Hi Lordina. I saw an Amazon review you did about the Toshiba Canvio hard drive. Two clicks of the mouse brought me here. I'm just a nobody who geeks out over small technical things. I'm not affiliated with anyone or represent anyone in any capacity. The 931 GBs you see is normal. Manufacturers advertise 1 TB as 1000 GB which has been long disputed. We prefer 1024 GBs (as it's a power of two, and that's what computers use to divide by to choose which unit of magnitude to display such as MB, GB, TB, etc). The rest of the "missing" space is dedicated to the file system structure used on it when it was formatted. The total 1000 GBs unformatted space is completely useless without some kind of structure or database. A place where filenames, metadata, folder names, timestamps etc are stored. It's a bit like owning some land with nothing on it. To live on that land you have to build something on it first, walls, pathways, utilities, fencing, foundations, etc. which all take up some space which you can't use afterwards. Your computer will report the _usable_ space for files/folder/etc after that structure has been put in place. Hope that makes sense. As for the lights and stuff you mentioned, no idea, I never bought one (yet).
