Blog of my Small Engine Repair Hobby. and I do some tool, and equipment reviews. Additional I do a few minor Auto repairs. Some yard equipment are complete junk, some are trash to treasure. Always exciting to figure out what was wrong with it and how to fix it. When I have new videos, they will be up at 7am Saturday. The About.me picture isn't really a picture of me. WHIRLPOOL/ROPER dryer
Whirlpool model WED5340SW0 ? One tag did say this but another Tag says ROPER model RED4440VQ1. But console says Whirlpool
Found this in the free pile near where I am. The owner has posted for free and was moving and upgraded the dryer to a new one. I figured since I have a family member who has a dryer that needs a part but that part cost more then the dryer is worth in running condition because of how old it is (36+ years old Kenmore).
Figured I would check it out and see if it was something simple. Normally I just leave it on curb. In this situation I decided to figure out what was wrong with the dryer.
It was a blown Thermal Fuse part : 3392519 or wp3392519. It burned out because of how clogged up the dryer vent was and it must of got too hot.
Note: the light bulb inside the dryer appears to be broken , I decided not to fix the light bulb since it does not impact function of drying cloths.
I ordered a 5 pack of thermal fuses for apx 3.40 USD on eBay at the time of this video. My own personal dryer use the same part. So I have some spares around now
Tools used:
- 1/4 nut driver or socket set
- Screw driver
- Needle nose plyers
- Gloves
- Multi meter

Pull the camera back dude.
Useless video. I need instructions on how to start
directions to start it are right on the side of gas tank. also see the associated video. Basically I took it apart fixed it and put it back together
Just got one for free from someone. Looks great. All the lady said was that it ran last year. I smelled the gas and it was sweet smelling and kinda reminded me of a paint thinner type smell almost. It was very yellow though. Not sure if it was mixed with something like a stabilizer or if its just really old/bad gas. I have the day off tomorrow and will be messing with it. I emptied the gas and oil while at work. Oil was dark and greyish. Hadnt been changed in a while most likely just added oil when needed. Im pretty positive I'll get it running without too much of a problem. Hoping to not have to take off the carb but will if it needs it. Thanks for the video! Its going to be a big help if I need to clean the carb. Its been a while!
@@ksajak yah it’s likely bad gas and carb clean don’t forget to clean gas tank
@dfields9511 yea I just got done watching another of your videos and you described some old gas the same exact way I did so yea definitely bad gas. I knew it was soon as I smelled it but man this stuff was bad! I'll go through it all tomorrow and see how she runs. Seems the carb is very easy to take off and apart so I'll just most likely just clean it. Thanks again!

@@GwainAutomotive yes the car has 4 o2 sensors b1s1 , b1s2, b2s1, b2s2 . In this case I had to replace both sensors on bank 2.

