New Outdoor Fish Tank and Plants, New Filter Box Mostly Complete
มุมมอง 3.1Kวันที่ผ่านมา
The new outdoor fish tank project is up and running. I pulled some floaters from the Goldfish and Guppy tanks but also added two new plants. I'll let the new tank cycle then add fish.
New Project Update to the Outdoor Goldfish Tank...
มุมมอง 1.3K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
I want to consolidate the Fluval Canister filters to one side of the goldfish tank so I'm building a new filter box to hold both. No detailed plans, just DIY by the seat of my pants. The outcome is less than optimal...
A Quick Check-in on The Outdoor Goldfish and Guppy Tanks...
มุมมอง 1.1K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
I'm getting this video out late this week as I'm stuck-in the filter box project. This week we'll get an update on the outdoor guppy tank and the outdoor goldfish tank. Overall - fish are doing well and water is clear.
New pond plants to the Goldfish Tank! The Water Hyacinth are not doing so well....
มุมมอง 803หลายเดือนก่อน
I added two new pond plants - Parrot Feather and Wanvisa - Hardy Water Lilly. The water hyacinth are not doing so well as the goldfish are eating the roots. We are getting to the end of the season and the Water Hibiscus is starting to yellow and I'll soon cut that back. I want to be sure to keep a healthy plant level thought the off season.’
Managing Summer Heat and the Outdoor Goldfish Tank!
มุมมอง 891หลายเดือนก่อน
It's been warm one here, well for us anyway. Not as hot as other places so I'm not complaining! Just managing the temp swings and keeping the goldfish healthy and happy. Adding temporary shading and improving oxygenation.
Adding Sand Substrate to the Outdoor Goldfish Tank
มุมมอง 657หลายเดือนก่อน
I added pool sand to the outdoor goldfish tank to provide the fish something to sift through. I initially had no substrate in the tank outside of what the goldfish managed to dig out of the water plant pots. Seeing that they enjoyed rooting through my plants, it seemed that they would also enjoy a substrate.
Summer Transformation: Outdoor Goldfish Tank
มุมมอง 1.2Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Let's take a look back at the changes to the outdoor goldfish tank over the summer. New plants and new layout to improve the tank over time.
More Changes - To The Outdoor Goldfish Tank!
มุมมอง 2K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
I updated the plant layout in the outdoor goldfish tank. The goldfish dug out the rocks and soil from the potted water lilly so I repotted and added fertilizer. Guppy tank doing well.
New Planter (kind of DIY?) for the Outdoor Goldfish Tank.
มุมมอง 8862 หลายเดือนก่อน
I wanted a planter for the goldfish tank that would hold plants without having to stack anything underneath it for support. I modified a plastic planter and some plant hooks to suspend the planter in place a few inches below the waterline. Looks nice!
Water Hibiscus Update on the Outdoor Goldfish Tank & New Plants
มุมมอง 5772 หลายเดือนก่อน
Update on the Water Hibiscus and I added a few new plants including Pink Sprite and Lizards tail. I also repotted the Water Lily in hopes that it will grow. A new Shubunkin Goldfish makes an appearance!
Two Minute Tuesday - Just Goldfish!
มุมมอง 3.3K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Two minutes of just Goldfish in the outdoor goldfish tank. The water is nice and clear and I added a new Shubunkin goldfish to the tank. #goldfish #goldfishpond #peaceful
Crystal Clear Water in the Outdoor Goldfish Tank!
มุมมอง 1.9K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Clear water has been a challenge and I think I've found a long-term solution. #goldfish #goldfishpond #clearwater #waterplant
Drama with the Outdoor Goldfish Tank - The Water Hibiscus has Fallen!
มุมมอง 1963 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Water Hibiscus toppled over and broke a branch. It reached a height of ~ 12ft but did not have a sufficient base and toppled over. In the video we'll save the plant and reorganize the tank. #goldfish #goldfishpond #waterplant
Adding Guppies to the New Patio Pond!
