Flight Sim History
มุมมอง 92หลายเดือนก่อน
Flight simulators have been instrumental in enhancing pilot flight training for many decades. Early on some pilots were on the fence about flight simulators effectiveness. There were some valid arguments because some of the early fight simulators were just a step or 2 beyond chair flying. Modern technology has been a game changer in the flight sim world. They closely mimic real world aircraft a...

Thanks Mike, I am truly happy that you are able to make use of my videos and really appreciate that fact that you have taken the time to express your satisfaction.
Amazing video, but your voice is so soothing it's hard not to get sleepy!
Guilty as charged. I agree that I'm no TikTok high energy influencer but I hope that I was able to effectively demonstrate how to configure your X-Plane Audio settings. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment m3Oliver.
Very beautiful flight! I love those avionics!
Yea, a lot of the older cockpits are being retrofitted with glass. Thanks for the post Russ.
Hmm, looks like 28L to me
You are absolutely correct Tim. Thanks for bringing this oversight to my attention.
It just updates US. ROUTES.
I update the FMS, but it want update foreign air routes. It is telling me INVALID ENTRY; how can I update the for foreign routes.
'Promo SM'
Thats alot of glass
Small aircraft avionics have caught up with airline avionics thanks to the smaller microchips.
@@PilotSavvy what type of 172 is it?
I was a passenger on this flight so I am not sure of the exact model 172 it is. I only know that it was a retrofitted early model Skyhawk. @@JabaMasonko
Switching fuel tanks right before takeoff is a TERRIBLE idea that will get you killed. If the fuel is contaminated, the engine won't quit immediately, it will take somewhere between 30-60s of high power operation, ie. you will get an engine failure at 300ft AGL. Instead of doing that, start and taxi on the less full tank, then for runup, switch to the other one, and don't touch it again before takeoff. This way, you will have tested both tanks and have the best chance of not dying.
Thank you for sharing your comments Barblargh. Point well taken. I will add it to my bag of Pilot Savvy safety Hacks. I am all in on aviation safety and have remained safe by following FAA and aircraft manufacturer mandates and recommendations plus any words of wisdom from Flight Instructors, other pilots such as yourself, and tricks that I have learned on my own over the years. Taking fuel samples from the wing tanks and the fuel sump before each flight and after each re-fueling has kept the engine running for me with no contamination regardless of what tank I select. My reasoning does not invalidate your reasoning. If fuel contamination is present, the worse time for it to manifest is while the aircraft is low and slow with not many options. Let me know what the Pilot’s Operating Handbook for your aircraft says about the before takeoff fuel tank selection. Keep the dirty side down.
@@PilotSavvy The POH usually just talks about selecting the fullest tank before start, and doesn't call for changing it for runup, which is not optimal, but still safer than right before takeoff. The technique I listed above comes from a CFI with some 50 years experience that checked me out in the DA40.
Hi Barblargh. Thanks for the follow-up comment. You can hardly go wrong taking advice from Flight instructors. It is always wise to consult with a Flight instructor for advice on flight procedures. I have been molded by Flight Instructors going back to my first introductory flight in 1980. The most important thing that I have learned is to know where to find the information on how to operate safely and to safely utilize all available resources. @@barblargh
Love the flight!
Thanks Russ.
Thanks for sharing your story. I love flying the DA50RG. It's my primary aircraft. I look forward to viewing more vids from you in the future.
Thank you for commenting. I have yet to fly a DA-50RG in real world flying. It took a while before I could even get a operaters manual. It still apear extreamely long. Let me know where I can find a simplified checklist that I can use for a quick startup, taxi and takeoff. The one that I extracted from the manual does the job but I have seen real world TH-cam recordings where the pilot has a checklist that fits on a 2 sided card.
Thats a super cool setup!!!
Thanks Darrell. It took some years to get to this point. I am glad that you like it. Thanks for leaving a comment. Subscribe for future post alerts.

Hello Abdullah_q8171, Thank you for reaching out. I am sorry to hear that you are encountering technical issues with your number pad functionality with your flight simulator. I am sure that we can resolve the issue. Make sure that number lock is on. I use the hat switch on my yoke to point to point to the view that I want then save it with the number pad or the full keyboard by holding down the control key on the full-size keyboard and pressing and releasing the desired number key while still holding down the control key then release it. Once the view is saved you can use either the number pad or the full keyboard to select the saved view. Occasionally USB devices may stop working momentarily. You may have encountered this issue with your mouse or full-size keyboard or other devices. On your PC desktop the solution may be to simply disconnect and re-connect the USB device. In the flight sim environment, you may need to re-start the simulator. I hope that this response is helpful. Let me know the results.

That avionics panel is awesome!
Yep. It looks like it was like a relatively easy retrofit that used the existing cutouts for the most part.

I like seeing the start of sequence. Thanks for sharing! I’ve never been in a diamond or a Cirrus, so this was cool.
Hi Russ, Thank you for your comment. I have never flown in a DA50 either but I believe that it was a DA40 that I flew in as a passenger some years ago. If you like this video showing an X-Plane quick start then you might like another video that I published some time ago showing a diamond DA50RG engine start using the checklist. Swift and safe landing 🛬
Hi Reynald, Thank you for leaving a comment. Sorry for the delay in responding. That was a great approach and landing especially with the surrounding bad weather in the area. After descending through the clouds, the view was awesome.
Nice flight and landing!
Thank you Russ. On the descent there was some high clouds but final aproach was spectacular. I love that aproach into San Diego International.
Very nice flight simulator! Absolutely amazing!
Thanks Russ. This sim is a constant work in progress. It started with a mouse and keyboard controlling Microsoft Flight Sim and now there is a physical button, knob, switch and lever that controlls pretty muh every aspect of a Diamond DA50 running on X-Plane 11.
I started of with MSFS 94 many years ago. Stayed with MS until 2018, which time i transition over to xplane. I went back to MS MSFS 2020 after they updated their system. Now Im waiting on MSFS2024.
I used pretty much all of the versions of microsoft up to and including MSFS X. I spent time and money to migrated to X-Plane after microsoft abandonded the flight sim community so I have not been in a rush to return. I do recognize that the new MSFS has made leaps and bounds compared to where I left off and they have some realy great graphics. I am in no way boycotting MSFS. I may re-visit it one day.
Have you flew the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 yet?
I did recently purchase MSFS and installed it on the same system that I use for X-Plane 11. It required more resources that my PC could muster so I discontinued using it.
Yeah, I just built a monster PC just for flightsim. All specs are max, and it runs like butter 🧈
And I bought the HP reverb G2 virtual reality headset. Love it..
Love your setup... I want yo get the setup as well

Your very welcome Joseph. Tell me about your experience with Pilot Edge.
Is that you talking with Pilots Edge?
Hi Joseph, My same apology applies to this comment as well in case my first reply did not go out as well last year. Yes I was talking to Pilot Edge. That is a great addition to augment the realism of your flight sim. I love talking to real controllers playing by real FAA ATC rules.
