Weber Go Anywhere next to Smokey Joe - family review

After our friends showed us how versatile their Weber Smokey Joe was against our Weber Q 2000, we decided to buy a go anywhere. We love the q series but it’s not easy to carry around and takes up a lot of boot space. Better for larger group sizes but not for camping or beach days. We couldn’t have been happier with our new purchase, the go anywhere performed amazingly well. We used it too cook ...

    We've both too. ~ I cut the legs off at where they just begin to curve on the Smokey Joe. It still sits on the ground ok, but we use it set in/on an old 2 foot tall milk can with the lid removed. It vents just fine to cook at a decent height. As our fav's are half chickens..lid cracked. Ashes that sneak out the bottom vent go into the milk can. Can move it when lit too. ~~ Li'l tidbit if run across an old milk can at some antique joint. Rusty ones are cheap. tips me hat ~

    Thta smokey joe is the oremium on and should have a latch that goes around the ip handle. The original smokey joe has the vent on the bottom and an ash catcher but no bale to secute the lid

    What about cooking area Go Anywhere vs. Smokey Joe? On the paper it looks quite simillar, but what about real usage?

    The sides of the Weber Go grill grate are useful for adding wood pellets/chips for smoking

    Thanks for the video. That version of the Smokey Joe has a design flaw-the air intake is at or slightly above the charcoal level instead of below, so it doesn't have proper air flow. That's why after a bit it smoked while the GA was still supporting a flame, with air coming in from beneath the charcoal. Also the comment below regarding a chimney style charcoal starters is correct. Weber sells a small one.

  • @markwoodroffe8832

    First thing you never ever do with any weber grill is shame it by using those pre soaked charcoal bags. Chimney starter and briquettes or lump wood every time please.

    • @MacTechG4
      @MacTechG4 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, chimney starter is The Way, as is lump charcoal, I use B&B Oak lump (brown bag) and it smells like a regular campfire, no chemical taste like pre soak or match light briquettes.

    Again, another great video completely ruined with completely unnecessary loud obnoxious "music". Just shut off the frigging music so we can hear and think about what we are watching! For crying out loud!!!

    Does anyone know if you can get a separate repair kit for this tent? I got a massive tear in it caused by a tree falling down. Stupidly I bought it with cash and don't have proof or purchase so they won't replace it. Berghaus says Blacks can deal with it and Blacks says Berghaus can deal with it :) Thanks!

    thanks guys. this was great stuff. have had 3 attempts to fold and put away. it reminds me of sleeping bags that never fold up to get back in their bag. will now try with the folding in 3rds. note for all...don't try half and then half again. it doesn't work!!

    hi! thanks for doing this. Can I ask how you managed to fold the tent in the end? I'm really struggling here and cant get it to fit in the bag doh!thanks

    • @roberttranckle3148
      @roberttranckle3148 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      kelly wilson, hi. Sorry for late reply. We have used this tent about 6 times now and really like it. We have now also bought the air porch, which although does not fit the air 8 perfectly, it's still a creates great additional space for eating etc. Regarding folding, lay the tent out and fold the tend in 3rds and then 3rds again (long ways), then tightly role the width of the tent. We then put the bag upside down and pull down over the roll, once you get the first bit in the bag, it's fairly easy, but still much easier with two people!

      kelly wilson I have a standard non air tent.. decided that the supplied bag was not large enough likd many! so bought a large hold all to carry the tent in without it being rolled too tight. I also keep the pegs separate to avoid risk damage to tent when stored

    • @martinjames6942
      @martinjames6942 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Worth factoring in time to dry it out from any internal condensation when taking a tent down

    We've just puchased an air 8. Can I check the pump was in the bag with the tent as I was hoping not to have to unroll it in my living room to find out! thanks.

    Love this tent, used it for the first time this weekend. Looking for carpet for it but berghaus/millets don't do a specific one for this tent, if anyone can help it would be much appreciated??

      Bob Tranckle Hi Bob, I really like the Berghaus Air 8 tent. It seems to be a good family tent for the UK weather. The only downside I can point is the blue roof that makes interior a little dark when the sky is clouded. Something good for the Dracula but not for family seating half of a day in the tent. As you know there is no groundsheet and carpets made specifically for this tent. I attached the link below how the other tent users solved this problem: www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=32&TopicID=324649 This year our family was in Crantock next to Newquay but we are already planning going to Scotland as there is a nice camping site: www.pitchup.com/campsites/Scotland/Scotland/Highlands/Fort_William/glen-nevis-caravan-camping-park/?redirect=1&type=4&arrive=2015-08-23&depart=2015-08-29 All the best !

      +Bob Tranckle Hi Bob, I've just bought the Air 6 this afternoon and the guy in the shop told me that the carpet is due out later this year, but it may not Berghaus, I think he said it would eurohike or similar, he said they're bringing out a footprint for it too cheers Antony
