fantastic video love seeing this type of ps3 content..
Thanks man. Although it was made quite in a hurry.
I have added names of the games now. Also the last one , Need for Speed carbon was running at a lower res, because it was launched through Minis launcher.
Yeah it's too bad that psp games are a huge hit and miss, it could've been a great way to play em!
Excellent video my good man many thanks for your time and effort from vini
Calyps0man please i have one question, can we Measure Cell B.E Tdp to bench like how much it's using from it's entirety, like we can measure tdp and then do fractioning to guess how much spes or ppe is using??? But mostly Important it's, is that possible? Is Possible easily to measure Cell Tdp with an Tool like an Voltage Measurer???
I have no idea. And it is sadly not something I am interested in. You should ask RIP-FELIX
@@calyps0man Alright Thank You Very Much for the reply Calyps0man.
I think RIP FELIX mentioned it in one of his videos, can't remember which one. They are long, but I'd still recommend watching them all if you haven't already - they are super entertaining AND technical. I think it was something like 130-150W, but can't say for sure - don't take this as an actual answer, but I'm sure it goes over 100W. What are your intentions exactly? I don't think there are tools for overclocking the CELL yet. Or do you want to build a custom heatsink for it?
@@vdochev na na na, as I said I just want to measure Cell Wattage, for Example Games that only use The Single PPE Core from Cell should consume way less power Wattage than the Game that uses SPUS or all Spus available for Devs like The Last of Us, Then Measuring the total Cpu Tdp would let us have some at least small notion of how much CPU is being used, for example I suspect GTA IV may only Use Cell PPE as on Pc an Single Core CPU can run the game too but at some 24fps low settings, and at time 2008, there was no really optimization on Spes Code to enable devs to really use the spes with any decent performance.......
@@vdochev yah thanks, I watch all FeliX Videos, he is genial, and yeah for the Original Cell made in 90nm I think is maybe 100 watts as Felix once told me, so you're right.
oh ive always been curious about this actually
PS3 is such a good console, esp. with Evilnat Firmware. I love the PS1/PS2 emulator on it.
Unfortunately, Tomb Raider for the PS1 doesn't run on it and Mickey's Wild Adventure crashes everything when you start a game, but other than that they are really good. And don't take this as a complaint, I'm incredibly grateful to have available what the modding community has achieved. I take my PS3 slim with me when I'm away from home because it's the ultimate entertainment machine and for the few hours I have to kill, it is irreplaceable.
@@vdochevwhy does tomb raider not run?
@@dm.3145 I'm afraid you'll have to ask someone who is a programmer and maintains this emulator. I think you can get the PSN versions, they are packaged with an emulator that should run them.
@@vdochev It runs for me from a disc, also I made a pkg file so it would use ps1_netemu. Which has a slightly better image quality on HDTV (less pixely)
Oi
Awesome, Have a Good Night.
In this exactly second I was starting to read an article on Rpcs3 page on how they emulate PS3 and then this notification from you just came.
Alright. Lol

excited for part 2
Link for the necessary files please?
I posted it on psx place forum. Look for the thread called "testing old software emulator". I used the nickname Deadend in there.
@@calyps0manI found the files, followed your guide and it seems like it works, kind of. So far from the games I tested only Crash Bandicoot WoC and Micro Machines 4 work, very buggy and slow, rest is just stuck on black screen. I still have to test my entire PS2 library but pretty cool experiment nonetheless.
nice
i use this emulator everyday
for what?
@@calyps0man mainly for testing, i also test gxemu
Extremely interesting stuff. Thanks Calculon
if we're comparing the image quality I would pick the cechc model over the others also would pick the netemu over cecha because it looks more clear and crispier.. but the real difference is going to be the framerate and more important is input delay. I have a CECHC03 model using gxemu and I am very happy except it has a 0.1ms input delay (using genuine Dualshock 3). I've tried netemu on my CECHC03 and the delay was even more around 0.5ms ! I believe cecha doesn't have delay same as PS2. Can you please confirm if you could see the input delay in these models? and how about cecha. thanks
cool
Forgotten? Not at all buddy
You certainly can save your data. There's an option in the XMB to create a virtual PS2 memory card.
No. The memory cards were created and assigned. This emulator cannot see them. Watch my latest vid, you can only use them with cobra dongle.
Love the niche content! You could easily skip the music while talking :)
I thought music adds a bit of atmosphere.
I like the music :/
Cool! I was donated one of those along wit ha Blackfin earlier in the month. Handy little video to jog my memory of how it was used back in the day!
