Greetings, fellow doomer! This channel shows how someone (me) with an average gaming skill play custom maps for the classic Doom series. I prefer hard/slaughter maps.

Decades of peace have passed on the planet Elysia, with one half of the planet belonging to the UAC, and the other belonging to demon kind. One day, a meteor crashes into Mount Esthar, the largest volcano in the demon realm, shaking the planet to its core. An alien parasite slithers its way from the meteor infecting all of demonkind. As things seem like they couldn't get worse, Mount Esthar suddenly erupts, spreading corruption over most of the planet killing all UAC personnel on the planet. Your mission is to travel to Elysia, search for any UAC survivors, and terminate the alien parasite.
Corruption is a thirty-five level MBF21 mapset created by NinjaDelphox, EVILNECK, and Arsinikk, comprised of detailed and action heavy maps inspired by Back to Saturn X2 and Hell Revealed II, along with other games such as Final Fantasy, Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, Metroid, Resident Evil, and Mega Man.

@@Bryan-T It's hard to compare the final fights on these difficulties (on Wild! half of revs and hellknights will be replaced by pain elementals but you'll have one invuln) but on the first half Wild! is actually easier like it was on Map 05. The next map on Wild! looks way easier than UV. As I can see not every map has a harder version on Wild! And if it has, then there may be more useful items there, so it’s not much more difficult. In rare cases it's boring bs.

I actually got to play this map out of curiosity with arsinikk watching me. I have to say it’s surreal to play a doom map with the creator giving input. Plus the map itself was really damn fun. Nice gameplay, man.

@@ASLB247 The most annoying thing is when your efforts go almost in vain, and you don’t understand what’s wrong, while someone shooting the same content gets much more. Although this could still be due to my long breaks.

@@Bryan-T Because of this map I dropped this playthrough a long time ago. This is definitely not what I prefer. But now I’ve built a specific route where I get to the last battle, clearing all the rooms that I definitely won’t return to, collecting all the rockets and plasma there, and then going to clear all the rest. I definitely wouldn’t forget some secrets, because they are either included in the main route or are just very useful. I walked this map a certain number of times, following this route, and everything was more or less memorized. However, if I strayed from this route, I would definitely get lost and would have to navigate using the automap.
This map indeed is easier on "WILD!". GGs.

Interesting color palette... that plasma gun reminds me the laser guns you had in Descent, with the ammo changing colors depending of the strength of your weapon. This WAD surely has some extraterrestrial vibes, reinforced by the Lower Brinstar music track from Super Metroid here.

Yeah, masterminds are very dangerous. Although the SSG fight caused me a lot more problems. Because of that I stopped trying to get better time. You can also pass the first yard encounter easier if you hide in a cave with two revenants and let cyber to kill most of the guys and finish him with invuln.

Thanks! I had a really tough time getting this time. So much shit was going on. I beat this map 5 times including this and improved my time by only 30 seconds. This is not to mention those attempts where I passed the marble room but died in the plasma gun room. Even in this attempt I had problems with that room. I played Corruption before release and in my memories the marble room was harder as if there were more archviles. Also I think it would be better if this was the end of the episode.

Thanks! Actually I also had trouble with this map. It took a little more than 70 attempts, although I often stopped attempt almost at the beginning because of rage. In principle, you can die here almost anywhere.
@@DeazMaurice Haha, that was my experience as well. Doesn't show in your playthrough though, very calm and collected!
@@MancubianCandidate It was lucky run. For example almost nobody attacked me when I dealt with archies in the first building. I even beat my practice time by 0.03 second.

@@dunndunn3850 If I had time, I would try to record Map 12 as well. Perhaps even Maps 13 and secret maps. It's not keyboard-only. Did you think so because of the smoothness? If so, then this is a dsda feature that can be configured when playing or viddumping the demo.

I plan to finish Hell Revealations. I think Map 29 is worse than Map 28. What do you think is more difficult: Corruption or Hell Revealations?
@@DeazMaurice Corruption gets very difficult nearing Episode 3... and that's with me using saves. The later maps of Corruption are honestly above my skill level, whereas I'm able to get through Hell Revealations just fine. Also which part are you struggling with in HRs MAP29?
@@Arsinikk I think it's the cave fight with damaging floor and a lot of enemies. The platforming part is annoying considering that I prefer saving invuln for the secret with cyber and archies. By the way, I remember you said to leave commentary about Map 25.
@@DeazMaurice Ohhhhh lol for some reason I thought you were talking about the mandatory damaging floor section... but now I realised you're talking about the cave section where you need to shoot a bunch of switches. Quite a few people have had quite a bit of trouble with that room. I'm guessing it's a bit tricky due to RNG? I'm also a little surprised you have trouble with the platforming section, since I deliberately went out of my way to make it "easy" to traverse. Regarding saving the invuln for the secret fight... that's fair. That's possibly my meanest fight in the wad. Personally for me, the hardest fight is the one right before the final fight. Essentially the teleporting walkway fight with a shit ton of Cybers and Archviles. That's the fight that scares me the most. I think in general, the hardest part of MAP29 is simply it's length. Whether it's a good or bad thing, I did have to develop a custom nodebuilder preset to get this entire map to fit within Vanilla limits (as it's pushing them quite hard). In terms of raw difficulty, I still think MAP28 is harder. But MAP29 is a close second due to it's length and possibly RNG nature of some of the fights. I would be scared to try and single segment MAP29 :P MAP25: Ah yeah, apologies... I'll see if I can write that up today or tomorrow. Been a bit busy with other Doom projects, that I kinda neglected doing that write up. Sorry bout that.