@@thekidbart4528 typically means there could be a loose connector under the seats. If you have a lot of junk under the seats it can do that.
Thanks for the video!
I like the vintage Craftsman the best! I would've kept it too.
yep 50 years old, and still runs like a clock. on its 2nd deck that is period correct.
Where was it made ?
package and the filter does not state where it was made.
Yeah right , be nice to know who made it for kmart USA and id say it was Fram . The company that made mine J.B.Morgan & Co. pty ltd 1154 Sydney rd Fawkner Victoria under license to FRAM corporation Providence RI usa . Google street view the address and you will see a derilect factory , small sign out on wall J B morgan . just like so many australian manufacturing companies closed and gone due to overseas made items , very sad indeed . Print / artwork on mine differs from yours. The filter is a piece of history from a era when people were real do it yourselfers . people collect all kinds of things and there are filter collectors out there .
Yah it would be nice , somebody commented puralator. Earlier based on its design but wasn’t sure.
Where do the short and long primer bulb connections go to? One I think goes to the carb and one to the tank as a gas return but which ones?
@@trouts4444 I no longer have this blower I sold it but perhaps this video will help you of when I replaced the carb and fuel Lines th-cam.com/video/2tH1Q28d9BM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=X7VvSQArlNBxrtU- Basically if the primer does not fill up with gas , likely got the lines reversed
Camera angles are so bad.
then you create your own video, this was shot on a iPhone and I don't have a camera man employed. Also this was the first Alternator I have ever changed by myself solo.
My carb is brand new and it’s surging any recommendations cause cleaning isn’t an option?
@@majesticvalleypacas sometimes you can play with the idle level. I haven used a aftermarket Tecumseh carb yet , I know the aftermarket for briggs and Honda work fine . Also make sure the carb is for your machine. I have used a carb from one tecumesh engine type OHV and wouldn’t work correctly flat head model
That’s funny about the spark plug being unplugged I have found lawnmowers in the trash for that reason cause not everyone is smart like us when it comes to fixing lawnmowers I have found a good amount of lawnmowers in the trash this year I found a toro with the same engine as this in a dumpster it needed a cable in put one on from a parts machine and it started right now people throw away lawnmowers for dumb reasons
I know this one they gave away because they hadn't used it in several years, apparently had a lawn service. don;t know why the spark plug was disconnected, I am glad they ran it out of gas when the put it up.
@@dfields9511 they probably unplugged it and forgot about it and yes that’s good when people drain the gas the Toro I found with the same engine they also drain the gas that’s why it started right up after I put the new cable on
Nice work
Sounds like you have the same transmission as my 05 Cadillac. I used Lucas stop slip it really smoothed it out.
Unless it was a JATCO RE4F04B It was different. It’s possible they used that transmission in other cars as well
Im having shifting issues on my 99 v6 accord especially when it warms up, I drained it twice and both times it came out like cherry wine colored and its supposed to be translucent red, its got 196k miles, but the tranny probably has maybe 90k on it, i had a tranny swap with a used one that had 30k on it about 8 years back, i had it put on when it was around 120 to 130k, think seafoam will help? Feels like the torque converter is having issues changing gears, theres times that i drive and shifts good and then other times itl try to shift then throw itself into nuetral, and as it slows down you can feel the tranny trying to shift
Getting ready to do my '19 Passport, so I'm checking out all of the videos I can find. What I have found out, personally, in doing other cars I've owned is the hardware is much easier to deal with if you remove the caliper bracket. A lot easier to clean, too. And, the spring wires only go on one way...even I couldn't mess that up!😉😆
@@jimsanders4412 yep this was the first time I have seen those spring that help to retract the pads like that. When I did the rear brakes I got much better at it. There is another channel that is pretty good @Dial2Fast his videos are on Honda Odyssey
Do you replace the filter too? Or wait till after the flush
the filter on this is in a place where its hard to get to and basically you only replace it if the transmission or engine has been removed. On the Honda Ridgerline circa 2017 and later they have a inline filter on the cooling lines you change and is external to the transmission. My Honda 2007 Odyssey I have never changed the Transmission Filter. and I have over 248k miles. Only use Honda DW1 or Idemitsu type H+ Fluid. how you do a flush is change the Fluid 3 times with a Drive Cycle between each. Never use a Flush Machine
yes under the gas tank there is a spring that connects to a metal tab. you can bend the metal tab to make the spring tighter which raises the idle. this is commonly how the ide is raised on most small engines. be careful not to make it idle too high or you will blow the engine. I personally would first clean the carb first and make sure the air filter is clean or new first before bending the overriding metal tab. this engine is a very common 140cc Briggs engine. using on alot of lawnmowers, from TroyBilt, Craftsman, Bolens, Murray, Toro, and numerous others also if your trying to mow at 1 inch thats insane your likely hit something and break FW key you can try to keep the side discharge open or rear flap open so the grass clears the deck right away but you run the risk of getting hit by it.. if your trying to detatch your yard ,get a electric detacher/scarifier
I can't find anything on this mower but I'd possible to rise the idel I'm try too mow my lawn down to #1 setting but it clogs up and stalls out it'll go good on #3
yes is possible to raise the idle you will have to bend a tap that connects to the govern spring. but my question is why, if your down that low. if its clogging up open the rear discharge and hold it open with a rope or bungy cord.
@dfields9511 my grass is too thick I'm try to cut it down to 1" it's 4" now when I lower it down it stalls out at first pass I can cut 2" at a time but I'm trying to cut down the passes I want 1" so I can reseed it
Nice work on the murray mower there.
thanks, this was a trade in that well they were going to throw it out, but then they saw my sales posting that I accept trade-ins as credit towards purchase. and that hooked them in. they got a craftsman self propelled with bag for this along along with some cash for me. it keeps my inventory stocked when its low at times. at worst is good for parts.
If the listing on the went up to 1982, the filter is no younger than 1982 making it 42 years or possibly a bit younger than that. I still have a K-Mart branded under car creeper in my shop. I had lots of K-Mart auto products back in the day. Thanks for the flashback.
@@holyfamilychannel It was a flash back for me also. I remembered my mom’s car yellow b210 I believe
Do a comparison with today's similar one from China. Probably made better back in the day.
See th-cam.com/video/97bm0ZXMMUQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=BRPns4RVPi3QNJgA This was a ppg4612 filter that the Honda dealer used on a oil change
2870A was used very recently on gm v6s used to see them all the time on Buicks.
You remind me of me.....
@@DennisMiscannon I know this one was painful. Things all just fell apart and didn’t know exactly where everything went. I don’t work on Honda’s that much. They just don’t break down enough for me to find them on curb. However in 2024 I happened to pick up maybe 4 of them. And they all were very smooth easier fixed thanks to this one.
Back then Sears branded stuff was usually pretty good and made here in the USA! Champion Labs has been making filters with many brand labels for a long time.
could be I was thinking it was Purolator, I personally use SuperTech (Champ Labs , USA) and Purolator for my cars. the Older SuperTech of many many years ago, filters were made by WIX
Bro i used the regular seafom not the trans tune and it works wonder in my accord. I wonder why Seafoam need to make a separate product line for transmission if it is the same thing.
WOW a flash back to the past i have not seen a K - Mart oil filter in years and yes i have bought their K oil filters and K oil brand before .. That's when K - Mart was a big box store back in its days The K - mart auto center K- Mart tool brands K-Mart oil and oil filters and you could buy push mowers and lawn tractors and garden equipment
In Japan, the B210 was called "Sunny". I owned one with underdash A/C. That thing was simple to work on, got great fuel economy, and was reliable. Sold it for what I paid for it a year later.
@@HeinzGuderian_ if I remember correctly the car ran great the problem was across all Datsun of that time . They rusted out very badly where we lived at that time. Thank you for watching
The quality of this filter is right on A plus. Notice how thick the treated paper filter element is Sir. I would bet it could be used right out of the 44 year old package. Nice video fella too. vf