มุมมอง 2063 หลายเดือนก่อน
I added platinum guppies and tequila sunrise guppies to the patio pond. I've never had guppies before, so this is a first for me. I also completed a small water change on the outdoor goldfish tank. Minor tragedy with the giant water hibiscus that tumbled under its own weight.

Woww❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
what type of goldfish are those? they are beautiful
Thank you. The two similar gold color are common goldfish, the smaller calico colored is a shubunkin and the rest are comets. They've been a good mix for me.
the mini pond looks great
Thank you! Your fish room also looks great.
Top is not needed on the filter as it usually will move the water better without one. Your goldfish tank is looking good!
Yeah, I just left it as is. Thank you!
I put wood chips around my fruit trees. You can also use hay or straw as mulch around the trees. Helps feed them as it breaks down.
I was also thinking maybe a ground cover that will manage w/o direct sun.
@@mrdougs_gf Monkey grass is a good one I have under some of my trees.
Looking good. I would add snails and ricefish.
Thank you! I've never had ricefish, need to learn more about them.
My goldfish only really like to eat duckweed which I give to them often to keep them happy and leaving my other plants alone!
I'll find duckweed for them. Do you find that it takes over the tank or do your GF keep it in check?
@@mrdougs_gf My goldfish eat every piece they can find!
This has to be my all-time favorite set up!
That is very kind of you to say, thank you!
I think he's gonna be big somday
If you're talking about the chocolate lab, he's already there ~115lbs. Big dude, but very gentle, not yet 2 yrs old.
You could try shrimp or rice fish but I found out that rice fish are invasive species for me in the UK.
I'm thinking ricefish. Something new for me.
very nice :D
Thank you!
I would leave it. Only you know that is not quite square. I would go with ricefish in the 15 tub. I started with one pond and now I have many and want more. :) Many of mine have only plants as their filters.
Looks good so far!
Thank you!
Really nice! It’s a fun addiction for sure
Thank you!
@@mrdougs_gf you are welcome
Looking forward to seeing what you put in the bucket (6:07)
Any suggestions?
Really nice setups
Thank you!
The fish look great! You can put the guppy tub inside of a little larger tubs and then add some sprayfoam in-between the two to insulate the tub better and keep the water warmer.
Thank you! One more project.....
They recommend no more than 50% of the water surface should be covered with floating plants as you need to make sure that there is good air exchange. When you remove some you can use the extra plants as mulch on your potted plants or feeding them to the goldfish is good too.
I hadn't considered that, thank you. I'll pull some out for the goldfish.
The goldfish and shubunkin are looking good
Thank you!
Will it survive winter months outside?
I live in a mild climate where the winter avg low temp is 45f (7c). When I built the pond I included foam insulation sheets to help with temperature swings, and in the cooler months I add an aquarium heater to moderate the low temps in the evening and early morning. That combination has worked well for me.
Hyacinth and water lettuce cannot deal with prolonged shade and cold nights(zone 4/5 and lower), and to some degree flowing water, for some reason the roots just don't grow well and you get lots of rot on the larger leafs and the new smaller leafs don't grow bigger... Red rosy don't really munch larger vegetation that's not already decomposing You're filter is really well built, amazing clairity
Thank you! The hyacinth have been a challenge.
Love the pond
Thank you!
@mrdougs_gf what is the dimensions of this pond?
@thefoxtvviral - It's ~ 6ft. long x 3 ft. wide and 2ft. deep.
Pup likes the umbrella most
Yes!
Ice cubes more plants and a bigger umbrella will keep em cold
Thank you! Fortunately the weather cooled so good for now.
Nice looking pond! I envy your 91 degree temps. I'm in TX and we are remaining in the upper 80s and low 90s through at least the first week of October :( A couple years ago I was having to freeze gallon jugs of water and put them in the patio pond to keep the water temp under 95F. I had a similar problem with floating plants. Goldfish seem to nibble the roots away the plants die. So I moved to just using lilies and other plants that could be potted.
Thank you! I have little room to complain compared to your weather there. If we get stuck back into the heat, I'll use frozen water bottles to help manage. I may add a Lilly or two, not sure.
