ILCA Laser Race Rigging Options
มุมมอง 14K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Here are a couple of different ways you can set up your boat for racing.
ILCA Classic VS Composite
มุมมอง 7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
New ILCAs come in two specifications, Classic and Carbon. Classic boats come with Aluminium mast sections and tillers, less popular with racers due to their weight and size. Composite spec boats come with the Composite top section, tiller, and tiller extension.

Thanks for the review. I was considering one. Love Liz's words.
Are there any tutorials on how to set up an RS Quest for single-handed sailing? In particular, am wondering where to place pad eyes and cam cleats for the jib sheets so I can control the jib from the helm...

Lower the music!
Is it just me, or he switched primary and secondary term when addressing the lines?
Background music is annoying
Ooh, that's quite complex! Well explained but now I got a headache! 😂
I bought the new blocks how do I attach them to the boom
Bought the new blocks how do I attach them to the boom there are riveted together. The hangers on the boom are riveted to the boom as well.
How much do they go for now?
Molto creativo
tldr as someone who has sailed both is that the aero wins for recreational sailing and the laser wins for serious racers, solely based on the caliber of competition and community support, the aero is more fun to sail imo but simply does not have active fleets or good coaching available in most parts of the world

Really wish you had recut this video to resolve the media offline errors. Extra painful because this is an incredible resource otherwise
EXCELENT VIDEO ! WE D LOVE AN UPDATE VERSION
Thank you!
I have a laser, but I have to admit I would sail alot more if it weighed half as much like the aero.
If we want to encourage more women and girls to sail which single handed dinghy would you suggest? Our juniors learn on bath tubs (Optimists) and to keep them engaged in the sport they want a fun boat. Or they can ride a jetski!!
Bonjour Superbe remorque Peut on avoir les dimensions du plateau et de la remorque Merci et bonne journée Jef
no, just no, there is only one thing to do and upgrade all the bits.
Please do an updated version of this video with 8:1 cunningham and the newer outhaul too.
I’ve never seen a top laser sailor with the cun on port.
hi g
Brilliant and makes me want to change all my colour fading tired sheeting on my 1985 laser. 🎉
Unquestionably the greatest one-design sailboat ever made.
When I was 17 in 1958 a lady gave me a wooden sailfish which I sailed constantly on Crystal Lake Michigan. My tummy muscles would get tired of leaning so I put a board across the cockpit so I could stand up and sail which was amazing for me then. Only drawback was having to squat down to look under the sail for other boats. No windows in the sail then! I was criticized for showing off all the time (Had long black hair and black bathing suit) Even called a "hussy"! Far as I know I was the FIRST windsurfer!! Such a wonderful life that was!!
Just bought one today for our 110 acre lake. This is our first time sailing and our teens as well as us are very excited. 👍
Lucky Dawg!
Is it class legal to add some electric tape between the rudder and the universal joint over the casing? I don’t trust just having a “plastic clip sound” holding my tiller extension down…
yes it is perfectly legal well atleast i havent been flagged for it yet
Sorry, agree with all you say in the video except: "a unique boat" and then 10 seconds later say "there's half a million of them." "Unique" literally means there is only one. The Sunfish is absolutely the farthest boat there is away from unique.
Perhaps you'd be more comfortable with its unique design
@@reallyhappenings5597 Sure! Love it. 🙂
What's the correct rope diameter for the traveller? Thanks
What about the D-Zero it out Aeros the Aero and is probably what the laser should be in the modern era.
Can you please make a video of the manufacurers and types of small sailboats. Tanks.
i fell of using this
Nice video, thanks. One comment/change: a lot of folks rig the cunningham on the port side of the mast and use the port cleat, so that there's less rope in the way of their mast timer.
Oh how far rigging these boats has come. Comparing this setup to the current top end setup that you sell is night and day.
How is it different?

I already own an RS venture, and I’m really left in the dark by what the heck he was talking about in terms of that boat. Kind of a fail of a video.
I went through the process of selecting a new single handset last year. Settled on a lowrider Moth. No comparison, blasts Lasers and Spirals for dead. An active community of highly knowledgeable sailors who (mostly) build their own boats. Want light weight, try a scow, 22 kg in plywood, 15 kg in carbon fibre. I had a Laser 50 years ago. Disappointing then and almost arcahic now. So sad that sailing can't move on.
You two make a good team. My wife and I really need one of these boats.
Love this, thanks for sharing!
Raced lasers for years, never needed hiking pants, never got caught under the boom when tacking. Never sailed the aero, but would like to try it. Online forums complain the aero is uncomfortable in light winds cos you're spending too much time on your knees, the wider laser decks mean you can be more comfortable in light airs
The class should have a redesign of the rear to prevent the pain in the arse block catching!!!
It's pretty easy to avoid Just sheet in more when u gybe
Good one. Helps me assess used boats as I look around, how much upgrading is needed.
I use a Clew sleeve over the boom. It is a stainless steel unit fitted with clew hook and ball bearing outhaul block. No only does it hold the clew close to the boom, it's very easy to unhook the main. Much easier and safer to manoevre and launch, sometimes I only attach the sail once on the water.
So I faked it. Bought two Hobie Holder One 12 hulls (one to get the trailer) and fitted them with Laser recreational sails and line kits purchased through West Coast Sailing. What a ride and yes, with a Rolly Tasker jib (12’x4’) I can out run Lasers. Aeros? Probably not.
💯💯💯💯💯💯
Thanks! 👍
ILCA all the way man!!!
Excelente video, muy útil para quienes tenemos laser antiguos; solo que algunas fases pasan demasiado veloces
Easily car topable? Can you show us how?