Bro. Thx for this video! You did detect the network adapter from what I could see! It crashed… but it did see it ….Wow that’s big. They took it out of the netmeu, it can’t detect. Comes up with red screen. Thx again.
Alright, glad there was something useful there haha.
Same here
would it be possible to implement the disc support from softemu into netemu?
And the network adapter detection
Really only if somebody knowledgeable enough about cared enough, maybe then ?
(edit) yes net emu was patched out as Sony took out the remaining parts of the original emotion engine parts from the board on the 3000a models. Sony chose their ps2 classics emulation over the netemu & softemu & Hardemu on bc consoles & slim models. This is why on slims prior too the 3000a model you can still use ps2 discs, cause all cobra does is open up the compatibility lists to except those games to be played when the console is on a custom firmware with cobra enabled. You can trigger the ps2 netemu prior to launching a game with R1 and or L1 for softemu. If I remember correctly moderators on psx place have a thread on how to mess around with cobra & softemu & netemu.
I wonder what would it be like if Sony just stuck it out on ps3s and wait on the ps4 release I wonder if ps2 emulation would have gotten better and or patches released for many games through software updates and enabling more ps2 games via Ps2 Classics.
Did any1 managed to emulate Silent Hill Origins PS2 iso? I've got PS3 Slim and in part where you enter burning house at the bare beginning of the game screen goes white and you're literally playing game full blind
I think there is a config that fixes that.
@@calyps0man yeah, I got the config file, I tried different versions of it for different SHO isos and it doesn't seem to work
Are there several ps1 emulators for ps3 too or am I mistaken? 🤔
There are 2, and then there are a few others that barely work.
runs very well for what it is
a small correction also - CECHE was not only released as MSG package but also Motorstorm bundle.
does MGS3 PS2 Ver runs on CECHE? also, does online play work on ps2_gxemu?
@@V3ditata MSG3 is supposedly glitchy on CECHE and CECHC. I have not tested online support on gxemu but the answer is in the first minute.
Awesome video. I love emulator retrospectives (been looking into old builds of Virtual Game Station in fact), so this is right up my alley.
there might be one more vid coming up. And then Im done with the softemu. I always feel like im obsessively doing these and probably come across as an autistic fool :D
can you share devwikipage link pls
make a video about the secret menu of the ps2 classic and what its functions do, I haven't seen anyone commenting on it so far
I'll keep it in mind.
When you realize that on the PS3 you can play every GTA game in the main series ever released (and probably the spin offs), including GTA V, which is the last game currently. (GTA VI is not out yet).
Yea, pretty neat.
With a modded PS3, you can play almost every GTA game. GTA 5, GTA 4, TBOGT, LTAD, GTA CTW (PSP), from PS2, GTA SA, VCS, VC, LCS, III, GTA Advance (GBA), and from PS1, GTA 2, London 1969, GTA 1. The only GTA you can't play is London 1961 (in case someone care about it) which was released only for PC.
I'd highly recommend an early ps3 for that though. I haven't tried all of them, but LCS ran pretty poorly under netemu for me even though it's an official PS2 Classic. It ran fine on my CECHC on gxemu until it died.
@@SterkeYerke5555 Sorry to hear that. I've ran only the main games - GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas and they ran fine without any issues. Almost like on a real PS2. I did test them for half an hour, though, I have not played them 100% on the PS3.
@@vdochev LCS started lagging for me right after the first cutscene as soon as I left Salvatore's yard. You'll notice soon enough ;). VCS didn't run all that brilliantly either, it's definitely got some annoying framedrops, but it wasn't as bad as LCS.
We can probably all agree to that softemu is an unfinished laggy piece of crap 😂
Wow you are very late to the ps3 scene
This is just for fun. Not to resurrect the scene.
@@calyps0man 'Sony's Forgotten PS2 Software?? Emulator on PS3' you sure about that
@@BMPK If anybody remembers it then good for them.
Good job man, thank you!
CECHC looks better of the BC ones, but unfortunately the image is stretched. You can especially see it when comparing it to CECHA and how wide the cars look in CECHC. Unfortunate thing is that the CECHC seems to remove the overscan borders from the sides but not from the bottom and top. Same thing happens with netemu. If you have full BC PS3, I would recommend and try to use it without upscaling as it might look a bit better. If your TV scaler is good, it should do better job than PS3 upscaling and it does so on my TV.
@@aarraa9671 you have a good point. But cechc also provides a crisper and more detailed look. It is much less blurry than others.
you are right the aspect ratio not right its a shame as the cechc looks noticeably sharper and crisp than the others.
