Ski manufacturing companies didn’t want the competition at the time. They had 100% market share and they didn’t want to lose any of that. The culture war is never the most important thing. It always comes down to money, control, etc.
2:05 i hope he managed to hang on to that classic Burton Performer and it didnt find its way to a landfill. if he did hang on to it that was probably one of his best investments from an ROI perspective. a new one in 1983 wouldve cost you around $38 from my research, today the cheapest ones are like $1,250 with most falling in the $3,000-$5,000 range. thats like a 5,000%+ return on investment
This is what a cuckold in the 80s looks like before graduating to the weak chin cover-up facial hair yet still sporting that I love cock Freddie Mercury mustache and glasses.
I skiied for 25 years then started boarding 6 years ago. Skiers are by far more dangerous than boarders. Hands down!! They ski too fast, too close, don’t give downhill the right of way, cut ppl off, out of control, don’t slow down in “ slow” zones. Snowboarders are usually younger but more courteous.
I am giving up skiing after this season due to all the out of control snow boarders. There are too many collisions now, some fatal and almost all the fault of boarders. That sound they make coming down at 60, 70 and 80 mph means they don’t care if they cripple or kill somebody, including themselves.
Skiers are liberal, snowboarders are conservative, theyre like "ski resorts shouldnt have so much power. All people are created equal and deserve to be free, fuck big ski resorts, give the power back to the people" 😁 love it
Alpine Meadows was a great place to ski in the 80's and 90's. They were the last place in CA to allow snowboarding, in 1997. Like many others at the time. I thought it was a gigantic mistake. My son was 13 in 1997, and was already an expert skier, with 10 years of experience. He took to boarding like a duck to water, and within a season or two, was passing up dear old dad, even though I was a youthful and athletic 45. Twenty-five years later, it's the same story, even though he now only gets to ride 3 or 4 days a year, and I regularly get in 10X that in retirement. Ahaaaaah, youth!
Snowboarders always falling and running into people, and sliding all the way down the slope when they fall lol, seen boarders slide for 500+ yards many times hahaha, sketchy fun
Our local hill wouldn't allow snowboarding and would punch our ticket for catching even the smallest of air. (Banned me for a week for doing a helicopter). Now the same place has a whole fun park and my youngest is an instructor there. How times change
I remember first seeing Snowboarding in the late 90s. Yeah, teenage kids who were selfish jackasses and after they wiped out would sit in the middle of the trail smoking a bowl with their friends. Simple solution. Designate a snowboard hill and separate them from skiers.
Well coming from the skiers' perspective, I guess very few people back in the day can really snowboard, so they were just watching a bunch of jerrys up and down the mountain and thought that's what "snowboarders" gonna do all day on their beloved mountains 😂. To be fair I might be scared too
look at where we are at now :) -- Snowboarder
Wonder what year this resort cowed to the boarders and let them ride.
Skies vs Urchins
this is really just skiers being boomers
The e-bikes of the past.
More idiots
as a skier, I would've spent more time bitching about having to sidestep up a hill to get on the lift and less time bitching about snowboarders
In 1985 ski areas could afford to be restrictive toward snowboards.... Today the could not survive without them.....

And for a while now, snowboarding has been in the Olympics. Nobody likes change or innovation. Bloody sisys
Can't we all just get a bong👍🇺🇸
Did everyone in 1985 suck this bad at snowboarding or did they just happen to find a really bad bunch of snowboarders?
It had only just started being a thing so yeah most people sucked

The irony that the spot patroller douche is standing now has the North Shore’s best terrain park lol.
Maybe it originated in California but we had mono ski before that or do i remember it wrong?
There is a reason why snowboarders don’t like turd skiers.
Snowboarders flip off skiers too much..
This is what a cuckold in the 80s looks like before graduating to the weak chin cover-up facial hair yet still sporting that I love cock Freddie Mercury mustache and glasses.
Snowboarders are like cyclists, nothing but a pest
No helmets anywhere in this video.

What mountain is this? It has to be either Mt Seymour or Grouse Mountain.

wack shit yo
they thought snowboarders were going to kill the ski industry when it has really been Vail Resorts the whole time!
This is one of those videos that didn’t age well 😂😂
🏂 snowboarders are a menace. More bad apples than good
Interesting what would they say about Skii Cycles which are gaining popularity nowadays
its funny how snowboarding has taken over the scene hahah what a square goof that flake is!
skis are for (the british word for cigarette)
Skiers are liberal, snowboarders are conservative, theyre like "ski resorts shouldnt have so much power. All people are created equal and deserve to be free, fuck big ski resorts, give the power back to the people" 😁 love it
TROLL mode on: ski is right wing and snowboard revolution (was) left wing ! F/O conservators of all times !
Man 1985 doesn't seem that long ago. But damn it is really is
This aged well like fine wine.

Snowboarders really fought for their rights against the skiers establishment.
I got a similar vibe when I started riding my lawn-mower downhill off-pissed ;)
Snowboards still suck
2:49 Wow that is ironic
When I started Boarding in 1992 in Switzerland, there were no issues with riding in a resort. I guess Americans just tend to discriminate minorities 😊
When… when did skis have breaks?
Gather ‘round, Jimmy nine fingers is gonna give us a safety lesson.
I’m totally calling them skiboards from now on 😂
Pizza

I've liked both since I was a kid. I'm both a one and two planker wanker
