Consider a colored IBC or tote cover to block the UV. Painting is cool but HDPE does not take paints and glues and adhesives. Lastly, don't forget that output water flow is limited to input vent flow.

Cost is a big reason why. Its takes a quart to cover it and then the acetone. Youll soend $20 to coat one tank. If you have 16 like me thats a significant cost. I have tanks exposed to the SE Arizona sun that still have good black plastic 3 years on. But im redoing my tank with a better idea: Synthetic roof felt. You can wrap it for less than a dollar and then coat it with elastomeric paint that costs $75 for 5 gallons. It cuts out the light apmost as good as black plastic but can stay nice and pliable for years.

Water will find its own level is what he means in the two tanks or for as many tanks you have connected together at the same level. If the tanks are not at the same level the water will level off in both tanks but they wont have the same amount of water.

I happened to find your channel while trying to find an off grid solution for our camper. We have an external filtration ( 3 stage) would something like this have enough psi to feed the RV? Should I add a tank to keep steady pressure?

I’m seeing more and more of this.. this is not what you want to do.. even the barrel companies are making videos like this.. You want to fill one by one from an over flow in the tops.. you don’t want equal amounts between all barrels.. you want as much water in one barrel as possible so that you maintain pressure when coming out.. you also don’t need a breather.. you simply use the what would be the last overflow to fill the next tank that doesn’t exist in place to drain out.. When you do this from the top you push air from one tank to another naturally through each overflow till the water reaches that level then next tank one by one.. your final overflow becomes you breather and overflow vent at the same time.. this is the proper way to do this.. Second you then build a one way manifold off the bottom spouts that flow back to the main tank through a hose splitter.. This means you fill one tank at a time keeping constant pressure at all times.. drain one tank at a time in reverse keeling constant pressure until the first tank is being drained.. The end result is a lot more pressure and no longer a need for venting the tops of each tank just the system as a whole.. making a 2-3-10 barrel system as as a single large barrel instead of multiple have filled barrels

Nice rig. Couple of comments: 1) I'd maintain the largest lines when connecting the totes. You have garden hose. I'd prefer to use 1 1/2" - 2" PVC or flexible hose with minimal right angles. 2) I'd minimize the right angles. These create back pressure and make your pump work harder. 3) I'd add some sort of screen to the top hoses - maybe some more of the strainer bag. Don't want any critters getting in and blocking the hose. Good luck

Hi will. My barrels are up on cinder blocks. They are connected as you show but are not filling. It is currently raining and the one barrel is overflowing into patio. What have i done wrong? Do they need to be on the ground? They are even heights as you show. I appreciate your guidance!

I got a 50 gallon rain wizard rain barrel that don't out out enough pressure to use thru a hose. Was going to buy pump but now im questioning as it looks im need to buy that accumulator as well. This is getting expensive. I just wanted my yard to stop flooding. Well now i need to be able to get the water to go thru a hose so I can out the water elsewhere.
