    My most recent one was a TtR sized game that came with a cardboard insert, but it was just one space for bits that was like 3 inches wide in the middle of the box. So then after opening and sorting everything it wouldn't all fit in this tiny area, so I just removed the insert and put all of the stuff in loose, but now there is just so much extra space in the box it feels ridiculous!

      Yes! Bad in-box storage drives me crazy. I have purchased some of the Folded Space foam inserts and those make tabling games a lot better. I also hate it when I punch everything out and then have no idea what should go where. Especially when a game comes with a number of empty bags but not enough for each of the various components to have their own. Like, which ones should I be combining!?

      In this case, yes, I meant the Kickstarter version. It seems like Holy Grail Games were able to get the retail version out to stores before they closed, but I know some backers still haven't received their copies- which is unfortunate. I don't know how many are available at retail, but I really love the game, so if it interests you, I'd suggest scooping it up.

    Just popping in to say that I’ve played Arcs, and it’s not (in my opinion) as exciting as everyone has played it up to be. The trick taking is very restrictive, and any long term plans you have are difficult to execute. Movement is highly restricted as well. Good concept but needs a bit more refinement to be fun to bring to the table regularly.

    I am going to propose tabletop hobbyist heresy by saying if one can be content and happy with a bunch of blindspots of games never played, that is success. I am to a place I need to strategically deploy blindsports so I can return to games I own. Without this it is a Dominions expansion problem in that, the more I add, the less I will get to both the new AND old. AND I play solo, so I have no excuse to get any game with a solo mode to the table.

    I agree with Adam that Calico can be so frustrating and anxiety inducing because it seems nigh unto impossible to get the right pieces at the end. It's such a beautiful game though that I love it and play it anyway. I just played Verdant and love it even more than Calico because it is puzzly and beautiful and more flexible. I haven't played Fit to Print. Cascadia I love too, but rank it below Calico and Verdant because it's not as gorgeous, even though the art is beautiful. I guess I'm more into the aesthetic of the games and not how smoothly the game play goes.

    • @CrunchyCozyGames
      @CrunchyCozyGames 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For me (Adam) it's definitely a gameplay thing. I love the theme of Calico but the stress of the final few turns and watching all my careful plans melt away brings the game down for me. I still like it, don't get me wrong, but when I'm in the mood for a puzzle game, I have to be in the right mindset for it.

    Last comment: On Mars, The Gallerist, Kanban, and Lisboa are all by Lacerda and tend to share a similarish feel. They are very heavy, kinda fiddly, towards the longer end, and generally all about making the most out of very few turns in a game. If you want a heavy (4.5ish) euro he is the biggest name designer in the space and you have to try one. However, most people don't want that heavy...

    I get the impression Klemens Franz art does nothing for you guys, you passed on all the games (Agricola, Caverna, Le Havre, Grand Austria, Orlean...) specifically due to art except Clans of Caledonia and that one only for the meeples. Clans is a great game, it's in the vein of Terra Mystica with contracts. If you like worker placement, you have to at least try Agricola / Caverna / Lords of Waterdeep, they are 3 of the classics. Agricola is the granddaddy classic though. If you play it, Revised is the way to go. It's only rated lower cause the original was #1 on BGG for a while a decade ago and the Revised edition came out during the current flood of all new modern games and never got the mass appeal of the original. If the 2 had their ratings combined instead of split, Agricola would likely still be a top 10 game.

    • @billtodd2194
      @billtodd2194 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Having finished watching the vid and skimmed the 100 list, it looks like the top 20 games of BGG from a decade ago are now spread around the top 11-50 range and they all have the older, blander art style and basic cubes of a decade ago that you (and I bet most newer gamers) passed on due to looks alone. Most of them TBH have also fallen out of my own top 10, but they were the games that got me hooked on the hobby, are still great games, and you can see all the mechanics that got copied by the newer games in the top 100.

    • @CrunchyCozyGames
      @CrunchyCozyGames 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We'll check out Agricola at some point I'm sure. But you're right, Franz's art just doesn't entice either of us. I think it's great other people love it though.

