Determination of Dissolved Oxygen in water sample | DO analysis by Winkler's method| IS 3025 part 38
Dissolved oxygen (DO) is the amount of oxygen that is present in water. Water bodies receive oxygen from the atmosphere and from aquatic plants. Running water, such as that of a swift moving stream, dissolves more oxygen than the still water of a pond or lake, DO is an important indicator of water quality because it affects the organisms that live in the water. Waters with high levels of DO are stable and can support many different types of aquatic life. In contrast, low DO levels are a sign of severe pollution and indicate lower biological activity, Dissolved oxygen (DO) can be measured using an electrochemical DO meter and probe or using the Winkler method (iodine/thiosulfate titration). The Winkler titration method is the most popular because of its reliable measurement in water samples
