Review of the Rawrr Mantis X on Motocross Track
We've all seen the flat road range tests- but what about a real world, off road riding scenario? I want to see if I can outlast the battery on my Rawrr Mantis X at Murphy's MX track in Austin Texas.
The track was incredibly muddy following a bad storm the afternoon before and that will definitely impact the riding range.
Murphy's MX has 2 moto tracks and a kids track. The track used for this test is their "Night Track" and on par with an intermediate style track with high speed straights, doubles, table top jumps, and big turns.
The Rawrr Mantis X is a low price point option for a very well built off road focused e-moto. Check out the other videos I have done on this bike here:

If you want your own Rawrr, be sure to call Houston Motorsports, they can even get one shipped to you.

Step 1 sell it buy a gas bike
😂😂 that first step was accomplished 25 years ago. It's not a replacement for a full size dirtbike, but it's fun 😀
Kke cost around $300 they are not bad
It depends on what you plan to do. For most people, they are a solid choice.
Nice I think I will get to so I won't have to ride alone anymore.
The mud was so deep that as soon as I hit it- I sank and went over the bars. I may or may not have a torn rotator cuff now.
maybe don’t buy a rawrr
But it is awesome when it's not in 12 inch deep mud 😂
bro, no disrespect but why are you taking a 6 kilowatt bike on the race track? if you wanna race just spend the extra 1k on something with atleast double the power.
No disrespect felt at all- I do it because it's fun and can. It's not great on full size MX tracks but is a blast on smaller intermediate tracks and pit bike tracks. I also plan to take it to a kart track on supermoto tires. The top speed is 50mph and it's plenty of power for it.
I needed this! My Mantis X is pretty bouncy out of the box. thanks!
Hope it helps! I also had to add quite a bit of pressure to the forks.
you don’t have to do that at all, just go into the app and disable it. so much easier and less chances of getting that cable wet and messing with your harness
This may be true, but I don't have an iPhone, so there isn't an app available yet. Good point for Apple users, though.
Wow, I'm not sure what happened to the audio syncing. Looks dubbed :0
Someone should count the number of times I say "Awesome" in this video 🤣😂
The people that make these are not thinking the seats are made for people who race that stand up most of the time these are not race bikes what are they thinking everyone wants to be comfortable riding plus some of them only have 22 mm handlebars give me a break on a $ 5,000 bike at least this one thicker
I meant to say 3000
Although one guy said to seet it wasn't bad, after a while it will get to you with a gel seat cover you can go as long as you want
Get a seat cover from a Harley-Davidson you will thank me later you can ride as long as you want Google it you'll find them they look cool I have one on mine way better you will thank me later All these new bikes the seats sucks, not like the old days
One guy said sport mode and race mode is the same speed I don't know why they even put sport they should have just put Eco and race
They are the same top speed, yes. I did a short/vertical video showing the top speeds of all 3. The difference is in the throttle response. In Race mode the throttle is "twitchier" and Sport is fast but "smoother" I'll note, that I also disconnected the brake sensors that cut power when the brakes are applied.
Great for trails nice kke shocks 50 mph is plenty of speed, smaller back wheel i think i will get 2 never ride alone again i hate it gets boreing to fast. Get 2 instead off a $6000 bike, that only goes a little faster except for the Altis Sigma i just don't like a card to start it there's a hey for the seat one guy didn't know how to shut his off, the champ superhuman is nice but it's 5000 and the only goes 5 mph faster than this one
Absolutely great on trails!
Well I subscribed anyway
Thanks for the support!! I hope you can get back on a bike soon. Let me know if you have any questions!
For some reason it won't let me hit like
Weird! Thanks for trying though :)
You mean your butts really get into you all those seats suck on these new bikes you need to put a gel seat cover that's what I did and I can ride as long as I want now
At least the handlebars are thicker most of them only has a 22 mm
I just thought of another thing about electric,, you can't rev it up before you take off, I just love the two strokes things are changing
It's definitely weird and takes some time get used to. I still love my KX125 two stroke though.
Good video 👍
Thanks for watching and being so engaged with it!!
Well not to handlebars but you know what I mean
One more thing that's different I just noticed the chords wrapped around at the handlebars first time I seen that I hate it when they are hanging all over the place
They need to be up like that due to the amount of suspension travel. I did have to add an attachment point for the brake line because it kept getting stuck on the weird cross bar that's in front of the display.
