A drive through Downham
Thursday, 16 January 2025. A drive from Beckenham Hill Road via Downham to Dunkery Rd, Mottingham. Though I expect most people would skip the video, there are some that will enjoy the trip down memory lane. Apologies for the quality as the camera was focusing more on the dirt on my windscreen then the view!

The original film was recorded on an old Canon digital video recorder, and as all of the scenes were all shot at night, the original video did have a lot of grain. Looked at the video again, felt a bit teary this time, realised how time has flown all too quick, lots of memories of downham, lived there from 49 - 61 went to downderry infants and left churchdown at 15 to go to work, visited downham and bromley about 3yrs ago, was sad to see all the take aways etc; but i know they are everywhere now. I shouldn,t have expected things to be the same......at least i can keep my memories of happy days gone by. I live in Leicestershire now with plenty of countryside within a couple of miles, thanks again for the nice clear videos and music.

So, I never really got away from the area and always passing through. Whereabouts do you live today? 1980, aged eighteen, having done a spell stripping at Raymond's Revue Bar, Candy Davis ( the future Miss Belfridge in Are You Being Served, and much later the award winning thriller writer Mo Hayder ) joined the pub/ stag show/ rugby club stripper circuit in London and the immediate surrounding counties, notably Essex. In 1982, while on a short break in America, aged twenty, she entered and won the 1982 Miss Nude USA beauty pageant. If you search online ( not on TH-cam ) you'll easily find footage of her winning performance. Dancing totally nude, except for a pair of candy red stillettos, she looks utter stunning. Her fellow competitors were all mainly strippers/adult entertainers, yet Candy outshines them all with her performance. Quite obviously Raymond's Revue Bar plus her time stripping on the pub/stag show circuit were wonderful training.

Some pubs in Southend-on-Sea in the 1980s had regular Friday strippers, sometimes two girls all for the price of a beer and a £1 coin into a pint pot that the girls went round for a collection before her dance, happy days, and don't even get me started on the Upminster Rugby Club where they would f**k guys from the audience onstage at stag nights.
