Happens all the time in Formula E. The fans nominate a driver at the end of every race. The drivers hate it.

Sure there are some real buttasses, but when was the last time an amateur drove the Indianapolis oval.

Thank goodness it didn't happen and with the penalty it came with that they didn't do it!

@@Gage_Brumley It is pretty solid, but with the forces, I don’t see it impossible to knock down. I just know whoever hits it is probably dead, especially if in the lead as they will fall back down on the other cars. I wish Indy was redesigned. A lot of gripes I have ab it. Like the fact that it’s a oval, but it’s hard to watch a race there as everything obstructs ur view. It would be the most ideal track for me to go to as it’s the closest, but I never have as it’s just hard to watch a race there.

@@tamezzodiac2862 Exactly sight lines at Indy are by far the worst for any oval track. It's essentially an speedway with the grandstand layout of a Formula One track. Not to mention all the safety issues, like the attenuator, pylon, no safer barriers along the pitch wall or short chutes... they could maybe solve the pylon issue by installing a catch fence along the pitch wall, but regardless it's still a dangerous place

He did hit it in 1994 during practice. The car spun off of turn four, hit the inside wall and made contact with the attenuator with his right rear wheel while coming to rest in the pit lane.

Glad someone else thinks this, I've wondered for years why they haven't changed moved the end of the wall back towards turns 3 or 4

To be fair you scrub off more speed sliding into it now then if it was in the middle of three somewhere

It doesn't matter how much speed you scrub off you are still going 220 at indy. Imo the entire inside wall needs reconfiguring

I think at this point with how safe everything is I dont think you’ll ever see something serious happen unless someone gets turned into that wall at 220+

Its a pit wall, what else can they do? A tire barrier is all they can do.

@Hammer hand Tire barriers are nice because they take the impact and are soft enough to lessen the impact for the driver. Think they also scrub off speed at a slower rate that it does not whiplash you as bad. You do not want to come to a sudden stop when you hit any barrier.
