Cub Cadet LT1046 Drive Belt quick replacement MTD Kohler tractor
Shortcuts to replace drive belt with seized drive pulley.
Quick way to lock the flywheel to remove the PTO nut, as well as easy way to prop the engine up to remove the belt.
Problem is, no space to access the belt, but the seized pulley prevents removal. Saw many other methods, but this seems quicker and easier. YMMV :)
Happy to hear other suggestions, but this method helped me tons (once I finally figured it out after *way* too long fighting it in the heat the night before.) Hope it helps others save some time for more enjoyable pursuits!
Tools required:
1/2" socket wrench (most bolts on the tractor)
1/2' box wrench (necessary for the hidden engine bolt under steering)
Screwdriver
Prybar
New belt
Time:
About 1/2 hr
Note- I did crack one fan blade while re-torquing the PTO nut. Should have looked more carefully to make sure the lock on the flywheel was direct instead of allowing the flywheel to shift. Lesson learned.

Watching movies w/my girls, this assessment cracked me up, had to do an edit. Enjoy!
Thank you! I thought I was crazy to think I had to raise the engine for a simple belt change. Thank you!
Could you possibly make this any more difficult!? Watch TH-cam and learn to do it correctly !
Thx man, made a big diff!!!
Glad it helped!!!
I’m in the midst of doing that same job when I get home today and I will be cutting those tabs off with a grinding wheel a cut off wheel along with every other tab on the mower
Sounds like a great time saver!
Cub. Is a POS had a 3025 ? Nothing but trouble Ended up selling it for junk
Im hoping you still check the comments on this. My Cub Cadet LT1046 broke my first drive belt, and I don't have a clue. I saw this video and I'm thinkin'...do you mean by taking the 4 engine bolts out and prying up on the engine, you can alleviate pulling the large nut off? That freeing the engine, then prying up on it, will give you the room to get the belt on the pulley? Please tell it's true, as with inflation cutting into my SS and savings, I can't afford to hire someone to fix it for me! TYIA!
SO SORRY for the delay, didn't know folks had commented. Hope you worked it out. This is mostly a tip for getting the belt onto a seized drive pully w/o messing with the retention tabs.
I put a pipe wrench on the shaft and move it until it hits the tire to hold it. Worked great
Thanks, I'll have to try that!
