I watched a lot of YTP back in the day, so I suppose those video unintentionally influenced me. I think the review part of it (and commentary side of these videos) was sort of inspired by Regular Car Reviews. It’s funny how sometimes you don’t even realize some of the things that influenced you until you give it some thought

@@MordecaiGTR I used to make YTP! I doubt it, but maybe you've watched one of mine?? Nahhh, unless? 😳It doesn't matter now since they were all taken down, but I'd consider making some again for old times sake. One of these days someone's gonna watch your videos and inadvertently copy your style if you keep it up! That's how movies are born, they were just ideas changed until it became it's own thing. Hell Fast and Furious I've heard be described as Point Break but with with street racing, and Point Break probably has something else inspiring it. I think it's interesting stuff.

@@Enchilada750 Not sure if I did considering there’s so many out there lol. But unfortunately, a lot of them got taken down due to copyright. Oh well. The original Point Break is a classic, but I also consider the first Fast and Furious movie to also be great movie too. Even if it is similar, it still felt like its own movie. Nowadays, it feels difficult to find something that feels new. I guess it’s become more difficult to come up with something new because of all the media out there, and some are just simply copying what’s popular.

@@MordecaiGTR They're still out there, you just have to look for them. I think the reason it seems like movies are all samey is because those are the ones making all the money. There's a ton of movies that are slept on that we don't realize. I remember when John Wick wasn't a household name, it was just another action movie. Now it is it's own thing that other action movies strive to be. Hardcore Henry was the first and last movie I've seen of it's type. I had a blast watching it but I still remember it being criticized since first person action has been done on TH-cam for so many years before then, but who cares? It's awesome! Baby Driver came and went just like that, but it did leave a cultural impact despite not making 100 sequels! One thing that is sad to me is the state of modern gaming. Prioritizing good graphics over actual gameplay. I miss the days when games actually looked like games and didn't all decide to try to become simulators. Edit: Another anecdote I'd like to make is that maybe it's not just nowadays media is starting to look all the same but it's always been that way. For example right now everyone is into superhero movies, but back in the 50's and 60's it was western movies.

I’m jealous. I haven’t been to Japan since 2019, a year before I got into anime. I’m dying to go back. Anyway, good luck finding some Choro Qs! Gotta say, I’ve gotten a little carried away with Choro Qs recently. Let’s just say the next video may be pretty expensive…

@@MordecaiGTR I had a feeling since looking at a handful of your cardboard city videos, it had 0 comments on a lot of them. I'm glad you left them up though otherwise I would've never discovered them. I have an unhealthy habit of deleting videos that don't get attention so I'm practically living vicariously through your videos as if I had never deleted mine. Almost 13 years of my digital history just gone. Granted, I still have some scraps from over the years, but reuploading them just wouldn't be the same as if I had left them up, and they're not good enough to reupload as they were a product of their time and isn't representative of what I am capable of now. Anyways sorry for the essay, this just brought back a lot of good and bad memories and I totally found your channel through your most recent manga video you made and I subscribed.

@@Enchilada750 no need to apologize. I appreciate it when people are honest about things like that. I won’t lie, a lot of my Cardboard City videos definitely could’ve used a lot of improvement, and though they may not be my best works, they’re still a part of my channel’s history. Without those videos, I may not be making the kind of content I’m making today. Those videos sort of allowed me to improve upon my skills over the years. I already kind of mentioned this in my “Cardboard Chaos” series, but I’m not sure if you saw those. I honestly didn’t have to make those, but I wanted to give Cardboard City a proper send off, instead of abandoning it. Kind of like I did with this series. The Kanojo no Carrera video has definitely brought in the sort of audience I’ve been looking for, but I can tell most of them watch my latest videos. To be honest, I prefer this anyway because the channel has shifted away from the Cardboard City universe, and I’ve been pretty happy with the videos I’ve been putting out recently. But it’s always nice to occasionally get a comment from someone who goes through the history of my channel. Although there are some videos that are no longer visible, for the most part, I think you still get a good idea of what the channel was like before the shift to more “Japanese-related” content Also thanks for the sub!!

@@MordecaiGTR I'm surprised I didn't find your cardboard city content earlier because back round the time those were being made, I was dabbling in stop motion animation myself and I'd watch any stop motion videos I could find similar to my interests. The irony is that I found your channel anyways since I've recently been getting into japanese stuff mainly cars, girls, and gun related animes and mangas and your video just happened to pop up in my recommended. By the way, have you seen or read Gunsmith Cats? There's a potential video idea right there. It's a short lived OVA (the manga lasted longer though) which is the spiritual successor to Riding Bean an even shorter lived OVA. It's relatively obscure, compared to Initial D at least, but it's very enjoyable if you don't mind the short run time (I still wish they'd make more).

@@Enchilada750 I’m not really surprised you never found them. The TH-cam algorithm has been rarely kind to me during my time on TH-cam. Usually when I’ve had a video do well, it’s would always come as a surprise to me. Cardboard City never really caught on, which is partially why I shut the whole thing down. I actually had a few people recommend me to watch Gunsmith Cats. It was decent. Funny enough, shortly after I watched it, a translator joined the Kanojo no Carrera discord server (the one I mentioned in the video) and showed that he actually worked on translations for that series. I would make more “video essays” or videos similar to “Cardboard Chaos” and the Kanojo vid, but I’ve always preferred making stop motion stuff. The content on this channel is quite varied, and it all just kind of depends on what I feel like making. I’ve always focused on making whatever I wanted because attempting to please everyone would just be too difficult. Not saying I’ll never make another video like the Kanojo one, but for the time being, I don’t have any plans, unless I find something that I think is worth sharing and expressing my opinion. I know that may come off as being a bit selfish, but I really am grateful to anyone who watches my videos.

@@neemojenkins881 right now, we’ve got one new chapter up, and we’re working on getting the last chapter of volume 3 translated. Don’t want to give any spoilers, but I recall there being a particular spicy chapter in volume 7 lol

Not too sure. I have yet to get around to reading it, so I don’t have much of an opinion on it yet. The only reason I made this one was because I sincerely enjoyed it and wanted to give it more attention, as well as promote the Mangadex project.

@@MordecaiGTR countach is pretty good as well as the main character is just an average guy who wins a lamborgini and gets up to adventures in it he isn’t extremely skilled or strong just a guy with a countach

LOL I stumbled across this hidden gem back in October last year. I’ve loved it ever since. I was contemplating on whether or not I should make a video about it for a while, plus I had some other projects I wanted to work on. After some time, I figured I might as well try to see if I could spread word about it, and somehow, the algorithm decided to be kind to me for once and promoted it. Thanks to viewers like you, this manga will be coming back to Mangadex! I managed to get the attention of the current translator, as well as a few other talented people who joined the discord server, and we are currently working on getting the final two chapters of volume 3 translated! The project was resurrected about a week ago, so they’ve just gotten started, but hopefully once we get things going, we can start getting more chapters out!

@@youpi403 so far, we’ve got one new chapter out, and another one on the way. Things may be a little slow, but everyone involved in the project seems passionate and willing to help. It’s pretty awesome