All bikes nowadays have what 2 inch foam for the seat,, they act like everybody's racing and standing up most of the time, big mistake anyways I put a gel seat from a Harley-Davidson and it works great and looks cool and I can ride as long as I want Google it you will thank me later seats nowadays suck,, not like back in the day when I used to ride my two stroke all the bikes had nice seats
Truthfully, I only sit in the turns when on the track. I have zero complaints about this seat. I'd love to get an aftermarket cover for it but that would be purely for looks and I don't know that I want to spend the money on that at the moment. If you have a dealer local to you, see if they have one in stock and see if the seat works for you.
Kke shocks I wouldn't complain,, that's what they use on mountain bikes I think they go for about 300 bucks those shocks the front ones
The shocks are not bad after setting up for my size and style of riding. They do a decent job but aren't full MX forks, like you said.
You can buy two of these for the price of the altis sigma. I think I'll get two of these like I said before
I want to get the altis sigma,, but I don't like the way the key cards goes to start it up on the display one guy couldn't turn his off I'm going to wait and see if anybody keeps having any problems with it it is the best bike out there right now for a small bike 30 Inc seat on the MX has a smaller back wheel on the other one is 19 and 19 and has a 33 inch seat, if you haven't seen the altis sigma you need to check it out
I'd like to get my hands on the Altis for some testing. It could be a great option as it is priced better than the Ultra Bee. For me, the NFC key card is not something I'd want to deal with. The low price point of the Mantis X and strong form function is what sold me. It's a pit bike and relatively inexpensive.
Never been on a four-stroke only a two-stroke back in the day, but I like the electric because they're a lot lighter
They ride very much like a 2-stroke in the sense that there isn't any engine braking- unless you have the app and can turn on regen. The lightness is amazing on this size class!
@@alexdombi-weridetwoexcellent thanks for replying I think I'm going to get a gell seat cover that go on motorcycles I have one on my ebike now it looks cool, Harley-Davidson gell seat covers Google it check them out they're pretty cool I need a wrap around the side of the dirt bikes seat
I meant to say they wrap around the seat so they come down the side
I kind of like hearing a bike behind me so I know I have to keep it moving
You're right that sometimes it's good to hear your surroundings. I haven't spooked anyone by passing them (that I know of). Maybe I'll start using the horn or calling out to riders :D
The most problem people are having on the track is motorbikes don't hear you coming so you just have to pass them
Thankfully, many motocross tracks are wide enough that you can pass safely without putting any others at risk.
I think I'll get to so I don't have to ride alone ever again, it sucks riding alone it gets boring quick I like to race mess around have fun
Riding with friends it ALWAYS better. I have some friends with the Mantis X, Surron Light Bee, and Talaria MX5. I hope to get a video together soon of all variations on the track at once.
@@alexdombi-weridetwosounds good I'll be looking forward to that one
They are better than dirt bikes you don't have to shift you can hold on tighter all the time that's something nobody ever thinks of
I wouldn't say "better" personally, but as I mentioned in the video- they are a blast but not a replacement for a full MX bike. I tend to do most my holding on with my legs when on the track. The Mantis X is much easier to do this with than the Sur-ron due to the seat and frame style.
thanks for being honest about the rod. now we wont make that mistake
The best way to learn from mistakes is to own them and help others avoid the same issues. Hope your project goes well!
Pull the choke out and ever time you start it rev It as much as you can
If the jets are clogged that's going to flood the bike.
Have you figured out a way to go faster than 50? My son has one. We’re trying to figure out if you can unlock it.
There's a company out of Hawaii that is selling controllers that increase the speed, but I haven't tested them myself yet. I've been waiting until Rawrr releases the Android app so I can play with the stock controller settings.
I did a clutch years ago on my brother's friend's bike. I was on vacation and had time on my hamds. Did the same thing with the rod. I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work. He had to take it to a shop, and they fixed it, lol.
Glad it wasn't just me 😂
Looks cool. How did you secure the bike in the back? I know there are chocks for the eTrack and all kinds of devices for hauling bikes. What did you use?
The front wheel was up against the side door and b-pillar and I used tie downs on the bars and from the foot peg. I had found someone who was making a chock that mounted to the b-piller but think they stopped making them. Ultimately, I decided to get a larger van instead.
