Soft energy pattern given to the AHA by Professor Il Wong Huh from Myung Ji University, South Korea. Beautifully performed by Dominic Spreckley - instructor of the Mullumbimby Hapkido Dojang. This pattern demonstrates the soft side of Hapkido - but you can still see the focus and power Dominic displays in each technique with great footwork, posture, breath and co-ordination of his entire body. ...

Video of Master Lee Jeong Seo's amazing tour in 1999 in Australia. His approach and techniques greatly influenced our Hapkido and we are still (20 years later) trying to work out how he did his techniques. It is three hours long - but well worth the time. There are so many gems in this video - enjoy. Seminars were in Paddington, Brookvale, Castle Hill, Central Coast, Port Macquarie, Murwillumba...

About Grandmaster Im Mok Chang (from Wikipedia) - Grand Patriarch Jang Im Mok (born 15 August 1912) of Taegue City, who also trained under Takeda Sokaku's lineage, returned to Taegue City, Korea in 1945, like Grand Patriarch Choi Yong-Sul. He was a doctor of oriental medicine and taught his Aikijitsu as Hapkido. Dr Jang-in Mok learned the Dae Dong Ryu Yu Sul Hapkido from his teacher Masuta Yutaka and his teacher Takeda Sokaku in Japan. Choi Yong-sool trained many students, but Jang In Mok only trained a few. He had notable students such as Han-young Choi (Chun Ki Do), Jang Seeung Ho, Song Joon Hwi, Hu Il Wong (teacher of Peter and Joseph Kim from the Australian Hapkido Association), and Song Il Hun. The Dae Don Ryu Sul system was introduced to Korea in 1960 by him. The first time he learned martial arts was in Japan, where he learned Daito-ryu Jujisu in September 1928. He received his certificate in 1935 from Masuta Yutaka, a student of Takeda Sodaku.

Great Grand Master Yun (1st Generation of HKD) who brought HKD to GwangJu and Jeolla Province for the first time. GwangJu HAPKIDO which is mostly BongMuGwan style is started by GM Yun. My master GM Cho was in charge of 1 of Kwan that belonged to BongMuKwan style. (Han-sung BongMuKwan) Since there are many HAPKIDO Federations now. It is hard to see the name of BongMuKwan in GwangJu but all HAPKIDO 'Kwan's are associated to BongMuKwan style in GwangJu and Jeolla Province. In cluding myself currently running Kwan in Shanghai, China. GM Yun has already passed away long time ago. He made an amazing legacy to future generation. It is really amazing sir you had a chance to meet and get a lesson from him. I never met him in my life even i am from GwangJu. RIP GM Yun.

The 1st Comment. My sincere gratitude for your noble work and support to the GRANDMASTER Yun Sae Gwan. I hope next year to travel for training with GM Gwan too. Thank you again for this video which is a new breath for any hapkido practitioner with an open mind and open heart. Best wishes from Hapkido Federation of Azerbaijan Republic!

Thanks for the comment - it was very difficult to find him for this training - I had to find someone who know someone - who knew someone. Everyone knows him in Gwangju - but not sure if he is still alive - he was not well even at the time of this filming - and that was 12 years ago.

What a small world I personally recorded that video and just saw your post by complete accident . I remember it well . I was participating in a grading at Murwillumbah and all was going well when Master Matthew Kim arrived unannounced and took over the proceedings . In the end he put all the black belts through a rigorous workout for a long time .. Can you tell me how you came by it . My last teacher was Shirsha in Byron bay and I am pretty sure I gave the footage to her . I am happy to see it published here . Hapkido helped me a lot and I now live in Bangkok , Hope you will reply

Barry Restall sent me the video last week (Mar 2017) with an explanation (similar to yours). This is the second part - first part is David Middleton and Barry Restall teaching and tacking the students through a grading. Barry said he learnt all about humility that day.

Brian. His history is a mystery to me. I asked but all I could get was that he considered himself one of the founders of hapkido around gwangju. Most of his techniques were quite different from what i had seen from other masters. i trained with him for 2 weeks only and learnt about 8 separate techniques and i still practice them. i managed to capture about 2 hrs of video from that training. i consider myself very lucky to have met him no matter what his history is.