    Mage Knight is a very acquired taste. It's not like a dungeon crawler. It's a deck builder where you use the cards to move around the map and kill monsters on it. Which I know sounds like a dungeon crawler, but it feels completely different. It's a near perfect information game, lots of rules, and ridiculously hard until you learn how to stack OP combos, so you will sit there for minutes APing to find the best possible solutions. The multiplayer mode is also virtually nonexistent, it's 2 of you playing solo on the same map, so double the time for almost no extra fun. I enjoy it as a solo puzzler, but hated it as a group game. It's called MK: The Board Game because MK was a minis game years ago.

    I know you are "divided" on Arkham Card Game, but I'd urge you guys to give it a try, it's an amazing game. Get the core set and the first expansion (Dunwitch Legacy) and playing through those should give you a very good idea on how the game works, I believe you'd both like it, as you said it’s a great two players game.

    • @CrunchyCozyGames
      @CrunchyCozyGames 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I (Adam) definitely like card games a lot more than Kara. I think it has to do with the different variables you have to read and watch for. We've played Marvel Champions, which I really like, but it got a "meh" from her. How do you think this compares if you've played both?

    • @DakonBlackblade2
      @DakonBlackblade2 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CrunchyCozyGames The gameplay has similarities on the overall ideas, but the flow of the game itself is very different and Arkham is way more narrative driven. Arkham plays like a board game/card game hybrid, where it uses cards to build a board and you can walk around said board with your investigator and the "board" and objectives change from scenario to scenario. It feels to me like Marvel is quite a bit more casual minded, not trying super hard to deeply immerse you, more focused on fun and quick gameplay; while Arkham is trying to get you deep into the lore and ambience. There is a great gameplay tutorial on Watch it Played I think it’d give you a good idea on how the game works.

      @@CrunchyCozyGames a few shield bunkers and adds green dice to the grey and red dice in the base game and I think both sides gain 2 units that use it the tie stikers and the assuslt tanks, the rebels get the u wing and rebel vanguard. they also add turrets they can build. the main reason I like the expansion is the cards added to combat it makes the game much more intresting in combat. In the base game combat kinds grinds the game down and you do not have many choices so it feels like the game stops units until the empire finds rhe base. I still the base game but i never play without the expasion the combat cards make the game much more itense and games much closer.

      @@CrunchyCozyGames I have been playing, collecting, testing, designing and (in one case) publishing board games for more than 30 years now. Gaia Project is the only one of them, that hits ALL of the following criteria that make a game great in my eyes: 1) being very competetive and balanced 2) being very complex in available strategys 3) being a bit asymetric but not to much 4) having no rng envolved or having this reduced to a minimum 5) being a good mix of strategic planing and tactical calculating 6) having a haptic and looks that work for me (honestly not a fan of space theme and modular boards, though, but thats fine in this case) 7) being an interessting puzzly challenge even if you play against superiour opponents or cant win any longer Also, I had the privilige to playtest the upcoming expansion "lost fleet" and while Im certainly not allowed to tell anything about its content, I can already tell that it brings the game to a completely new level gameplaywise. And yes, Im not paid by the publishers to say all this, Im just a little fanboy of the game. :D

    A Feast for Odin is a blast at all player counts (even solo)! There are so many decisions and different cards that you can play this forever. I haven't heard about a deluxe edition and I wouldn't count on it. There is a new expansion in the making called AFfO - The Danes but it's taken years and no real information yet about any publishing date. New reprint will hit NA in April and if you want to grab it, be sure that the extra materials are in the box (should clearly state on the backside of the box). A new selection board for 1-2p and some extra islands will spice up the game even more. The Norwegians expansion adds more good stuff and upgrades the selection board even further, making the game even more exciting and tighter. But the main game still packs a lot of stuff and the new boards for 1-2p helps giving a better experience so there is no real need to grab the expension. Highly recommend!