Go boom for the ha!re$
I have 3 bikes. A Buell XT, a BMW 1250 GSA and a KTM 890 SMT. The most fun bike is the Buell, the best long distance bike is the BMW, the most I use is the KTM. If I hade to choose one? The Buell because you feel the front sliding, or the back sliding, you have control. Also wheelies are so easy. Can’t explain why but it’s like you don’t need the rear brake and only use the throttle.
If the ktm is the one you use the most im surprised that wouldn't be the one you'd keep. What makes you pull that one out more than the Buell?
Change your jets
That would work, but cleaning them is a cheaper alternative.
The last plug should be the cheapest/easiest to replace. Power cables are cheaper than swapping battery connections. I also use a power strip, and my last step is to turn the strip on.
Great suggestion. I sometimes use a power strip, too.
Hi mate. Great video and good detailed explanation. Easy to follow. I have issue with my youngest boy ttr50 which wont start. I checked all 4 things-and did the proper carb cleaning, but it still wont start. Tried also with pushing the bike with mu son on it on 2nd gear for a while and still no luck. Thing to mention is that the bike start having issues after i gave it a wash. Also had to use some cheap oil to top it up once as the kid droped it and some oil came up from air filter, so as a quick fix i just add some 10w40 oil. Shortly after i changed the oil with proper one, but wondrring if this might be the issue. My spark plug is kind of black and woild replace it tomorrow once shops are open. Do those pistons have rings? My next sugestion is to go for new piston rings if the issue is with the compresion. Any other suggestions? Bike was running for 2 years without any issues.
If you checked the plug by grounding it on the engine and looking at the spark then that's likely not the issue. If there's no spark at all or it's very dim, that's a possibility. Being as the issues started after the washing, it's possible some of the electrical connections are corroded or maybe something caused a short. Check the engine shut off switch and the ignition switch mainly. When you say "top it off" after losing some oil, did you fill the engine or did you use the dipstick to check proper level? Too much oil can create too much pressure and cause issues. The piston does have rings- before ordering a replacement set you can either buy or rent a compression tester from an auto parts store. I hope this helps. It's hard to diagnose a bike through comments but I try :) Good luck!!
@alexdombi-weridetwo @alexdombi-weridetwo hi. Thanks for the quick reply. I don't believe the wash is the issue-as the electric start is engaging as usual. I am thinking to get a new spark tomorrow and let's see if anything would change. As mentioned earlier, the spark looks a bit black and kind of oily. When I topped it of course I was checking with the dip stick not to add more than it should. What would.you consider too much oil? I know they use around 800ml, but would you think if I added 900 which would be at the top part of the dip stick could cause any damage and what? I also don't believe it is the compression as when I try to manually start the bike by putting it on 2nd gear and spin the rear wheel by hand it is giving me a good resistance. Also maybe worth to mention is that as the exhaust is off at the moment due to cleaning the carb, when I try to start the bike using the electric start I see some traces of vapor like a smoke coming out from the exhaust hole of the engine and I also can smell the petrol. I understand that is not easy to diagnose without being present and I appreciate all your help and suggestions. You are my best helper so far and I will keep you updated how it goes when I get a new spark tomorrow. Thank you again for replying so quick.
You said the plug was black and oily, but did you check it for spark where you can visibly inspect the arcing of current? Hopefully replacing the plug will get it back running. As you mentioned the exhaust is currently off, is the airbox also off? Sometimes having the air box off or filter removed will cause there to be too much airflow and won't allow the fuel to ignite.
@alexdombi-weridetwo I was checking for spark with spark plug out and grounded to the cylinder head. I couldn't see a spark as it was daytime, but I felt electrocuted so I assumed there is some spark. And the airfilter box and airfilter oiled were back in place when tried to start it.
Got new spark plug today. The bike started first time. The moral is: electrocuted doesn't mean there is a actual spark :) thanks again. Going soon for brand new ttr 110 for my oldest son. Hopefully similar easy maintenance as ttr 50. All the best!
And ur putting the two fire extinguishers where?? Not above that bc there would be a fire below it right?
Maybe I'm misunderstanding- how else will I transport fuel besides in a fuel can? Either way, good call. I'll install an extinguisher 😉
@alexdombi-weridetwo an exterior and interior place I'd hate to see the van go up... But ur best case would to be build a enclosure outta sheet metal for the can.. unfortunately if you'd want to stop the possibility of the worse case to happen..Although it looks like u could make it work either way
that trail track looks like my type of speed.
I think with more people riding it'll shape up to be pretty cool
