Whats the problem?

90S is disassembled upside down, there is access from the bottom battery compartment. Take the battery base out & you should be able to access screws from bottom which will enable you to lift the whole top part. Contact us for pictures

Could be number of things - Fibre cleave lenght is short, cleave fibre with longer lenght - Fibre bieng placed incorrectly, place fibre cleaved end between the blue vgrove and electrode - V Groove dirty and causing fibre to lift -

Heat should turn on automatically when you put fibre in the heater. Change settings to Auto so you dont need to press heat button

Ribbon splicers are generally not recommded to be used as a replacement for single fibre fusion splicing because different fibre count requires different ARC Power adjustment. Its better to have a cheaper core alignment fusion splicer handy if you are doing a mix of ribbon & single fibre splicing. If you want to use 70R for both single and ribbon you will need to do ARC calibration each time you switch from ribbon to single or from single to ribbon fibres.

JILONG KL-21C Cleaver. This is one of the best chinese cleavers you can buy for ribbon splicing. It fits all holders from Sumitomo, Fitel, Fujikura

This machine needed service and ARC Calibration, hence the higher loss. Generally Fujikura machines provides the best loss estimation of all 3 Japanese machines but you are right the Sumitomo machines perform much better overall, they have better ergonomics and handling. The new Nanotune feature of Sumitomo Type 72C+ and Type 82C+ is very handy and saves time because the machine takes care of any bad cleaves.

@@FluxNet I actually don't need to carry more than a Fitel Ninja or the Sumitomo QH201e-VS for daily use. At some point in time, I will have a broken fibre that needs core alignment. I can borrow a Sumi Q102-CA+ from my office. The Ninja and splicer is set for with universal chucks and the QH201e-VS has removeable chucks. Using the FC-8R cleaver and the proper associated chucks, the Sumitomo just doesn't make a mistake.

@@Todd.T FC-8R is truly one of the best cleavers produced to date.

Good Practise to brush from the edge using finger tip, to seperate the fibres which stick together after alcohol wipe. Note that only the edge of fibres are touched/brushed which will be cleaved off into fibre scrap bin anyways. The finger does not touch the part of fibres which are going to be spliced.

Contamination in the v-groove of the splicer is the single most common source of high loss for the splicing. This is especially problematic when splicing with a fixed v-groove fusion splicer like the 70R, 60R or 50R. Environmental contamination, such as dust, dirt, and fiber coating debris, as well as, the silica deposits generated during the fusion process eventually find their way to the surface of the v-groove. This contamination will offset the fibers and degrade performance. To help control this problem, a disciplined cleaning regimen and specific tooling is required to ensure the splice is right the first time. You can also clean the V-groove with a cotton bud with alcohol/isopropyl. Never use anything sharp or hard brushes for cleaning V-grooves.
