Enumerator Training Video for Thrive / East Meets West's CLICR WASH Program in Cambodia
This video provides tips for administering stakeholder interviews, focus groups, and household surveys for Thrive and East Meets West's CLICR WASH program in Cambodia.
Below are the tips I discuss:
STAKEHOLDER INTERVIEWS
1) Prepare.
- Know the interview guide very well.
- Understand our research goals and the program background: what was done and why.
- We've prepared more questions than we think you'll need. So, use the extras (probing questions) if you need to.
- Be ready for various responses.
- Encourage them to talk!
2) Know whom you are interviewing.
- Are they in local government or national? What's their area of expertise? A little knowledge about them can help you direct the conversation to get the data we need.
- Make them feel comfortable. Develop rapport with them for a minute or two before diving in.
- Consider where you are interviewing them and create an open environment if possible.
3) Ask open-ended questions to encourage engagement.
- Avoid leading questions, which can bias the results, and don't ask closed or vague questions.
- Ask neutral questions to encourage honest responses.
4) Record audio and take notes if needed.
FOCUS GROUPS
All of the above tips also apply. But, you need to do even more!
1) Draw out the quiet ones!
- Be sure to ask people that are not talking as much got their input. Kind draw them out by encouraging them to talk.
2) Leave room for silence.
- When you ask a question, make sure everyone can hear you and wait for someone to respond. Let them fill the silence. This can take up to 10 seconds!
HOUSEHOLD SURVEYS
All of the above tips also apply.
1) Surveys can be very tiring to respondents because they are having to respond to many questions. They aren't just able to talk like in an interview. So, make sure that they are comfortable (fed, have something to drink, sitting in a comfortable place).
ALL DATA COLLECTION TOOLS
Practice!
- Read the data collection tools and ask any questions you have about what they are asking.
- Role play with your fellow enumerators: one interviews and the other responds as the interviewee, and then switch.

Bouncing our new baby boy, Paxton, while working from home sure has made me great at typing with one hand. But, my lack of bouncing consistency is not Paxton's favorite thing, and bouncing him limits my productivity. So, I built an automated baby bouncer out of a cheap microcontroller, a standard continuous servo and a USB battery pack.

One evening, we had two hawks attack our clutch of ten 7-week-old chickens. One didn't make it, one narrowly escaped, and the remaining eight made a run for it. Learning from our mistake of not protecting our chickens from hawks, we have installed overhead netting made from fishing line and spinning ...

KHOM is KHMER use by Thai language calling the ancient Khmer as KHOM. This Is Khmer dance Apsara I can understand clearly that is in Khmer language using in Khmer Sanskrit ! The lower outfit of Apsara dancer can be seen its image inscription on the stone engraving all along the mural of Angkor Watt.

I’m Kun Khmer living abroad my siblings and I performe this Khmer Apsaras dances since I was 8 years old , every morning we have to massage our hands and fingers, elbow lift and waist lift up with head firmly adjust with the neck stretches forward and bended it etc. to make it flexible until it’s bend half of it. The music it’s Khmer ancient music and Khmer vocal song in Sanskrit word I’ll can translate all but the parol was cutting short at the end. The word KHOM in ancient history meant KHMER ethnicity . Or Cambodian . The parol it’s in Khmer language use mostly by the royal highness grammar and not a bias language that we use in a daily basis . 🙏🥰🇰🇭🇰🇭🇺🇸🌎🙏

Khmer Empire was prosperious and powerful empire that expanded half to South East Asia mainland. Khmer Empire was a massive territories that’s cover the whole Cambodia , Laos , Thai , Vietnam in modern day. Since ancient histories Khmer Empire has been raided and sack by neighborings on a multiple occasion that cause the downfall of Khmer Empire in 1431. Khmer Empire outlying provinces were lost in size and diminished in dimension on a massive scale. That’s support the strong evidences that Khmer Empire has heavily influenced in Art Martial , classic dances, culture , clothing , music toward other neighbors countries .

