TRAILER: DORA-Escape into Music (2023)
With this movie we dive into a time that has more in common with today's than one might think. "It was the golden age of security," writes Stefan Zweig (1881-1942) in his book "The World of Yesterday." It was in this "world of yesterday" that composer Dora Pejačević (1885-1923) created her works, which are in no way inferior to those of her famous male colleagues. She was born a countess and was able to develop her talent at an early age. But after World War I and the collapse of the K.u.K-monarchy, she had to adapt her life to the new times in order to continue composing. "A person like me cannot choose any class," she wrote to a friend.
After her tragic death in Munich in 1923, Dora Pejačević fell into oblivion, at least outside her native Croatia. In the film, her music comes alive again, and filmmakers, pianist Kyra Steckeweh and director Tim van Beveren, together with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, have succeeded in realizing a plan that the composer was unable to complete 100 years ago.
Promoting the rediscovery of women in music history has been the endeavor of pianist Kyra Steckeweh and filmmaker Tim van Beveren for several years. Their joint debut film "Women Composers" (DE 2018, 95 min.) met with great interest at home and abroad. It received several awards in the USA and was awarded the OPUS KLASSIK for best audiovisual production in Germany in 2020.

    Bullshit. The air that goes into the cabin are bleed from the engines but it actually passes through filters before reach the passangers and crew compartment.

      @Henrique Notam: there are no filters that are capable of filtering out what we are talking here. There are aircraft that do not take breathing air form the engines, such as B787 and A320neo with the new Liebherr ECS. Filters are installed for recirculating air for the cabin. These are HEPA filters again not capable of filtering out those compounds. Inform yourself next time before posting in harsh language.

      the seals do actually leak constantly as "by design". Minimal amounts, but this is measurable and has been measured. See the PhD thesis of Caspar Faltland Solbu from Norway who conducted measurements on behalf of a Norwegian government institution back in 2011 and 2012...

    Bleed Air is a variety of sources and destination for air that leaves the compressor upstream of the nominal compressor outlet.Bleed air system can be used for internal cooling of the engine, cross-starting another engine, engine and air frame anti-icing, cabin pressurisation, pneumatic actuators, air-driven motors, pressurising the hydraulic reservoir etc...

    Sehr geehrter Hert van Beveren. Ich finde ihr Engagement sehr bewundernswert, leider habe ich das Gefühl das sich seit ihrer Podiumsdiskussion im letzten Jahr nicht viel verändert hat. Ich möchte sie fragen warum man ihren Film nirgendwo sieht? Das wirft fragen bezüglich der Ernsthaftigkeit dieses Unterfangens auf. Es ist ein wichtiges Thema, nur wie sollen Menschen darauf aufmerksam werden sie davon nichts mitbekommen. Wundern würde es mich nicht das der Film im öffentlichen Fernsehen verboten würde, aber auf TH-cam sollte es doch eigentlich möglich sein. Machen sie doch mal eine Umfrage, fragen sie Reisende wo die Kabinenluft her kommt. 80 % meiner Kollegen wussten es nicht! Wo kann ich ihren Film sehen? Auch im Interesse davon Reden zu können.

    @speedbird: wrong, not in 1994. the spoilers were linked to the logic. the interim procedure until a software change made it possible to deploy the spoilers manually was the famous "partial lift dump". Spoilers could be deployed only in Flaps 3 not with full flaps. But as it is said in the film: man is able to learn and engineers also and logics can be changed... ;-)

    I flew in C-130 aircraft for about 8 years and the smell of bleed air was a constant. I remember a few years ago crew members flying the new C-130J models were getting sick and after much study they found a very small valve made from inferior materials that had corroded allowing leaks in the system. Once found it was fixed throughout the fleet and the problems disappeared.

    It's disconcerting the arrogance of the old Airbus chief.They want(ed) to be so technologically adavanced but the chief showed exactly the kind of behaviour that killed thousands of lives in aviation history. Imagine this, the chief is the captain when a FO reports to him a problem or a situation. The captain replies: " stupid" "that's stupid". And then they crash. What is stupid? Or we should say, who is the stupid? It's really unbelievable.He has no information yet from the engineers but he already states that the whole thing is just stupid.. Well it's not stupid at all, and maybe due this attitude many lives were lost( i.e. the A330 test flight..)

    "No accident or incident directly related to design deficiencies .." How can he say that?? After every crash there was a software change related to vital systems. This is not related to design deficiences? They want to sell planes and that's ok, and maybe now airbuses are safe, but it was not so at the beginning of the 320 career, And I would not like test the aircraft with passengers on board, only to find out that the software needed to be changed again...

    737's have crashed far more than an airbus a320

      You can only compare the ones that were made after 1988 (when the A320 came out). All planes from the 60's and 70's were much more dangerous.

      Majority of the 737 crashes have been with the older models. The new 737 NGs have much better safety record then A320. Plus the 737s are flying around from 60s and even from the 60s standard it was a safe aircraft.

    +iame4793 because the computer doesn't fly the plane, the pilot does. The computer isn't the pilot in command, its more like a second copilot, the pilot made a mistake of flying too low.The airbus is a whole lot different than any other aircraft to fly, its style is different so the pilot has to learn it better. If you look at most of the airbus crashes, most are done with people who are new to the aircraft, thats not a failiure with the aircraft, its a failiure in the training for the new plane. Its like flying a 747 after flying cessnas all your life. Its a whole different kind of flying.

      And exactly there is a fundamental problem and misunderstanding of the issue: AI was selling this aircraft with statements such as "you need less training instead of more". Every complex machine and piece of equipment requires appropriate training and instructions and this has been a problem, specially with AI and the introduction. So why is it that after each and every accident there have been changes to the softwares? Well, some may call that "improvement". But think just for a few minutes about Air France 447. That was not back in the nineties, this was more "recent". And what were these pilots not able to cope with because they never received a proper training about...?

      The problem with the Airbus is that it sees Pilots as the root cause of all the crashes. Whenever there is an Aircrash everyone blames pilot,from people to media every one is chattering the same thing "pilot error Pilot error pilot error." But it is the Pilots whose presence of mind saves many lives on board. In case of United 232 the DC- 10 lost all its Hydraulics and flight controls.The plane crash landed but still many people survived, all because of the skills of the pilot. The Airbus recently showcased "Concept Plane" without a Cockpit !!!!

    What arrogance to think that computer logic circa 1987 could outthink humans. Have you seen AI lately? it's still in its infancy, and it's 2013. The computer had a simple binary formula for deploying spoilers and when it wasn't fulfilled it couldn't see in any shades of gray. I think modern airbuses are far better, and Boeing still take the philosophy that while humans don't like repetitive tasks, computers aren't even close when it comes to creative problem solving.

    I think that this film was relevant when it was made but today the system is much better known so that the system protection helps much more. Remember that there have been other aircraft with fully manual spoilers that have crashed as well. it isn't just an Airbus phenomena. And the Double engine push button problem isn't as bad either. It could easily have been missed when making a QRH as well. I bet that some 737 QRH has missed something similar as well. Good job finding that glitch though!