I guess they were placed so that they were stuck inside each other.
Very fun fact: the music track for this level is a cover of "Foule Sentimentale" by the French singer Alain Souchon. The song being a criticism of the materialistic society and its emphasis to make us buying unnecessary stuff and, notably... too much food ;) And that choice perfectly suits the level's title and clichés as well!

Thanks! I don’t think that even one of my runs can be called super smooth, at least due to the fact that I can't move the mouse normally. I also noticed that you support me on Doomworld, which makes me a little happy. Regarding the cyberdemon, I don’t know what is more intense on -fast: circle-strafing him or this approach. However, the second approach requires much less movement. Last time here on the first approach I almost ran out of room for the mouse.

@@DeazMaurice Yeah, I mean, Sunlust is always good to see dismantled and I like the HUD that shows all the monsters / items / secrets and watching as that fills up, especially in the infight-heavy levels.
You play very poor .. Raise your skill. You catch too much missiles and others. You catch them even at large spaces. Where you can easily avoid them.

С очень плохой игрой я бы вообще не мог проходить сложные вады, например, Sunlust.

This one looks pretty rough on fast. Lots of monsters always in line of sight.
A long time ago I may have tried this map on -fast and it seemed very difficult at the time. Although I soon realized that no one balances maps for this. The roughest thing on any map might be turbo pinkies without reliable weapons, so this map isn't too bad.

This is what happens when you don't edit the video. Interestingly, it doesn't feel that loud during the game itself, but on my wireless headphones it gives me goosebumps. Although the fact is that when viddumping I additionally use HD sounds, which cannot be used when recording a demo.
@@DeazMaurice You usually edit the volume for that? I don't mind it, just pointing out the bug(?) with these old ports. Not sure why it's only the revenant that has an issue though.
@@Bryan-T Once I figured out how to use viddump to create high quality 60 fps videos, I stopped editing them with a few exceptions (most of Resurgence videos), although before that my editing consisted of cutting out the outro. I think in these ports there is simply no loudness normalization or whatever it is called, only a limit on the number of sounds that can be heard at the same time. Although dsda-doom is still being updated, so it can be considered modern.
Holy shit the madman did it, great job! Ngl, I expected you to write an essay about how awful the map was to max in the description lol. About the strategies, in the first fight I spend much less time to let stuff infight and I wake up the viles immediately to get the RL as fast as possible, for the secret, I actually 2 shot the cybers, but I get why you wouldnt if, as you said, you arent very good at it and had to do a saveless uvmax of the map and for the first big BFG fight, I actually stay outside lol. I can understand anyone not liking it, but I still adore this map, it has my longest mapping time, but I am super proud of how it turned out and it was super fun to make (and monsieur.E probably feels the same way about it). By the way, if you are curious and in case you didnt see it, the original unerfed version was released yesterday, so if you want to take a look (tho no way I am expecting a max of that one)
I beat this on about the fourth try, so I managed to avoid the dreaded grind, although run sucks. The map feels terrible due to the sluggish start, but is otherwise quite ok, although luring hellknights and barons back and forth in the damaging floor fight is a bit tedious. And the description was really worth writing. I didn’t want to write it because I didn’t do it for the previous 30 maps, that is, for consistency)
@@DeazMaurice I remembered you writing à description for the other runs but maybe I confuse it for someone else, about the run sucking, nah it doesnt, just beating the map saveless shows great skill (especially on attempt 4) and I get why you wouldnt want to grind this for à long time. Maybe herding is à bit tedious, but I admit I prefer to rush this fight a bit more than you did even if it's undoubtably way more risky, especially for à run like this and can even fuck you over at times

@@DeazMaurice funny part is the beginning of this map actually has more ammo than it used to have. Also the beginning used to be way more rough as there was no rocket ammo in the lift fight room, so you had to ssg everything during that fight. While most fights in this map stay intact from the original, much more health and ammo was given in most sections. Also some of the fights were nerfed a bit. I think one of the biggest examples is the big rev horde fight. While it's very similar to the original fight, I think around 1/4 of the revs were cut... So that simple change made it a bit easier to find space to get around the revs. Another example would be the AV corridor near the very end. In this version it's 1/3 as long as it was in its original incarnation, as I said I thought it took too long and was too tedious. There was a single fight that was completely cut from the map because I thought it was insane and required too much precision to win. Essentially you had to weave your way with around 100 barons/hell knights teleporting in an arena on one side, with the other side holding 10 stationary cybers. The tricky part with this is you kinda needed to enter the crossfire to make sure you didn't get sandwiched. This fight used to be right after the drop behind the yellow key door near the start. The other fight that was significantly overhauled was the giant descending circle arena. In the original version there were around 500 more enemies and you had around 15 stationary cybers both on the east and west side of the arena. Again I wasn't a big fan of this for a few reasons. 1) it requires the player to constantly run into the cyber rocket crossfire and 2) if you don't wipe out at least one side of cybers before the monster horde is wiped out, you're basically fucked as There's no easy way to dodge hundreds of rockets from two directions. Anyway I think this version, while being the hardest map in the main wad, is closer to fitting with the rest of the maps... Especially compared to what it used to be. I still like the map quite a bit though. I'll admit my favourite fight of the map is the giant baron/hell knight horde fight. Idk I think I just like that it kinda requires some strategy to both whittle down numbers while being forced to swoop in and grab a rad suit and/or mega but also make sure you don't get sniped by the AVs.
