A nonbinary amateur translator and cosplayer having a bit of fun with the videos thing, from replaying video games I have fond memories of to trying out some that are new to me. Game selection is kind of all over the place, but I always seem to keep coming back to SNES Zelda.
Learning as I go along and hopefully improving at commentary and editing, plus it seems to be working as vocal practice. And sometimes off-the-cuff translation, depending on the game.
I'm going to be trying to stick to a schedule (times in US eastern):
Monday/Thursday 11:45 am - Main playthrough series (currently Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest).
Saturday mid to late morning - Streaming something possibly longer, or a posting a one-off sort of video (currently taking a long trip through the Magical Bringer Korona 2 bonus jRPG だんだんダンジョン大冒険)

FF: Mystic Quest - 18 - Help, the mountain's tiny!
First, a few more battlefields. Nothing of interest there, but I'm pretty sure that's the last of them, so we'll never have to worry about clearing out any more.
Then on to Windia, where the wind is out of control, the classic chocobo makes a cameo in wind vane form, and we find out about someone named Norma who's missing.
But first we can address that, we need to head to Mount Gale and do something about that wind. And the mountain is tiny! As dungeon areas go, anyway. It all fits on one submap, and there's nothing of interest there besides a helmet upgrade and the boss itself.
Speaking of which, let's keep in mind that if you're going to experiment with using healing on a boss, the best time to do that is BEFORE piling on damage!
Still doesn't make sense lorewise for the guy carrying his head under his arm to not be undead, but I suppose it makes sense from a gameplay perspective that you can't just healbomb a boss to death this far into the game. Especially since the Cure spell seems to scale up with max HP.

FF: Mystic Quest - 17 - Help, the tree's walking!
มุมมอง 179 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
More exploring and backtracking through the big giant tree, culminating in a boss that's more annoying for its status effects than anything else. Which we counter by summoning meteor storms. Inside the tree. Somehow. It's magic; don't ask questions. Following that, one of the sillier scenes in the game. The tree did what now? And was it really a good idea to stand out on an exposed branch while...

The tree tries to be interesting, and it succeeds to a certain extent, but too many of the dropdown vines are entirely pointless, and do the mushrooms really have to grow back every time you leave the screen? There's also a bit of lost footage around the 7 minute mark where I stopped the recording during a battle and forgot to restart it afterward. Oops! Don't worry, you didn't miss much, just ...

In which the protagonist offends a tree, Spencer basically gives up on his tunnel scheme, Tristam runs off as abruptly as he showed up (though at least he leaves us the Dragon Claw), and Phoebe handles explosives without care before also disappearing on us. It's often easier to remember how something made you feel than the details of what happened. Overcoming the Dualhead Hydra for the first time was one of those events for me. Whether it was just the Life spell I missed or also the Moon Helm I missed when going through the area, I just. Could not. Beat it! So checking the manual (I assume) to realize I needed to explore the Lava Dome more thoroug...

Convection shmonvection strikes again, but we do have some creative layouts around here, with the upper and lower levels and the jumping across gaps. It would be nice if the indoor areas used more of the sort of rounded tiles that give the outdoor area a more natural look, though. Those sharp 90-degree angles everywhere aren't the best aesthetic, particularly for what's presumably meant to be n...

Up the Volcano and down into the Lava Dome! The area's aren't connected in any usable way, but it's neat that they conceptually link directly to each other. The Mask and the earlier Mirror both seem to be entirely optional items that merely provide a small amount of quality of life. And both entirely useless once you leave the dungeon where you find them. Anyway, status effects continue to be a...

The rest of the Mine goes by without major incident (except for the size of that boulder making absolutely no sense), and the boss doesn't even last long enough to try out a Fire spell on it to check if it resists that. Then, after a stop by Fireburg, a newly-opened shrine where the old man is particularly useless, and (sigh) another battlefield, it's on to the Volcano, where the music rocks ha...
FF: Mystic Quest - 10 - Help, too many battlefields!
มุมมอง 3628 วันที่ผ่านมา
It almost feels like the game's trying to make up for the lack of random encounters by dumping a ton of battles on you all at once. Though battlefields are, technically, optional. But if you skip them, you miss out on some equipment, magic, and even special items, like the Exit and Thunder spells and Gemini Crest this session. Of course, you could always aim for those and avoid the others if yo...
FF: Mystic Quest - 09 - Help, pointless double golem!
มุมมอง 41หลายเดือนก่อน
Yeah, I don't really understand the point of having the golem show up in the basement long enough to abruptly taunt you and disappear, especially since you can just ignore it and it makes no difference if you do. It would make more sense if any taunting had been established already, but no. Ice golems melt quite nicely, though! And with the golem melted and the crystal rescued, the rest of the ...

