Welcome to a unique piece of history on the Seneca Creek in Campbell county, VA! Organ’s Mill was originally part of the small town of Theta, VA which existed from the mid 19th century to 1926 with an old mill built in the 1830s. Early on, Seneca Indians lived, hunted, and fished on this beautiful land with fish spawning on this property every spring. The dam has allowed for a pond to be created with the moving water of the creek being below the dam. A natural spring exists on the property, which had a new well system installed. Original owners, Mr. and Mrs. F.C. Woodall lived in what was once a general store and Brown’s School. Descendants of Captain Halcomb Organ, who refurbished the mill in 1948 named it Organ’s Mill. The mill had two water wheels, one operated the corn grinder and the other turned the wheat grinder. Burrstones imported from France, used in the foundation, are still on the site and relocated around the existing home. Later owners over the years turned portions of the old mill into a living space including blacksmith, Jock Dempsey (1960s) and Folk artist, George Carmichael. Paintings of the mill will remain at the site to honor the rich background of this land. The old mill finally collapsed due to powder post bees and a bad storm, but parts of the original building are showcased in the blacksmith shop turned into a home. There is stained glass, a bathroom cabinet built entirely from mill wood, various places in the home have doors and walls constructed from the mill as well.
Owners have lovingly converted the blacksmith shop into a lovely living space with two bedrooms, one bathroom, a large living space, two lofts, an additional room that could be converted into a second-floor full bathroom, or used as a nursery, or office. Major renovations have occurred between 2015-2021 to include majority of ceilings in tongue and groove pine. This property is absolutely beautiful. A rare find in today's market. SOLD 2021.
