I bought a fake Neumann TLM 103 microphone on ebay. I explain how I figured out it was a fake, and I show how others can tell if they purchased one as well.

I'm here because I also just purchased a fake TLM 103 on eBay. Very hard to tell. Mine actually had a serial number on it. The give away for me was the weight. An authentic 103 should be around 450 grams. Mine was 370g.
Thanks for the additional info! At the time I made this video I didn't own a real TLM 103 so I couldn't compare the weights.
Nice! Too bad you had to trade it in. 2022 Taos were heavy with issues.
Yeah, I loved the look and the ride of the Taos, but the acceleration hesitation, and all the random electrical glitches were just to much. The instrument cluster would lock up on different random screens, and even shutting off the car and turning it back on wouldn't fix it. The radio would black out. Sometimes I would hit the gas and the car wouldn't go anywhere for 3 to 4 seconds. The windows rolled themselves down in the middle of a rainstorm while parked in my driveway. Lots of people on the Taos forum all had similar problems, and the people that took theirs to the dealer to get fixed were stuck without their cars for over 6 months waiting on computer chips.
That's looks like a fake a mile away. The box and the microphone are dead give aways.

I bought mine from Amazon, everything on there is 100% real, people buy off eBay thinking they're spending less money but in the long run the item is not real, I bought from eBay few times in the past & alot of clone items were fantastic tho, it's about quality if it works great it's all good,
Clone items equals counterfit. Even if they work perfectly, and use the exact same parts, clone and counterfit items use clone, counterfit, and recycled parts, so life expectancy is deminished, and the performance may not be within the original engineers specifcations. Plus you're paying to reward someone who is stealing designs and engineering from someone else that did the research and development. Even if clones sounded 100% the exact same as the original, they stole the design, and all of the creativity and trial and error to create said product. If you can't afford the original products, save up and support them by buying used, not counterfit.
Check the address on the pkg's label, Garmany instead of Germany. 😂

No. I had to many problems with the Taos and ended up trading it in on a Jeep Wrangler.

Did you end up lifting yours? Im thinking about it and the kit is pretty cheap.
I purchased the lift kit for it, but I ended up trading it in before the lift arrived.
Sometimes with counterfeit sellers they give the refund and then dont give a address to send back the item because that gives there location to the police who you might have contacted. The loss of one product to save the rest of the operation from being found by police is usually the way.
A good way to tell a fake is if you bought it on Temu for $5.
Thanks for this buddy - also - you might want to check out your settings in either your recording or edit of the audio - because it sounds like you recorded in stereo and it is a pain to listen to with headphones on! respecfully. Have a good one.

Does this microphone have yo come with that wooden box.. A dealer is selling the tlm 103 studio set and it dorsnt come with this box though. Im so confused
No, it does not have to come with a wooden box. The studio set comes in a cardboard box, with the microphone on the left, and a shock mount on the right. It does not appear to include the hard mount or the wooden case.

I have a question I was going buy one from someone and it have the same case but I do see a serial number on the bottom where the sticker of the mic is I was hesitated because of the box
Check the wooden box and make sure it has dovetail construction. It's also possible that the person purchased a replacement box for a real mic. I would ask if they would let you take the microphone to be verified before purchase.

@@Shawn_Keys I'm not confident I could ID a fake through email photos. I would hate to lead you wrong. If I was in your shoes I would ask to take the microphone to Guitar Center or some place similar that has a lot of experience with them.

From electronics, to auto parts, to the fashion industry, to pharmaceuticals. I've seen it all. Criminals and nothing is done about it!! Yeah, you need to be careful of these imitations from slippery scammers. But I believe all Neumann products are an imitation of their former glory ever since they joined the Sennheiser group back in 1991.

Did you make it without any underbody damage? I have one 4MOTION vw but only has 6.6 inches of ground clearance, did you lift yours?
Mine is not lifted yet, but after I ran this trail I needed new tires because one of the factory tires got a sidewall puncture. Since I was buying newer larger tires I also ordered a lift kit, but it hasn't arrived yet. As far as under body damage I did scrape a lot, and I have some small dents in the floor pans, but nothing tore off and it still drives just fine.

@@RichardVac I have 255/55R18's on my Taos now, but I would recommend 1 size smaller. I barely rub when turning sharply or hit big dips in the road. I used wheel spacers to get the tires to clear the struts and reused the factory rims. I did buy the H&R 1.5" lift springs, but I haven't installed them yet. Hopefully once installed I wont have rubbing issues anymore.
@@inthemood6781 Thanks! I also recommend the Burger throttle tuner it will bring alive it improves acceleration, it makes it so responsive and quick, it costs $200 and easy to install, plug and play
Does it matter about the spacing of the complete words on the black strip? I bought a silver one with the same box
The easiest way to tell is that there won't be a serial number, and the wooden box won't have dovetailed joint construction.
@@necrotat2 the Neumann has a ser # but mines came with no wooden box just a silver mount and cardboard box... The spacing is what's concerning me. Going to a guitar center to compare the authentic showcase they have vs mine

I bought a Apple device on eBay, then discovered it to be counterfeit. Received a full refund and then threw item away. What’s the seller going to do, he’s dealing in fraud. Never heard from him again.
