Doing gods work!
We had that in our band too. I learned rhythm guitar from South of Heaven in the 6th grade before I heard Pantera. So I was team Slayer and my drummer was all Pantera. Dime is my favorite guitarist though.
Steffen has been stealing songwriting credits and projecting himself as the mastermind of the band for many years. This is simply a new low for him, but not an unexpected one, unfortunately.
@E-flatMajor I have heard that before. I'm just surprised he did it so blatantly and obviously. It has tarnished Obscura legacy. I wonder if Nuclear Blast will pull the album?
@@mattmillerguitar I hope they do. Hard to say what will happen exactly, although Christian is apparently going to pursue legal action, as he's gotten to listen to more of the album and says there's a lot more plagiarism incoming. Nuclear Blast is a big label, which can be good or bad, depending on who in there handles this. On the one hand, they might go "well, we're big, so we're just going to put our weight behind the band/album and go ahead with it", on the other they may go "well, we're big, so we don't need this shameless, fraudulent fool in our roster" and axe the album and perhaps even the band. As for Steffen/Obscura, their legacy has been tarnished for a long time for those in the know. The way he treated Tom Geldschläger during the Akroasis cycle was basically as bad as this, and that whole album owes its idiosyncratic sound to Tom's uniquely talented style, as well as his fretless guitar work. In a just world, that album would've been a fantastic springboard for Tom's career, instead it was a source of defamation and nightmarish persecution thanks to SK's lies and distortions. SK has had the gall to state that Tom never even really contributed parts for it, which is just an insult both to Tom and the intelligence of his band's listeners, since the fretless parts are literally there to be heard. Back in the Omnivium/Cosmogenesis days, he was a big baby over Hannes' compositional prowess and productivity, which eventually forced the classic line-up away from the band. Dilluvium was composed almost entirely by the Obsidious trio, and Steffen never even bothered to learn how to play most of those tracks. He's sloppy live, often skips playing the few lead parts that are assigned to him, forgets his own lyrics, both their words and timing. Actually, even lyrically he's always had help, especially from V.Santura, their old producer, who often arranged Steffen's bare prose into some sort of presentable verse. Pretty sure most of the vocoder parts have also been done by V.Santura. Not sure about the two more recent albums. Steffen's reputation should've been trashed long ago. Unfortunately he's the bandowner, and many people just take his word for granted when he gives interviews to the press presenting himself as the mastermind of the band, when he's always ridden on the compositional work of his more talented peers.
@E-flatMajor that's crazy stuff. Tom is a great guitarist and Obsidious rules. Hannes is a great musician, and I really liked his EP. I know Christian isn't going to release his EP, which is a bummer. Christian is a friend, and I was going to ask him about his plans if I see him at NAMM. I am signed to Nuclear Blast subsidiary Blood Blast, and I know that the label is now a part of a conglomerate Believe music. Who knows if they will take action against Steffan? I appreciate you sharing the information about the inner workings of Obscura. Most of that I didn't know. I was wondering why the first lineup disbanded.
@@mattmillerguitar There's an interview Hannes gave to sick drummer mag shortly after alkaloid was formed where he explains some of the happenings during the omnivium era. You can find it easily by searching "Hannes Grossman sick drummer", it's about halfway through that particular issue.
Great job. Annoys me a bit how underrated Andy is, guy is one of the best. Chuck knew.
Andy is awesome and he sounds just as good live as he does on the record. Thanks!
Megadeth would be awesome with James, I take James over Broderick.
@jacktodd3439 that would be sick. James has great feel and technique. Chris is also great and definitely did a good job. Did you see the excerpt from Marty's book about him recommending James?
No I have not read Martys book but that's great and honestly I never knew James was on Daves list, but ofc he was! As for Chris Broderick, obviously extremely talented but for me he did nit fit Megadeth, I know it's not only my opinion.
@jacktodd3439 I think Chris did a good job playing Marty's solos. He wasn't the most creative guy.
@@jacktodd3439 James shared that part of the book on his socials.
Appreciate interview, thanks.
@@jacktodd3439 thanks for watching cheers!
I thought even A Valediction was lackluster compared to their previous efforts
I agree with that. However, A Valediction saw the return of Christian which is always a good thing. He elevates every band that he plays in.
Alex Bouks. He's as fake as they come. Will attempt to consider otherwise though. He's a coward as well.
I still stand by my opinion. The song is really good but the production/mixing is off compared to their albums previous. Take for example the first solo. The whammy bar part goes WAY past were it should and sounds off then drowns the vocals. I dont know. Again song is good but the production is lacking.
I think the sound quality is great. However, i did notice a few things about the editing as well. The punch in parts of the solo had some bad editing. It didn't sound as though it was seamless. Thanks for watching and the comment. Cheers!
@ you’re welcome!
Remember these are singles, most likely rushed out, will likely have another mixing down before the album comes out
@ hopefully because their next single drop today and while this song itself was absolutely amazing. I really couldn’t stand listening to it because of the production.
@@shredfactor7 how do you feel about the plagiarism accusations? I haven't listened to the new track yet
I remember when i first seen the fatal portrait album cover back in 86. I was drawn to it. Been a fan ever since. Mercyful Fate and King Diamond is in a league of their own. True talented artists and i respect everything they have done. My only comment (which means absolutely nothing) i wish the video producers or video production was done by same people that produced ATTIC videos. ATTIC has that dark satanic visual energy. The Hound Of Heaven video is very well done. I can only imagine if King Diamond worked with the same video production.
I think the video wasn't terrible. However, I don't know if this would be the song I would want to be the lead single. Thanks for watching and the comment. Cheers!
Your guitar looks so nice.
Thanks dude! It's my signature model from Siggi Braun. www.zenrokguitars.com/artists/
After waiting this long for a new album this is underwhelming. Boring…. Hopefully he has better stuff he is working on.
@GilaMonster971 I agree this is not on par with his previous work. Maybe the new album is better than we think? KK's Priest was a pleasant surprise. Have you heard that?
Best fucking solo ever
ITP is a great album and I agree this is one of the best solos ever! Cheers!
Creatively peaked in 1990
@dougyoung4790 Welcome Home, Eye, and Conspiracy are all great albums and Abigail of course. That is 4 of the best heavy metal albums of all time. The new stuff isn't on that level.

