Al Green - Sha La La (Make Me Happy) - 1974 - with Lyrics
Official Website:
www.algreenmusic.com/
Lyrics:
Sha la la la-- la la la
Oh baby
Sha la la la-- la la la
Oh baby
I've been gone so long I know what to do
Oh baby
That I know you don't know what I've been going through
Oh baby
'Cause you make me happy baby, so I can say
Sha la la la-- la la la
I love you
Sha la la la-- la la la
Thinkin' of you
I know you can tell what's on my mind
Oh baby
And I've been feeling this way for such a long time
Ya, baby
Aw, make me happy baby, aw, make me happy, I wanna say
I'm trying, this feeling just won't die
Oh
Sha la la la-- la la la
Make you cry
It's something that just gets down in your bones
Baby
And once I see you I can't leave your love alone
Ya, heh, baby
Aw, make me happy baby, aw, make me happy baby, let me sing
Sha la la la-- la la la
Oh baby
Sha la la la-- la la la
Oh baby...

My friends and I were making our own charts out in the 70s, and I'm proud to say that on November 16, 1974, Sha La La hit #1 on my list. It was on top for six weeks. And I was just a 17-year-old white kid from the suburbs!

The thing about Al Green is his uniqueness in combining elements of Philly Soul & deep southern rootsy Soul with elements of Gospel & seductive wailings, all in line with producer Willie Mitchell's style

When He Sings...'Awwww...Make Me Happy Baby. To Me, It Sounds Like He Was About Ready To Propose To Her e.g Like Ask For Her Hand In Marriage. Somehow, She Really Knew The 'Real Al' More Than Anyone Else -Ever Could. It's A Damn Shame, She Couldn't Wait Until The Morning To Discuss This. He May Had Already Gotten The Ring And Was Willing To Propose To Her -That Day Next. But, As We Know, That Next Day Never Came For Mary -Eh. SMDH!!

On this day in 1975 {April 5th} Al Green performed "Sha-La-La" on the Saturday-afternoon syndicated television program, 'Soul Train'... Five months earlier on November 17th, 1974 "Sha-La-La" peaked at #2* {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart and it spent eighteen weeks on the chart... Between 1967 and 2008 the Arkansas native had thirty-six records on the Hot R&B Singles chart, sixteen made the Top 10 with six reaching #1... His six #1 records were, "Let's Stay Together" {for 9 weeks 1972}, "I'm Still In Love With You" {for 2 weeks in 1972}, "You Ought To Be With Me" {for 1 week in 1972}, "Livin' For You" {for 1 week in 1973}, "L-O-V-E (Love)" {for 2 weeks in 1975} and "Full of Fire" {for 1 week in 1975}... The Reverend Albert Leornes Greene will celebrate his 73rd birthday in eight days on April 13th, 2019... R.I.P Don Cornelius {1936 - 2012}... * The two weeks that "Sha-La-La" was at #2 it was "Woman To Woman" by Shirley Brown and "I Feel A Song (In My Heart)" by Gladys Knight and the Pips that kept it out of the top spot...
