Crazy that some bent metal tubing, a back rest, and thin fabric seat would ever cost more than 1000...

The first time I heard about this company was through the youtuber "wheelsnoheels" immediately after she mentioned this wheelchair that's priced at a thousand dollars I went to go research it myself. I'm still looking at other wheelchairs but all the other ones are over a thousand dollars up to two thousand dollars, yet this one is a bit cheaper. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. But I hopefully am trying to purchase and have a wheelchair in a year, but I will just have to see.

I just hope this means more people can get a reliable wheelchair. ill admit my knowledge on the subject is close to none but this does sound promising. I do hope this chair would also be accessible with insurance. though ill take you at your word when you say 1000 is cheap for a wheelchair, it still is a huge amount of money. especially for the intended target demographic i assume. glad someone is taking the steps to increase access to sturdy quality wheelchairs but I hope many more improvements will be made in the whole system that made this an unfulfilled need in the first place. I am fortunate enough that in my current position in live i don't need a wheelchair. I say current because who knows what may happen in the future. but i do need other aids to live my life. and even though I live in the Netherlands, a place with better healthcare then the us, it still is something i have to set money aside for just to be able to live my life "normally". As a society we are really failing to meet the requirements of those that fall outside the norm. I feel this isn't discussed enough.

Maybe after 5 years they can add a unit for hills - either assist (not sure that is good for weight) or maybe reduction unit to multiply torque.

Considering my TiLite TR came in around $7000 after options and taxes, $900 is a steal. Would make a good alternate chair for travelling (we've all seen how airlines treat them).

$1k for a few metal tubes and some wheels? What on Earth is going on in America? A Meyra/Otto Bock motorized wheelchair costs $900 here in Europe. And this has nothing to do with insurance or healthcare. You just staright up buy it from the store. A normal, non-motorized one is $80-120. The sports ones are $400. Kudos to Zack for doing a great service to the people that need this, but the prices in America are insane.

  • @Michele-ue5eu

1000$ doesn't sound cheap for a wheelchair. Forget the human element for a second. From experience i know a set of wheels and tyres can be had for 100 ish so no point in optimizing that i can't see being able to lower that, the rest of the chair is just bent tubes welded, hell it's functional piece of equipment i would probably use square tubing to make it cheaper and easier to weld. The ones it saw are not even customized to the user they just come in S, M and L sized. This has to be a regulation thing, being something related to healthcare probably it's not like a random dude can build weelchairs. There are scooters for 1000, no way big manufacturer can't make a weelchair cheaper

For people not really using wheel chairs and simply googling for a price feeling. You should look for active / adaptive wheelchairs to get a real sense of their pricing. I was suprised and found that in germany the "real deal" will cost 2500-3000+ Euro (the health insurance is usually paying for it though as far as i understood). Was a nice video and i hope that the initiative works out for the people in need of a good wheelchair

Can someone explain to me what custom means in this context? Given there’s talk of adjusting it i assume it can’t mean that it’s made to the measure of the user. I have had to buy a few wheelchairs now, though none for long term daily use, and the most expensive models here were around €500 without insurance coverage and in direct supply. Is this just what American life is like or is a custom wheelchair something entirely different?
