The Queen, The Royal Nazi and impossible Forgiveness | The Crown Season 2 Episode 6
มุมมอง 11K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
Can you forgive a Nazi? Does he show remorse? Does that even matter? In the mid 50s David the Duke of Windsor, formerly known as Edward VIII King of the United Kingdom, was exposed as a Nazi sympathizer during the Second World War by the release of the "Marburg files". How Queen Elizabeth II reacted to this revelation is shown in the episode "Vergangenheit" of the Netflix series "The Crown".

    Forgiveness and reconciliation are two completely different things. She can forgive while still keeping him outside the family and the country without giving him another chance for the stability of the nation

    Like many others, I wonder what would have happened if Edward had never abdicated. The simplest departure point, I understand, is that he never meets Wallace Simpson. If I'm remembering this correctly, their meeting was pure chance. A few minutes difference might have changed history. Then again, I think the Establishment would have still sought a way to oust him or curtail his authority.

    This dual between the two brothers of the Kingsguard. Was the first thing mentioned about the Civil War in a Game of Thrones book. Before the blacks and greens, there was this dual between the two brothers.

    I love this episode! I would like to know how true the Duke Windsor was portrayed, meaning did he really act like this. He had an excuse for everything! My grandparents told me about his love for Nazis and they called Wallis a well. You can guess I won't repeat the word.😊❤

    I agree he should have never been allowed to be king considering he knew about the concentration camps.think about how many people died in those camps.HeShould have been tried as a war crimes criminal because of what he knew.

    I see a difference between personal forgiveness which as Rev Graham pointed out Jesus demands of us, and the Queen's duty to her people as sovereign. David was her favourite uncle, and she wanted so much to forgive him, but couldn't. But even if she had found it in her heart to forgive this wrong doing, I mean let's face it, Edward VIII was nothing but a traitor to his country, that didn't mean she should give him any kind of position representing the British government. If he had had his way, her father would have been deposed, and him brought back on to the throne, by the Führer. Such an act of treachery, (regardless of personal feelings) meant he should never be welcome in his country again. And his niece was not just anybody. She was the monarch of the country, and titular head of the Church of England. I agree with our young German friend here. This was indeed the best episode of the series, because it shows the conflict between her Christian values, love for her family, and duty towards her countrymen.

    A young German should know the history of Edward's relationship.with Hitler. There is no doubt that Hitler would put him back.on the throne, thus the Marbourg files. He was a traitor in every sense.

    I love this scene of the Queen Elizabeth II, to give him hell for him expecting anything after what he put everyone including her country where he betrayed his own country. I loved her for the determination to speak the truth to him. Wonderfully done!

    As portrayed (& as I have generally imagined) this was a terribly difficult decision for Her Majesty. She must have felt torn apart by all the conflicts, but the Crown had to be upheld & in that she did her duty as anointed Sovereign. The uncrowned King brought most of his troubles upon himself & his family members who remained loyal to the ideas of their duties were the ones who paid the dearest price.

    I agree with you. It's not that I don't want to save the council, but you only have one shot at this, everything you've done and been through has led to this crucial moment. You NEED to take Sovereign down. Highest odds for success requires sacrifice and Shepherd is prepared to do that. Great video bro! 💪

  • @kamenballer
    @kamenballer 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Of course Shepard doesn't really care about those fools, they're just a waste of time that whaetever your report every mission Council will just ignore and don't believe it so it's better for them to die and let the Alliance destroy Sovereign. And to the one here saying that Soveregin is just one threat then who cares Sovereign is the "Threat" that time and destroying it is the Priority. It's like saying there a robber inside your house but you choose not to call the cops because you believe there will be 2 or more robbers that will enter your house the next week. 😅

    I mean for me I went with hold back until the main threat is open. While destroying a few Geth dreadnaughts would be tactically sound and lessen the Citadale Fleets problems, it would be rendered mute when sovereign opened the relay.

  • @TheEyered
    @TheEyered 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You are correct here. Option 3 is the only way to go. Shepherd doesn't know this is a game and saving the council will still result it the win. They have to put everything into killing that Reaper. Too much rests on it.

  • @crankyeldergod709
    @crankyeldergod709 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    While Sovereign is obviously the immediate, galaxy-ending threat, Shepard is well aware that Sovereign is just one among many. This is only one battle, and you have to carefully manage resources -- including the council -- for a long war. Shepard is well aware that the reaper war against the Protheans took centuries, and council leadership and racial cohesion will be critical in the current cycle. There's some great moral nuance here, I think the real problem is that this nuance is lost, and the decision is ultimately inconsequential.

    • @RemnantsofCourage
      @RemnantsofCourage 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You raise a good point which I haven't considerd but I suppose the question of racial cohesion plays a bigger role when it comes to the appointment of the new council (if you don't save them) and I don't think it's up for discussion that every species should keep their seat at the council.

    • @mistercomment1622

      It is definitely NOT inconsequential! The whole ME 2 game has a complete different political situation

    • @crankyeldergod709

      @@mistercomment1622 In ME2, that different political situation has little impact on the story. In ME3, the choice is ignored and Udina is just assigned the role because the plot needs him there.
