    Gorgeous!!! Excellent work! Your guitarwork is beautiful, and you have a very lovely singing voice. Your energy comes through the video, it feels like a joyous campfire song.

    Better to die free than live in chains - yet Australia became a police state during the hokey Covid plandemic. I felt terrible for them being basically prisoners - we told the lockdowns to get screwed by May.

    Glyn’s explanation of Waltzing Matilda is an entertaining mixture of fact and fancy with more of the latter. The music in the manuscript was written in 1895 by Christina Macpherson, the sister of the “squatter a’riding his thoroughbred” in the song. Christina supplied the tune which she heard played by a brass band at the Warrnambool races in 1894 and played by ear. Banjo Paterson composed the words. This tune was never published and not widely sung. It was probably sung by Australian volunteers at the Boer War. Soon after it was written, Paterson sold the rights to the song and it was purchased by the Billy Tea Company. In 1903, James Ingles, the owner of the company, commissioned Marie Cowan, the wife of one of his managers, to rewrite the song as an advertising jingle for Billy Tea. This is the version that Australian’s sing today. nla.gov.au/nla.obj-166639875/view?partId=nla.obj-166639888#page/n0/mode/1up The song is not really about a swagman and the full story is very well told at the sites below trishansoz.com/trishansoz/waltzing-matilda/christina-macpherson.html en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waltzing_Matilda

    Vltava is actually a big river... so the melody represents how it flows. From a little stream in the woods to a big and powerful river later on.

    It's just a pitfall that anyone writing tunes in a traditional idiom will run into. I've certainly done it (I accidentally "wrote" a Liz Carroll tune once), and I'm sure Phil Cunningham has done it too. You just gotta shrug and move on to the next tune!

  • @glyncollinson
    @glyncollinson 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Patrick. Thanks very much, I looked it up and, wow, yeah, the A part is very similar. This actually really wasn't intentional, and I seem to have accidentally "written" an A part that is very close to something that someone else has written before! It's also entirely possible that I'd heard it eons and eons ago and it surfaced. Anyhow, good catch, thank you. I'll either tweak it a bit more, or just be sure to mention Phil's tune when I perform it.

  • @PatrickCavanagh
    @PatrickCavanagh 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Glyn -- looks like fun. I'd love to take that train sometime. However, re: "Shrieking Eagles" you may want to check with Phil Cunningham first, as he already has a name for that tune: The Hut on Staffin Island. You will find it on thesession and lots of youtube videos. Nice playing though :)

    I'd be very interested to hear what she had to say. It'd be really neat to hear what it was actually like to work on a shift. My grandfather was a shift manager, so there's a slim chance that she might have known him.

    Now go listen to Eric Bogle's "And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" to understand the Anzak connection. You can find Eric's own version and about 50 covers.

    @fireking9934 That depends a lot on what kind of propulsion you'd use, and whether or not you go straight there, or slingshot off other planets. New Horizons got to Jupiter in less than a year, Cassini took 3, having flown past venus and the earth

  • @glyncollinson
    @glyncollinson 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @monoham1 Nothing has landed on Europa yet. You can see a movie of a probe landing on Titan (Saturn's largest moon) if you search for "titan landing video" on google

    have any probes landed on europa? information is so hard to find about space exploration on the internet!! for every minute of the origional moon landing i can find, i can find 12 hours of docos and hoax related vids... where is there the full video and why isnt it on youtube? i have NEVER seen a HD video of ANY spacecraft landing on ANY extraterrestrial body...i saw a 0.2 fps vid of the LCROSS orbiter crashing... in INFRARED!!!!!!!!1

    Great video! I work as a ranger for CA state parks and plan to visit this park for fun soon. I like the shots of the "mothball fleet", the ships in the Carquinez Straits. I grew up in Sacramento and was always fascinated by those ships when I would see them on the way to San Francisco. The catchy, enjoyable music enhanced the video a lot, too. Thank you
