oh thats what the video was about. I was confused for a sec. Blackwashing is still as bad as whitewashing. The genshin community from Sumeru to Natlan rn? completely unacceptable. So many people complain about white washing, then some decide to black wash them to "make things right" when they're just being hypocritical.

all people need to do is leave others alone. They complaining at the VA in an anime they love so much not realising that bro could just not VA the next season and ruin it for everyone including themselves.

The problem is the double standard, the black va is only okay with blackwashing characters he’s not okay with other race swaps.

About the whole rings of power black elf/dwarf discussion I've always been on the side of black dwarves are fine but black elf goes explicitly against the source material as Tolkien elves are described as whiter than kaki shorts and sandals

I mean... black fans have so few characters of color that they can aesthetically relate to as it is - and even fewer that they can be proud of. So, when fan art is created in which a black character's complexion is lightened to look racially ambiguous, or just straight up melanin deleted, it's like, 'damn, you won't even let us have this one, huh?' But, in order to make the inverse argument about Japanese Anime characters being re-imagined as black people, it requires you to throw out so much context that it almost comes off as manufactured outrage. Is that really something Japanese people are threatened by - being marginalized in Anime? Black Anime fans have so few characters they can visually identify with, the only way to see themselves represented as main protagonists in a genre they love is to draw alternate reality "what-if" fan art. Given that Anime is a product of Japanese culture, the creators have no responsibility/obligation to make their stories - many of which are set in Japan - more racially inclusive. Black Anime fans understand this to be a valid and acceptible point. What's the harm in letting them create some racially re-imagined fan art as a consolation to that fact? Edit - Just wanted to add a note about the topic of non-black actors voicing black characters. As long as the actor isn't putting on a "blaccent" or doing some sort of parodied version of what they think a black character sounds like, I don't care who is doing the voice as long as it fits the character. That's just another case of manufactured outrage, in my opinion.

I think it’s totally ok to swap Okaruns race because his va is black. In most other cases I would disagree, but as an artist, I like it when people make characters match their vas :)

Why Americans have that much problem with races? God damn. It's just a fucking drawing. If you search just a bit on internet you will find fan art so much worse than a "race swap". I understand the Japanese side. But even that is too much. Voice actor are that, actors. Their race is not important, their voices and the quality of their interpretation is that matter. Your voice can interpret whatever you want, that's why we love animation. Everything is possible in animation. People and stories are just limited by our imagination, not some cultural or race barrier. Is just a drawing man.
