DIY CNC Plasma Cutter Part 3. JD's Garage CNC Plasma cutter on steroids
OK Part 3 of this CNC plasma Cutter build series.
In todays episode I
- Wire up the electronics
- Explain the issue I had with me ESP32 controller
_-Install the x and Y axis cable chains
- Run all the shielded cables
- Power up the control box
- Test the stepper motor drivers using the Rotary axis drive, also explain the rotary axis belt configuration
- Water pan arrived so I slid it into position
- I explain some more opportunities to improve the original JD's Garage plans to make your plasma cutter better/larger cutting area without you paying any more.
Hope you enjoy the content.

I put a statesman aircon into a HZ 253 wagon back about 1995. It was a bugger of a job, In had to enlarge a space in the firewall and change the cable control system to vacuum. The worst part was removing and replacing the dash. It worked really well for years, and then I took the car off the road. I still have it, and having retired I have started to restore it. Have just finished replacing all the brake stuff and am working on the fuel system now. The aircon had the old gas in it, so that will have to be upgraded too. Lots of fun though. How long across do you think I can go using that belt?
@@cutweldngrind well my table is 1400mm wide x 1500mm long. Minimal flex in the belt. There are wider gear drives and wider belts on the market. If tou go wider you will have to add an extra bearing or two to each guide roller assembly, depending on width. It's a cheap option using the belts, a ball screw would be optimum I would think, but adds alot to the cost.
@@SullysRodskustoms. Thanks, 1500mm is a good size for sure. I don't have a 3d printer so I either have to buy one of buy the printed kit. Thanks again.
@cutweldngrind my cut with doesn't take a standard metric width sheet of steel. From memory my sheet size can only be 1130mm wide x 1000mm long. So make yours 1500 mm wide outside the y axis tubes. Then a full width sheet can fit.
I have a crossfire with XL kit and thinking on building the JD XL table now. Cool video.
@@cutweldngrind thanks, just ask if you need more info.
Awesome build mate, I'm planning on getting their xl plans when the metric is ready, with the tensioner could you not just trim down the part you slide where the slotted holes are to give you another few mil?
oh and thought about grommet to plug the hole in the x axis tube/
@@2874mattm I thought about a grommet but the x axis is a really close fit and will contact it.
@@2874mattm not sure I understand what you mean.
@SullysRodskustoms. I cant share a photo, but I meant the tensioner part that slides with the long slots. trim the right end (behind the m8 jam nut) a bit to allow the tensioner to loosen more so you'll have more travel to take up slack. On second look it look like the slots are bottomed out on the bolts.
@@2874mattm ok. I get what you mean now, there really isn't much adjustment with the design. So what I did was back off the belt reasoner, pull the belt tight. Then slip the little belt clamp in place, then add some tension. Seems to work ok.

I had to copy the descriptions from his BOM and paste them in Amazon Australia to find stuff. Not everything was the same and took some research. Some things I bought through Amaxon Australia, ebay, some through jaycar. Be careful with lead times, especially for the shielded cable. It took weeks to arrive as did the z axis drive. @@alexrenault3620 Hey Alex, sorry for the delay in replying. Family stuff comes first. The engine is a stock 5.7L engine I pulled from a wreck I purchased. @@jimbreen8630 yes mate, #4. It's a well used manual, as you can see it's discoloured after many years of referencing info. Thanks for watching.
What gauge wire
@@ari1234. 12AWG or 2.7mm wire including insulation. Capable of 40a max load and 30a running current. But this is dependant on your fan size. Smaller fan can be smaller wire. This info is for a large thermo. I have 2 medium size fans and I preffer the wire size is on the bigger size. Hope this helps and thanks for watching
