We had colored Chicks one year at Easter. Then they said it was cruel, so that practice was stopped. We lived on the edge of a housing development. As these chickens grew they had free range. I don't remember where they slept, probably in a bush in the yard. Later we had to give them to a farmer. They would chase the kids on bikes down the street. Whenever we heard screaming we knew the race was on. The farmer promised us they would be kind to them. The next time we went over to see them they were in their freezer. But, I loved those chickens. Mine was Purple!
