As you can see in the video, the string is held out of the nut's groove and lifts up from the bridge from time to time: this is of fundamental importance not only with F reds but also with gut strings, achieving the following advantages:
1) you have a perfect balance of tension upstream and downstream of the bridge and nut
2) friction points are almost eliminated, eliminating all causes of potential string breakage
3) the bridge is prevented from bending forward during tuning, dragged by the string
4) pre- and post-stretching are indispensable in order to have the string immediately ready and stable within seconds: perform it exactly as seen in the video.

Magnus Sjöquist presents Aquila Flat Spirals for UBass, short-scale bass, and acoustic bass. These strings are truly innovative for at least two reasons. Firstly, they do not use metals like steel or nickel, that are stiff, but instead they use copper that is softer and has higher density and result in richer acoustic performance. In fact higher the density, better the sound. Secondly, these st...

How to install the Aquila Gut Strings on a classical guitar

Installing gut strings in a classical guitar is not as easy as one might think: gut strings are very soft, tend to flatten over the nut (and are also expensive). The rules are as follows: 1) if possible, change the type of nut: most current ones do not fit and cut the string 2) when tuning, place it outside the groove/slot of the nut: this way, not only is the tension upstream and downstream pe...

wow I love the different timbre colours and flavors of each note that blends together very well. The Aquila Corde Armoniche sugar strings are outstanding. I will have to order a set of the 156C superior tension for my Cordoba C9 Parlor guitar. I did switch out the bleached bone saddle to a fossil walrus ivory saddle and the tonal palette is far better than before. I got my fossil walrus saddle from Custom Inlay Leitchfield, Kentucky 42754. I also switched out the bone nut and saddle and bridge pins on both Martin 0-18 parlor and Martin 000-15M mahogany guitars to fossil walrus ivory a huge improvement!
Disappointed in this video. The packaging identifies the strings by color, you'd think that the video would show which color to begin with.
Tan fácil que es hablar 😂😂
Tested them on my guitar now. They squeak like hell!! Good lord! At least in my hands, the hands of an amateur. My guitar teacher didn't make them squeak when trying them, but he also plays much more accurate than I do. Still, quite a nails on a chalkboard experience when not playing super technical and careful. Maybe it's also depending on skin type or if you're smoking or not smoking or how you keep your skin care or something, don't know. But those strings are definitely not squeak free!
This is a shockingly unhelpful video. Especially considering they include a QR link in every package of strings to this. Considering the thought and engineering behind the development of these strings, I'm truly amazed that this is so bad.
Do you guys have a color guide? What string/note (GCEA) correspond to the colored dots??? Where’s that info???
Are they actually squeak-free when buying new today?
I bought these , the E string is as far as I got the string unraveled at the bridge side , bummer, maybe that set is a lemon. For the price not worth the time wasted for nothing
Thank you for the Demo!
How'd you get the high strings strung without snapping?
Hello, I'd like to buy some of these strings. Are there any stockists outside Europe? I have tried buying from your website but the shipping cost (to NZ) is over 50 euros for a single set. The 30U and 31U are available from Strings by Mail, but not the 32U that I'm looking for.
I am using Aquila strings, and I want to know what happens when you don't do things you showed here. Also why the left nut on the picture is not suitable for gut strings? Thanks.
Very good strings, and not only for a guitalele! I was given an old little Patenotte 1/2 guitar to renovate. Scale length 540, 43mm only at the headnut. Hardly playable for an adult with "normal" strings (48mm would have been better!)... So I adapted a Yamaha GL1 headnut, put these thinner strings, and tuned it to F#. Now I can play it better.
Nice
Para afinar en E en un guitalele que cuerdas me recomiendas? Gracias
¡No recomendado!
Que marca de guitalele es?
Es modo?
The strings sound better amplified than they do acoustically. How do they sound acoustically on an acoustic fretted bass? Please share a demo. By the way, I currently use tapewound strings on my Takamine acoustic bass. I don't love them. They do sound better than the acoustic bronze strings. Too much finger noise with the bronze strings.
We don’t manage to get the B string tuned, it keeps going down almost immediately. Anybody any idea why?
give it time and stretch it.
Looking for written advice for installation. I have watched the Flat Spirals video numerous times but haven’t understood what is trying to be accomplished. Customer Service has graciously provided me with replacement string. But I am afraid that without additional information I am likely to commit the same mistake again, again, again, Please anyone who has successfully completed stringing please add to comments. My E and A sound fantastic but no luck with the D and G. 🤙🏽🎶.

No matter what, you can't make a bass like this sound like an authentic double bass. It just isn't possible
I mean of course not! But is that the goal? Or is the goal to be a bass guitar but more acoustic? I have an upright, and while it's an absolute joy to play, it's also a completely different instrument and not everything that sounds good on electric bass sounds good on an upright. In fact, most of it doesn't! Upright gives you a hard attack with a fast decaying note and a real "thump" almost like a kick drum. Bass guitar performs a very different musical role. Having an upright bass at a jam session completely changes the stuff you play in a way that is fun, and can sound good, but I see the appeal of a bass guitar that's loud enough acoustically to be able to jam along to guitars and add a baseline to the jam. The issue to me isn't whether they sound like an upright (if you want an upright: get an upright!) the issue is volume. It's hard to come by an acoustic bass that projects. I don't need (or want) it to sound like an upright, I want it to be loud enough to be heard though
Really cool! But I wonder why he keeps smelling the guitalele's neck as he plays.
😂
I always lubricate the bridge & nut w/ pencil graphite to help them slide more smoothly.
Could you please post a link to these ?

Hello! I installed these strings on my 7 bass viola, and while the sound seems to me very convincing and gut-like (far more than other synth strings I tested, which sounded too mellow), the attack is really poor, like a major lack of grip, at the point to be unplayable. Would you know if some tips could make them playable?

That lovely hug at the end made my decision 🤗
This video makes no sense to me. "The most important thing to do is to run your hand over the section of the string that will go around the roller in order to soften it". None of the wound portion of the string is going around the tuner roller in this demo. And even if a small portion of it does eventually do to future tuning, no way will it be as much as was "softened" as you have softened down to like the fifth fret. Just a bad demo or am I missing something? Wouldn't you want to treat the whole string the same?

Is this a Yamaha GL 1 guitar?
yes!
I appreciate the warning about sharp edges, but...I know how to ensure my nut and bridge have no such edges, but how do I ensure the tiny hole in the tuner does not? Any suggestions on how to sand the edges of such a tiny hole, or even to feel what kind of edge it has? (Some of them are tinier than others, like some planetary tuners.)
Thank you for the comment, for suggestion and specific consultancy please write to our customer service at aquila@aquilacorde.com
@@AquilaStrings Thanks, but I think I managed it. I wrapped some sandpaper around the tip of an awl and think I managed to soften the corners of the holes. This was fiddly, and took some time, but it worked.