Huh, I'd forgotten about climbing up the pyramid just to fall down through the middle to reach the basement. That's good creative level design, come to think of it. And the floors do indeed seem to get smaller the further up you go, as you'd expect from the geometry of the structure. The pyramid also hides several useful upgrades, specifically the Noble Armor with water resistance and poison im...

Cool playthrough. Looks like my type of simple ALTTP romhack
To make the tiny-mountain thing worse, it's called Mountain _Range_ of Whirlwinds in Japan. :P BTW, fun fact: According to the Final Fantasy Wiki, Otto is this game's Cid - his full name is Otto Cid Bekenstein. With regards to Dullahan not being undead, he could be intended to be a suit of animated armor, or even one of the Fair Folk.
Cool
Just isn't the same without the Megazeux music, but I respect the author for using original tunes
3:00 Mario games used coins to indicate when to take a leap of faith, I think that's one way to make a blind jump acceptable. But yeah, jumps with no telegraphing at all are super mean
Deathcliff Secret feels like a prototype for a later Zaratustra game, Eversion.
I hadn't made the connection, but yes, there's a definite similarity.
_And who spelled out a message in the forest below?_ Considering that the message calls Benjamin "kid," I'm guessing that it's probably Tristam.
4:09 yeah, this song is from Caverns of Zeux. A real banger
random but thanks for the ff6 text dump :)
4:50 that has got to be a reference to hamsterdance, a very early internet meme
I appreciate the fast-forward around the 6 minute mark
"Branching out"… pun intended?
I... think that was accidental?
@@erifellen Fair enough.
Did anyone else notice the typo at around 10:50?
I hadn't, but now that you mention it...
Yes. They don't have enough characters. The Minotaur that you kill in Level Forest is literally running around as a Zombie.
Damn, I haven't seen this game in ages. I bought this with my yard cutting money when I was 17 just because it had Final Fantasy in the title and I was/still am a RPG addict. This installment was very strange though, easier than the others, definitely different. About like that initial take on Golden Axe on the Sega Master System, how it looked nearly identical to the first Zelda game. Heh enough rambling by the old man, great flashback here.
That's fairly similar to how I stumbled across it. The game store had some discounted titles, I saw "Final Fantasy", I'd heard good things about that, so I figured I'd give it a try.
Iflyte is probably meant to be Ifrit/Efreet, but its Japanese name is Cyclops.
I love the sheer redundant redundancy of "Hypno-Sleep". :) Attach was Cling in Japanese, for what it's worth.
My guess as to why the Snow Crab isn't weak to fire is that the "snow" part and the "crab" part cancel each other out, kind of like how Ice/Water Pokémon take neutral damage from fire.
Sparna is a mistranslation of Suparna, another name for Garuda.
With regards to the name "Flamerus Rex"… the Japanese name is Framesaurus, which makes a bit more sense, seeing as a skeleton could be considered a frame of sorts.
Okay, yeah, I can kind of see it.
If you bite it and you die, it's poisonous. If it bites you and you die, it's venomous.
And if it yells "Surprise!" and you spin around and fall over... I dunno, it's probably a gas or magic or something. Or maybe a psychic attack?
I love the fact that "herd" is misspelled in the manual. BTW, does anyone else headcanon the Focus Tower as being somehow connected to the Tower from Final Fantasy Legend/Makai Toushi SaGa?
I get stuck in the boss room. it auto throws me into the room.
If it's a maze with only one path, then it's a labyrinth.
Excellent tutorial. Skipping most of this dungeon in a rando feel sooo good.
For me, it's Dragon Warrior for I, II, III, IV, VII, Monsters, and Monsters II, and Dragon Quest for all the others.
ooooooooooooooo haiiiii :3
oh oh can i have a game suggestion? do you know the game adventure called D&D? maybe check out those goldies maybeh 030 who knowsies
hmmm??? all of a sudden you are recommended to me! ohwell lets see!
I'm not 100% positive, but I think that the time portal effect is from Bahamut Lagoon. If nothing else, I've definitely seen it somewhere before…
8:15 Geebus I don't remember this AT ALL! But I get the references... what the heck did I submit :D Mike ME? LOL Yeah that font they chose is bad for small letters.
It's not the most "puzzle" puzzle, but I found it amusing, at least.
12:29 Well, not as bad as my entry in BQ2, but I see where it would have been annoying with those crosses not stacking; probably used a trigger instead of countdown timer. CD-Man was a Pac-Man clone, and the Ankhs are from Rise of the Triad, a game I played a lot in the DOS days.