    Hi, just discovered your channel, so not sure on your tastes, but some comments based on the vid: - Terra Mystica does look drab, I put off trying it for 2 years due to that, but it's now my favorite game (tied with very similar Gaia Project and Age of Innovation). I heard you say you want some midgame luck, which might be a turnoff, the only randomness is in setup. It also is heavyish, but you have some games on your shelf behind you of equal weight, ex Terraforming Mars and you mentioned TI. I'll note, do NOT buy TM to play at 2p it's not good, get Gaia Project unless consistently playing 4p or 5p. -Nemesis is very hit or miss, it's much more an experience and atmosphere thing than a strategy game. Whether you like that sort of thing will determine if this seems great or boring. -Eclipse is not TI4, I dislike that they are always directly equated because they are both in space and use ships on hexes. Eclipse has ship customization, but no diplomacy mechanics, no action card equiv, and a more euro feel. Sure it's shorter, but it's not really the same type of game either. -TTA live is like an hour per person even once experienced. But it is a good civ builder if you don't mind the length. There's also a very good app to try it and play 20 min games vs a solid ai. -Dune Imperium is really good. It's euro style and completely different from the old Dune game.

      Thanks for the insight! And for watching. It's fun to find out which games end up grabbing you. We've discovered a lot of our favorites came from places we didn't expect. You can play Through the Ages on BGA if you want to try it. Rebellion is a great game. So is War of the Ring. If you want to try Twilight Struggle, but want a shorter version, you can try Twilight Struggle Red Sea. But the rules are definitely written like wargame rules and not the typical euro game rules.

    • @CrunchyCozyGames
      @CrunchyCozyGames 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had not heard of Red Sea - good to know! This might sound crazy, but I'm not on BGA. For me the best thing about board games is gathering around the table with my friends. We've got a great local board game cafe that has it, it's just about clearing the time to do it. We do love Civilization games though, so who knows?

    i tried terra mystica and it was so complex like the 1st move alone is very important you really need to calculate every move manage resources its a popular and a great game but i really dont like the art, though the new version Age of Innovation looks better i might get this one. After reading alot of things about Dune Uprising,i think Dune Imperium w/ rise of ix expansion is a better game just because its easier to teach thats my only reason why i wont buy uprising.

    I played Nemesis lockdown 30 hours on steam and 5 games on live and i come to conclusion that is an horrible game, it is useless heavy, it is so random that one moment you are doing good and moments later you die (or kind of), it is slow and the fact that is a semi coop make it bad from the co-op side and from the non-co-op side. In the game you spend time wondering around and almost doing nothing except for 2 or 3 actions. I believe that if you want a similar vibe but in a game that is 100 times better then try Clank: catacombs, because is a better exploration game in every single aspect, it is chaotic and random yes but it is manageble and lasts half the time of nemesis Lockdown with more tension, expecially in the end when you try to leave the dungeon after someone else died or left. Try Nemesis on steam first before waste money and i get it that nemesis has miniatures and stuff but at the end of the days is just a clunky game that is too long and it feels long. On the other hand Dune Imperium is my favorite game and the most played on steam and live, it has a HIGH skill cap and if you try on steam against AI at the beginning it will be hard to win at the easiest level, now after 60 hours i delete AI at hard mode. In the summer there will be the rise of ix expansion for the digital version on steam but i love Dune imperium with or without expansions, the only negative side of dune imperium base game, for me, is that there are 6 card that tend to block the card market (2 drone, 2 warriors, 2 recruiters) because they are bad cards and nobody wants to buy them, so i suggest to remove this cards or implement a rule from immortality (the family nuke) that give every player the ability to remove all the cards in the market and replace it with 5 new cards once per game. Dune imperium is a masterpiece and at the begining i didn't even like the game until a reviewer on YT said something that changed my mind and that is that in dune imperium you can't plan everything because sooner or later your plans will be blocked by someone or something, so you have to be good at change your strategy (at least in the short term) to adapt and there are possible ways to do so, just depends on the player to find them. Sry about my english Cheers I didn't realize that the 2 games that i spoke highly are made by the same guy (Paul Dennen).... so maybe he knows how to develop a good game ;)

      @CrunchyCozyGames 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's another vote for Dune Imperium! I'm not too worried about the skill ceiling because we'll likely just play with people we know. I can absolutely see what you mean about Nemesis as well. I've watched playthroughs of that game that end in total disaster but I've also seen some that appear to be very dynamic. I'll add Clank Catacombs to the list of games to check out! Thanks!
