Hey mate I plugged mine into a brown wire at the fuse box area which is an ignition switch wire, come to think of it i think it was a wire that came from old rec/reg plug because that is now deleted because of the new rec/reg, so it’s a brown wire switched from the ignition near the fuse box, hope this helps. Cheers.

I’m sure with a multimeter you can probe around there and find an ignition switch wire there somewhere.

Your rite Mark because the carb was flooding it was just poring the fuel in to the crankcase fixed that and all good, the owner rode it that weekend and did 150km vinduro reported back that it ran great.👍

@@rechargegarage8705 great vid. I loved the “listen to the tinkering and banter” quip! Sadly, I’ve never even been to one. But as I get less young, I’d better get there. Especially knowing what I miss out on every year! 😩 I’m currently doing up a basket case 1983 RZ250. It’s so bad, it’s going to have modern running gear. I got a free set of Hyosung 250 usd forks, wheels and swingarm, so that’s a cost free possibility. But the motor turns over and the electrics all work. I’ve got a mate who will be doing the engine strip and rebuild for me. I fear it’s too far gone in the bores, but fingers crossed!

Hey mate, pretty sure I used the instructions they gave me that came with the stator but I will have to check maybe I set mine wrong 🧐, I would use the vape instructions not the original manual.

Hi there, yes it does. The one I fitted to this bike was a points 350 engine so it deleted all of the points and coils, the other video on the 400 Daytona engine I built was originally a CDI and the vape ignition deletes all that. Cheers

Sorry Kevin the crank is made from cast iron and was fine, I just replaced the con-rod kit which has Rod, pin and bearing. 👍

Hey mate, yes mine is a long crank and I didn’t have any ignition system for it so that’s why I went for the vape ignition system and it works great, if you get on the Vape Ignition web site and search it there’s one for the long crank. There’s a measurement in the instructions. The one I ordered was part number-711379900. When I ordered it I put the length of the crank end in the comments so they could send the correct one out. @@rechargegarage8705 yes I just did the measurements, and its the exact crank as yours..... so yeah....yours is a 2r9 crankshaft, which are said to be the strongest ones. and were fitted on the uk rd400e, and Canadian/Australian/south American rd400f, and rd400g. 1979-1980 models. i just placed an order for one... mine will have to travel to Colombia, how long did it take yours to get from Vape to the UK. this is my bike th-cam.com/video/0WLtrLkCAzg/w-d-xo.html with Daytona livery.

I’m in Australia not the UK and it didn’t take long at all probably a week it was fast considering, anyway good luck and I’ll check yours out. 👍

Hey Jeff, no it’s not there’s a hole in the rear for speedo cable guide which I don’t have so it has to go that way, 👍

It’s a great event, some fast old bikes and nicely restored bikes as well.👍

Had 2 red ones, j reg and a L , and the J reg one was tuned with a bit of porting and polishing exhaust port opened up, the case's were matched to the barrel and all polished, it was bored out to the maximum, ( probably closer to 130cc than 100cc ) the carb was a 32mm and jetted fairly well, if not a bit rich😶‍🌫️ and from a RD 125 I used the micron exhaust ( had to cut it up and re weld it as well as a rew repairs) forks and bar's, front and back wheel, the front light and that little bit fairing and screen, and that belly pan , added a tooth to the front sprocket and tried a 36,37,38 teeth sprockets on the back and it was better with the 38 tooth 97mph at 10k RPM in any weather and 102mph with a tail wind and slight down hill, the 36 tooth could get 102mph on a straight road with a slight tail wind and 105mph down the hill, I only done it a few times! I put 8,000 miles on that engine, hard miles most of the time 😂 And it was just so reliable 🫢🤷‍♂️💪 That was 23 years ago now and having a bit more age & experience, I wish I had it now, it was cheap to run , roughly 60 miles to the gallon and nearly 200 ish miles to the tank , and castrol 2 stroke was £3-4 a liter The good old day's 😊

@@andrewshore262 400's got a twin disc front in Australia, I'm sure. The 250 and the 350 definitely didn't, though.

@@davidbrayshaw3529 In Europe / North America it was a single disc, can’t see Yamaha adding an additional disc for the tiny Australian market 🤔

@@andrewshore262 I think you're right. I'd swear though that one of my mates had one with twin front discs. It was a race bike, so it might well have been modified, but then again, my memory of it might be totally wrong, also.

@@davidbrayshaw3529 I think your mate probably upgraded and modified especially if he was racing, the brakes were definitely not a strong point! The 350LC which followed the RD400 did of course have a twin disc setup so Yamaha obviously knew something had to be done 👍

Hi Patrick, the later RZ250/350 had twin rotors mines a 76 only had one rotor on the front, 2 would be nice though.👍