Saw him live back in October. Last legs my ass….he’s amazing still.
King was the best show I have heard and seen. I agree he is still operating at a high level.
Holy shit!!!!! Beautiful!!
Thanks Sauron I appreciate it. Paul elevated the entire death metal genre with his playing and influenced an entire generation of guitar players. That includes many of us. Cheers!
Dude you nail that
@MickJigger thanks dude! Paul is one of the most underrated guitarist out there. His contributions to extreme metal are often overlooked. I can hear his influence all over the place. Especially in a lot of tech death bands like Spawn of Possession, Necrophagist, The Faceless etc.
@mattmillerguitar i saw necrophagist cephalic carnage cattle decapitation and a few others at the first summer slaughter can't remember what year it was but yeah man keep shredding dude your playing is phenomenal never heard anyone nail that song note for note good work bro
@@MickJigger Dude that is awesome you saw that tour! Was it the Summer Slaughter? Also I really appreciate the comment about the solo. Thanks man! Cheers!
@mattmillerguitar it was indeed summer slaughter the faceless was there also
@@MickJigger that's awesome you saw that show. What a lineup!
He’s used organs long before ghost came around.
Right!!
Absolutely but the section of Spider Lilly kind of has that Scooby-Doo vibe
Ghost sounds a bit like King Diamond/Mercyful Fate not the other way around :)
Definitely true! I miss spoke. Although this track had a strong Scooby Doo vibe
I really liked it. And I appreciate that it sounds like King Diamond. They didn't modernize their sound just to try to stay current.
It sounds like King but it's definitely some of the less interesting music he has released. It seemed a little cookie-cutter to me. It can't be Abigail, Conspiracy, The Eye, or Welcome Home all the time. I was expecting more out of the music considering how strong his vocals are.
Nice review. I’m not sure what everyone who is hating wants from a 68 year old heart patient. I’d love someone to name another 68 year old heart patient that can replicate a King Diamond album. Phenomenal song for what he’s been through.
The King is on another level. The same level as Bruce and Halford. The vocals are great i was just wanting a little more out of the instruments.
It’s boring plain and simple. I won’t excuse that due to a “heart condition”…boring is boring whether or not he’s dying.
@GilaMonster971 its not his best work but King is still making music and his live show is second to none. Cheers!
Love King!
He is the King for reason! Cheers!
He's 68 years old and his voice is still as haunting as ever 🤘 I've been a fan since the mid 80's and am going to see him again at Sweden Rock Festival next year 🤘👑🤘
King is still operating at a high level and he still has it. That's awesome you will be seeing him af Sweden Rock. I was lucky enough to see him a few years ago. Have you seen him live before?
@mattmillerguitar. Yes I have seen him twice with his solo act and one time with Mercyful Fate 🤘😁🤘
King has been performing a long time. He is probably near his end.
He could be, but his live show is second to none

Its brutal blackend death metal.
@@MRSludgedude I don't know about the brutality of it. It's definitely blackened death but leaning more black metal imo.
@mattmillerguitar they kind of call all those black death bands brutal black death lol, there is your really crazy black dearh like portal and dragged into sunlight, then war metal. So black death has basically 3 micro styles. Man I'm a nerd 🤣
@@MRSludgedude hey dude you know your stuff. When i think of black death i think Belphagor. Nerd on !

Kind of sounds more like blackened death metal to me or one of those bands who just play black and death metal and dont mix the two
It definitely has some death metal undertones. Kind of like Belphagor lite. Thanks for watching and the comment.
@@mattmillerguitar more heavy than them.
@MRSludgedude agreed. Definitely more death metal.
I'd say it's too catchy to be BM. :D I like the genre and I really really liked this song, I just think BM is the music orcs from Isengard would play by the campfire and Scour is more like Leatherface-heavy. :P
Orcs from Isengard is a great analogy. Scour has some death metal influence. Kind of like they added some Immolation in there. Thanks for watching and the comment. Cheers!
I like the scour stuff, I’m not a big fan of black metal in general I find it fairly cheesy but anything with Phil and I’m interested
There is some really good black metal out there like Immortal. If you haven't heard them check out the song One by One. Cheers!
@ I had a few immortal records back in the day, I heard a few tunes off Abbath’s solo stuff that I thought was decent, but black metal in general, like power metal is a little to cosplayish for me, not trying to be rude just not my thing
@@WarriorEsoteric I hear ya dude. The theatrics are a little to hard get past. Thanks for watching and the comment. Cheers!
How Viking Crown should've sounded.
I think Scour is much better than Viking Crown in my opinion. Not to say that Viking Crown is bad. Thanks for watching and the comment. Cheers!
The song is about either the ups and downs of his battle with cancer, or his career.
@@MarkSolley that's a cool message either way. Thanks for watching and the comment. Cheers!
I am pretty underwhelmed by the single as I was with their last album, despite having some legendary members back at that point. Diluvium was their last high point for me imho
@klausherbert3040 Silver Lining was definitely a simpler song. I agree that the highwater mark was their earlier albums but A Valediction was a good album. Thanks for watching and the comment. Cheers!