The present Khmer dance was influenced by Thai Court Dance. In the ancient time, the Thais used to send traditional dance teachers to Cambodian Court to teach them because Cambodia had been under the Thai colonization over 400 years. The traditional Khmer Dance that you are showing in the VDO is not totally connected with the Khmer Empire that was collapsed in 15th Century. This is the research of a Japanese scholar named "Sasagawa Hideo". You can study the research and the truth will prevail. It's not Thai or Khmer scholars who might have bias or prejudice. It is a neutral, valuable and informative research for those who are interested in Khmer or Thai dance should read it. In Google, you can search "Post/colonial Discourses on the Cambodian Court Dance", and you will know the fact.

Carefully Read the real stories: a bit long and sad !!! The truth that the world should know:- Cambodia or known as Khamen is an unknown country. Since the Cambodia or Khamen had fallen colony to Siam for 434 years. Thus, Cambodia or Khamen arts and culture were completely devoured and destroyed by Siam at all. Therefore, the arts and culture of Cambodia or Khamen nowadays have been influenced by Siam directly. Cambodia or Khamen arts and culture now belongs to Siam which the Cambodia or Khamen had to accept under colonial rules. It means that Cambodia or Khamen has no longer its own arts and culture at all. Cambodian or Khamen attempts to distort historical facts. And trying to create various false and fake evidences and news to discredit Thailand with all sorts of dirty propaganda and deception. According to the Communist propaganda or with the dirty methods of the Khamen people. The fact that Cambodia or Khamen wants to snatch the number of tourists from Thailand. While Cambodia itself is notorious among tourists for deceit, thieve, fraud, robbery, pilfering, beggars and putrid garbage all over the country, making it a terror of tourists which Cambodia has never thought of solving these problems. But Cambodia or Khamen instead chooses to use dirty methods by accusing Thailand of stealing, copying art and culture from them which the Cambodian or Khamen always refer to those walls. If then, Italy has to take back all the Roman art from Europe as well. And the Cambodian or Khamen people themselves never searched for the truth to refute. When caught by Thai people, they will immediately escape and disappear. About copying, claiming, and deceiving please trust Cambodia or khamen. They are now the worldclass of liar, and deceiving to the world with fake news. They are also the best in claiming everything on earth, Sun, Moon, and the Galaxy with dirty and stupid methods. They, Cambodian or Khamen, are always proud of being insulted, looked down, and despised by people around the world without feeling ashamed. Go back to the past before the first Ong Bak movie was released. No one or even the Cambodian or Khamen knew and talked about kun khmer or bogator before. But now they claim that Muay Thai came from kun khmer or bokator. How is it possible ?!? While Muay Thai has been recorded in the history of Burma 345 years ago, a Thai boxer defeated 9 Burmese boxers until the Burmese king decided to turn his army back. Where is the record of kun khmer or bokator except refer to the walls !!! In Thailand we have never looked down on migrant workers or poorer people except some countries. We provide a grade A government hospital (Lerdsin Hospital, Silom, Bangkok) open for service and accept registration for Burmese workers and Burmese people only. Especially in which more than 94% of the patients are Burmese, although at the Thai Hospital for Thais people. Thanks for reading … Love from THAILAND

Here we go again. What a stupid thing to say . Khom? That’s some bullshit Thai say. Differentiating the Khom and the Khmer allows, for the Thais that do it, the ability to prop themselves higher than their neighbors by stripping them of prestigious parts of their history. Many thanks for this interesting video. So I am facing the same task of data collection on DCE and I want to use mobile phone for collecting but I am really confused how to through. And it will be helpful for me if could share the kind of design you made on collect device.

    • @JamesHarperUS
      @JamesHarperUS 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you for your comment, Adama! Yes, administering a DCE on a digital device is difficult. I have not found good software to do this, especially not free software. I like using mWater for surveying in general, and mWater does work well on most devices, mobile phones included. But, I have not used it for a DCE before. The only solution that I have been able to develop is to have the physical flipbook of DCE questions and then record those answers on the digital device. The questions asked on the flipbook are recorded along with the respondents' answers to those questions using a code that identifies the question. This process would work well with mWater. I also added a link in the video description to the field packet (flipbook) that we used in this study for your reference. You can see the question IDs in the bottom of each question. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1m0hsdDslSAFOph6iCHHvqw_RX3F__4qf?usp=sharing Please let me know if you have any more questions!
