The We-drill is like a large bow drill, where the people are the bow. The process of starting the fire looks like a game of cooperative tug of war, but more like a dance. I love the open ended approach to life. Beautiful. I want to join ❤
I really am wanting information on the safety of these folks and their community, I pray you are all doing alright through the devastating flooding and storms.
Thank you for your care and prayers. No one was injured and only two structures were seriously damaged. We've made temporary repairs to roads and bridges. There's still a lot of work ahead.
So does this place even exist anymore after the landslides and shit just obliterated everyone
We're still here! We had road and bridge damage, and were able to make temporary repairs within a few days. Our off-grid power and water systems only had minor damage. One residence sustained major damage, but was unoccupied at the time. We've also been out helping our neighbors.
Yeah very similar to the clay + char + hemp + lime plaster which we’re using internally on our cold uninsulated masonry walls. I’m calling ours “char-cob” as the recipe is very similar to cob but instead of sand we use charcoal.
Thanks for sharing. We're interested in how other folks are using biochar.
We’re mixing ground-up homemade char into clay (with some hemp and lime as well) to create insulating plaster. We apply it thickly to cold masonry walls to not only improve insulation in the building but also help manage moisture / condensation and prevent mould growth.
How is it working? Using biochar in building is relatively new for us.
I’ll let you know in a couple years! Just got it on the wall last week.
Wow, I wish Eartheaven was in Arizona ❤
Are you accepting new members to your village? What are the conditions/cost?
Yes. You can find info on our website www.earthave.org.

Thank you so much 😀
Do they have thorns?
I don't think so.
@@earthavenecovillage ok thanks for the info.👍
I am rapt with a fascination for Earthaven EcoVillage. As a boy, I was sent off to Camp Rockmont in Black Mountain. While initially homesick, I quickly did a 180 and had the experience of a lifetime! It was so wonderful, it almost seems a dream. Now, I am drawn back there. It is an undeniable pull to return...perhaps a lesson I've yet to learn. Thanks for the insight! ~ I very much enjoyed the video.
Thank you! The land definitely has a pull.
What a magical place❤
Beautiful!
Thank you!
what a dream 🥹 one day 🤞❤️
Hello, I am 25 years old and I am from the Outer Banks. I cut grass by myself for a living but I cant seem to get settled anywhere. All of the housing is turning into airbnbs in the summer and I now have to live / work out of my truck. Its very hard. Food is way too expensive and even if i find a place to live its like 1000$ a month in rent. I have lawncare and construction tools (lawnmower, weedwacker, backpack blower, boxes of power tools (drills and saws)) and I think I could be very good help for you guys. I am tired of living like this. I am broke but I will work to live with you guys. I have no family to help me, no friends, nothing. My dream since a kid was always to live in the mountains away from so many people and learn how to survive in the woods/bushcraft. I would very very much appreciate an opportunity with you guys and can talk over the phone with you if you want. My number is 252-401-3437 Looking forward to a reply Thanks -Brian

I was very moved by this conversation as well. I feel so bonded to you and your experiences. Chloe, I feel a kindred connection with you as a mother of a young child, you are an inspiration to me. I once co-parented a young child with another woman and now that I am raising my own child I long for that companionship and support again. I am so glad you have found it and have been able to nurture it for so long. NikiAnne, I have listened to you talk in so many videos I feel like I know you as well. Your passion for your community is inspiring. I hope to learn much from you when I come to Earthaven for the Experience Weekend next month (May2024). I am inspired by your concept of “settling” as I have been pulled in so many different directions of the country in my search for community. I have developed pieces of community in each of them and I feel like my community will never be in one place. Siobhan, you are a wise wolf. I hope to get a chance to meet you one day as well. ❤
Thank you for your comment. I let NikiAnne and Chloe know. Blessings.
I've been Hearing 'Appalachia' all week and this popped up! I have vague, happy memories of a past life spent there and I'm working toward joining a community like this, but I'm Australian this life time. Perhaps I'll visit one day. Xox
We look forward to meeting you if you make it out this way
I can tell the future that dark ferd sheep will have two babys in march on a Tuesday
I have a lot of respect for those willing to try something different!
Thank you for seeing us!
Village Scale - I think that’s the secret sauce of functional human societal living
Especially if they can cooperate to address larger scoped issues.
I love this. I am very eager to become a Veggie Lady and work with you. I will be making my first visit to Earthaven in May for the Experience Weekend and I very much hope to have the chance to meet and work with you.
Great! We look forward to meet you.
Where are you located in western NC? Would love to visit. My daughter lives in Black Mountain. I live in western MA.
We're about 20 minutes southeast of Black Mountain towards Old Fort if you go the long way. Our address is Black Mountain because our front gate is in Buncombe County.
@@earthavenecovillagepraying your alright and safe
So well done! Knowing the actors (and being a bit of each character myself) it was laugh out loud hilarious!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sooooooo cool!!! 😮
Thanks!
Gorgeous video in all respects.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Those petroleum and rubber byproducts are leaching into the groundwater. I’d take them to the recycling plant to be made into something other than sitting on my property. Test ur well water and you’ll be surprised with the results.
That is a concern and we aren't using them on new projects. There isn't a well anywhere near these tires.
would it be possible at an ecovillage (which is not a trailer park) to have one trailer like the ones you are building with the ability to pull another one up parralel to it and bolt it together as a double wide... with another trailer. kind of liike a bolt on addition?
Seems possible if you could get them level with each other. Building codes, zoning, CC&Rs, and subdivision requirements would vary by location.
Beautiful
Thank you
Amazing video
Thanks!

So blessed and thankful that y'all came to my neighborhood. Love you all. Nikki Anne and Farmer are some of the best folks on the planet.
This is wonderful, Nikki Anne, Farmer, and the whole team!
My short time spent at Medicine Wheel with Patricia Allison is one of my greatest memories.. I carry that experience with me everyday. This had to be 2012-2013. If you've never been I highly recommend. Life changing.
Thank you. I miss Patricia and am grateful for her contributions to Earthaven.
Great video intro to EH!
Thank you Gred!
