Hello !I have a few V Discs at home which I've tried to play on an HMV 101 gramophone. But the needle digs into the disc and it stops. Yet the system seems to be the same as on your US Army record player. Am I missing something?

I got here after rewatching the Techmoan video about a (rather apalling) reproduction of the Mikiphone. After the horribly scratching coming out of that one it is astounding to hear how nicely the original item works and how good the sound quality is.

Is that a vertical cut record?

Interesting soundbox on this "hatbox" machine that was even made post-war - probably beats any of the rather cheap Waters-Conley machines that appeared under various names in the US [even RCA Victor as their portable, from around 1935-1942]