I got a question for you i have 2 by 2 ft ,1 ft depth holding tub i want to ask how many Gold fish can i keep in them and what plants that can live without getting eaten by the monsters it has a top filter with a water pump 1600 L/h ,i can do water change 1 a week, small Gold fish variety,1.5 inch
Check out this site - aquariumscience.org/index.php/13-stocking/. Really good info that has helped me a ton.
Hey man love your videos your are doing great work people think gold fish are hard to keep but that is not Truth with proper balance of thing you can keep them
Thank you!
very nice pond
Thank you! A work in process.
lmfao i could've sworn that water hibiscus was a cannabis plant, looks awesome! as a new fish keeper, an outdoor pond is the next dream
It is California after all so I do have some flexibility on pond plant selection....
great underwater shots. can I ask the brand of camera?
Thank you! I use a GoPro Hero 11.
I'm getting my outdoor waterfeature goldfish tank made with some glass panels , it's nice to see them from the side
Sounds good!
Extend the tank that would be nice
Yes! Starting to think about what a larger tank might look like for me. In ground, above ground, hybrid? Not sure yet, but giving it more thought.
Awesome pond. I love the plants.
Thank you!
Hi, you have a really nice pond. What is its size?
Thank you! It's ~ 6ft. long x 3 ft. wide and 2ft. deep.
Truly mesmerizing and makes me feel zen. Love it. You could grow edible plants with iAV Sandonics. Otherwise, good luck. Peace be with you. May God Bless!
Thank you!
Keep us posted. Nice build 👍
Thank you!
Hey bud what kind of wood did u use (pressure treated or not) and did ustain it or something?
The 4x4 posts are pressure treated and I didn't add anything to them. The trim is redwood and I applied a water sealant.
Thanks man looks good by the way
That's a pretty beautiful pond man, goodjob👍
Thank you!
i loved the underwater cam! it was so cool!! those are some gorgeous fish
Thank you!
Beneficial bacteria grows on each piece of sand so it can only help with water quality when used in a thin layer that the fish can keep stirred up.
Adding some sand for the goldies to play with is a great idea! Nice fish and pond!
You mentioned adding sand in a prior comment, so it's your great idea! Thank you
Awesome pond, how old and big are the large goldfish?
I would like to know that too. They are so pretty and big!
Thank you! The solid orange (largest) 6 yrs; The orange/white 4yrs; The sarasa (mostly white with orange dots) 3 yrs; The nearly all white with the yellow tint on tits head 2 yrs. I'll have to figure a way to measure w/o stressing them, but they've grown pretty big!
In the guppy tub the Water hyacinth look like they need some nutrition. Maybe add a little aquarium fertilizer to water or some of the goldfish pond water.
Thanks for that. I'm wondering if it's too much direct sunlight.
@@mrdougs_gf I have my water hyacinth plants in full sun because they make more flowers that way. But they need fertilizer to do well. They can be grown with their roots in soil like other potted plants as long as they are watered often.
@@jonisolis9645 Thank you, I have liquid fertilizer and will give it a go.
I grow duckweed in another container or containers to feed to my goldfish and they leave my water lilies alone. I also try to pot up my lilies in large and wide containers to give their roots lots of room to grow. I also add a little sand to the pond bottom just to give the goldfish something to search through. Lovely looking pond! I get flowers every year from my lizard tail plants.
Over time, a pond undergoes a process called ecological succession. Bacteria and plants initially colonize the pond, breaking down organic matter and releasing nutrients for the plants. when the plants are happy, water is clear. Nice pond :)
Thank you!
Looks good! I add a handful of sand or two to my goldfish ponds just to give them something on the bottom to look through.
Thank you. I'll likely do the same.
I grow duckweed in other containers to add to my goldfish ponds for them to eat. Lizard tail is one of the plants, what are the other two? Thanks. Also where are you located?
One is Pink Sprite but I don't remember the other taller grassy one. (If you touch the leaves its smells like black licorice.). I'm in Carlsbad, CA.
You have some great looking goldfish there!
I LOVE FISH!!!!❤ THERE SO COOL!!!!❤
Nice video. Great job on the ponds. Enjoy!
Thank you!
