It’s depends on what breed you have if you have racer start tossing from close to home then slowly increase distance You will see difference

If your birds are circling for a hour then you can toss but your first toss must be in clear sky if possible 3km and they take so long something not right hawksnon the way bad weather etc
I will consider weather before toss 12 of them been there before few times already only 8 was first time but they took so long ( luckily I got all back end of day)
How's your birds flying in your loft.is they started routing. Don't release birds like this climate !
