A good ol afternoon solo kayak hunt. I kayaked out to a spot that holds a bunch of roosting ducks with the intentions of getting some that would be coming back home early. Kayaked through a super sketchy and shallow canal and in some spots I was pushing through mud and a couple inches of water. Hard work pays off! Water swatting might not look the coolest but if you don't see the birds fly in and they decoy, you did your job now put some food on your table. I swear you absolutely nailed them perfectly a couple times and they still kept going. Those divers have kevlar under their feathers. Nice hunt man!

I think there’s wild birds out around the Hamptons and out to Montauk. I could be wrong though. Occasionally some of these birds survive but I would say there’s not many that become wild around Otis Pike or Rocky Point.

@@RandyZimmerman-pp5wj he was a great captain. My first time on this boat was his last season and the mate at the time was Pete, who is now the captain great guy and knows a lot. He learned from one of the best.

Short and sweet answer: the band is very rare and it allows you to enter it into a website to see when and where the duck was hatched.
What dose the band mean?
My guess is that that bird is property of someone and is federally protected and most likely being tracked.
Its tracked by conservation, but yiu arent in trouble. U call it in and they can tell you about burd age, secues, etc
@@princepixel1266actually a banded duck is just one that’s been caught and it’s age, sex and other geographic information has been recorded for research purposes. To a hunter, this band is like a trophy of sorts. It’s not protected, lots of different types of water foul have them.