I have CECHC04, can i use opl on it? If yes, how? Also can you use gx emu on a full backwards compatible model? The one that also has the emotion engine
@@denis-florian_0.57 there was one person who claimed he could run it. But I could not . And I dont think you can use gxemu on cecha because the way gs chip is wired is different. On cechc connections go to gs chip and then to rsx. But on cecha it is rsx first and then to gs. I am not 100% sure but I dount it would be possible to reprogram the emulator without source code.
@@calyps0man so the short answer is no, gxemu is not compatible with cecha. Thanks for clarifying
@@calyps0man how is the speed of USB loading compared to a real PS2 console? Since PS2 has 1.1 USBs while PS3 is 2.0
@@V3ditata I think it was quite slow. But I only tried MX4ISO or whats it called on ps2.
You make very good content, hopefully you will rise soon
Thanks man, appreciate it.
@0:22, you mentioned ps2_emu supports HDD in some PS2 games. Can you provide some examples? I’m curious which PS2 games require an HDD to run. The only game I know is Final Fantasy XI which is a MMORPG which requires installing the latest updates to run.
@@hardwarerepair200 i will check and reply
I am not sure if links can be visible here, but there are a few officially supported games. Nobunaga's Ambition Online and Expansion Packs Final Fantasy XI (disc1=SCUS97266 disc2=SCUS97269)and Expansion Discs SOCOM II: U.S. NAVY SEALs and Related discs included with OPM Issue 87, OPM Issue 88, OPM Issue 89, OPM Issue 90 SOCOM 3: U.S. NAVY SEALs SOCOM: U.S. NAVY SEALs Combined Assault Front Mission Online
I prefer netemu for its nostalgic, PS2-like graphics. Other emulators are sharper, but I like the softer look. Softemu seems laggier overall. Is it just in this game? It might explain why it was never released. Personally, I think one potential use for softemu is to recognize PS2 discs on newer models of PS3s, rip them into ISOs, and then play them with netemu. Thank you for making this video! Very informative.
@@hardwarerepair200 yes, softemu is very laggy in most games.
I think multiman should be able to rip a ps2 disc to an iso?
@@SterkeYerke5555 actually yeah, multiman can already do that. There isnt much anyone can do with softemu other than test some games and see how badly they run for lulz.
Thanks for the explanations, great content!
is it just me or does vice city look like someone smeared vaseline all over it?
In my opinion, most PS2 games had this ‘vaseline effect’ on original hardware and CRT TVs. Modern emulators like PCSX2 make the graphics too sharp and pixelated, but I might be wrong.
It might be part of the "trails" effect, which you can disable in Vice City's settings. Other part might come from the upscaling. If your TV has good scaler, I would recommend to use the CECHA without upscaling.
It's not just you. That's the early 2000s era of BLOOM, when we were just discovering how to "emulate" lighting. Many games used it excessively to the point of everything on the screen shines. Objects that should reflect light look like they emit light. It looks awful. Some games like Half-Life 2 did it right, though, but others make your eyes hurt. On VC, you can mitigate this effect by turning off trails, but to little extend. It is a PS2 game after all, so low-res blurry textures just come with it, you just have to accept it.
Vice City in PS2 has the blurry effect with trails as it did in GTA3. The PC port doesnt have it
That’s the emotion engine, baby.
Excellent video! I used to have a CECH-A00 myself, but it died 2 years ago. I was not aware that you could use OPL on a backwards compatible PS3. I’ve used OPL before on my PS2 in the past, but I’m curious what would you use OPL on PS3 for? Is there any benefit over the PS2?
As you saw in the video, you can enable 480p or even 1080i upscaling with it. And also you could add game patches. There's not really other good reason to use it over Webman, as you unfortunately can't use the PS2 games which you have in the HDD for Webman, so you must use USB or network share. There's not really benefits with PS3 over PS2 on OPL other than PS3 has digital image (HDMI).
Nice! It’s a shame not every game works 😎
Excellent video many thanks for your time and effort
I actually put HEN on my PS3 slim. I bought it thinking backwards compatibility was built in with PS2 games but was disappointed until I went with HEN. It ran Silent Hill 2 pretty well and I beat the game from start to finish but the texture and model issues were hilarious. James would keep doing the stanky leg. His leg would just randomly start going all over the place at very funny times. There were some slow spots but it was still very impressive to run the game.
I’ve always wished NETEMU had disc recognition, but sony scrapped it for buying our games a second time…..