Come to think of it, I'm not sure I ever played Rise of the Triad. Or Heretic and Hexen, for that matter.
22:30 (Mikemc) Da heck? I don't remember making that level at all! But that was so long ago. My god is it a horrible area.. Looks like I was using a hidden object puzzle and referencing Quake 2. I think the piano is a Myst reference except the generators in Myst need 56 or 57 volts, not 55.
Befiddle Quest! OMG I haven't heard that name if forever. I have an area submission in one of them based off a DOS game called CD-Man but instead of pellets I had the player picking up Ankhs from Rise of the Triad
To save travel time, I just boosted around with the hyperdrive and attacked every ship, friend or foe, after their mission
I did pretty much the opposite, avoiding hyperdrive (and shields most of the time) to save up energy... and ended up with way more than I could actually use. Better to spend it, honestly.
You're correct about the music being from Illusion of Gaia - specifically, it's from the Pyramid, and happens to be my personal second-favorite dungeon music from said game.
There's a TH-cam video called "rm2k3 another portal" on my channel which specifically shows how to get through this maze (and not much more), which I guess truly was a bit more on the "too difficult" side. There's not much more left after this. It's a little too subtle, but if you'd have paid close attention to the other side of the closed door earlier from the 5 box puzzle section, you'd see there are two computer monitors there, each which get lit by activating the respective corresponding monitor at the end of the maze and the ice puzzle.
I think of Central Europe too when it comes to watches, specifically Switzerland.
Google agrees, and it puts China ahead of Russia for watchmaking, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This is an amazing find, oh my gosh?! Maybe one day there'll be a bit more user-friendly level editor thanks to this. Also, I remember the "S" Shield icon from when I played as a kid. I had to look it up again just now, but found (on gamefaqs) that if you press and/or hold X, apparently, Jill's health will max, you'll get the invincibility shield, and a key! :)
Actually, after running across Neuro-sama singing it (th-cam.com/video/FuRdEtg2VbM/w-d-xo.html), I'm wondering it maybe the chichipappachipappa around 7:45 was intended to be a jumbled version of "chipi-chipi, chapa-chapa" from the song Dubidubidu by Christell...? The song's from 2003 and the game's from 2006, so it's possible.
Well you didn't first try the entire boss but you did first try the boss rush and that's seemingly the toughest part for most people, so congrats!
Yeah, I'm kind of surprised that part went so well.
Congrats on beating pizza face! Cant wait for the next video
Thank you very much for posting this video about Atari Coco Notes.
Bizarre that the first time you parried the arrow it didn't count toward the achievement but I assume it's because, when you parry something you get a hitbox around your character which kills normal enemies; it could be that your hitbox is what killed the goblin first rather than the arrow you parried.
I'm pretty sure that's what happened, though it was certainly confusing at the time.
No way is 2024 and You still havent beated Pizza Tower 💀
Bro i started Playing Pizza Tower in 2024 too, I don't think you have to make a problem here about that.
This means war… And I am going to lose D:
First one agen
So how the hell do you parry and hit the little yellow circles with your sword?? If it's that you have to hit parry and at the same time swing your sword well that's ridiculous considering I am using a ps5 controller and that would mean I have to hit circle and Square at the same time. Which is the most awkward and unrealistic crap ever. So upset and I'm not even 30 minutes in.
It's the heal/parry button by itself, but there's a timing to it that can be tricky. Try switching the Parry Input Type under Controls in Settings. I eventually found that using Tap Heal to Parry (Instant) instead of Tap Heal to Parry (Tap) made it feel a lot more natural for me. It also has Crouch+Attack options that I never tried out and might work better for you.
@erifellen you are AMAZING!!! this worked and I didn't rage quit not once in the 4 hours I've played since. Thank you so so much!!
Hi
Hi
best mod ever made by far
It's worth noting that if you wanna get all the achievements for this game (which is pretty hard to do), quite a few actually require the usage of the Lap 2 pizza thingy. Also, you actually did an upwards piledriver at 15:41!