Back in the fall of 1982 I was 16 years old and had just gotten my drivers license and actually took a college class in FORTRAN at Monroe Community College in Monroe, Michigan. It was pretty stupid! In the evenings, two nights per week I would go there in my dad's 1980 Chevette. Dad of course, put K-Mart tires on his cars. And of course all the time we had flat tires. There was no construction going on in the area, they were just cheap tires. On both the Chevette AND mom's "Bimini beige" '77 Coupe de Ville d'Elegance, I stood on the side of the road and installed the spare tire. TWICE in one semester from September to December did I use the spare, and wound up late for class. My dad worked for Detroit Edison as and engineer at the Monroe power plant. We weren't wealthy people, but we certainly weren't poor and my opinion of my father is that he never understood the word "value". Yes, you can buy something very cheap, but if it lasts half as much as a product that costs 25% more, then you've lost money. The fact that he bought a Chevette at all should show this clearly~
Id think that was champ or lee.those both were big department store brands back then.
that k in kmart is still used in australia today
Ohh, there is only 1 small kmart left in the US
@@dfields9511 kmart and target have the same popularity here, kmart is basically everywhere
Looks like a Purolator. The string is the give-away.
With that string, it is probably a Purolator made filter, they are the main one that used a string like that. Also, if I had to guess, the metal disk on the base end is part of a bypass valve setup. I have seen several different styles of base end bypasses, but this one is different than any I have seen in the past. Or it may just be there to assist the ADV.
Video will be out on 10/19/2024 @7am
Next week’s video is a 44 year old sears oil filter cut open. It looks a lot better then this kmart filter
i believe that thin metal disk on top was a metal diaphragm used to aid the rubber drain back seal just enough pressure to help...lolol

Unfortunately, this part has been discontinued by Toro and I’m having problem to find out anywhere else. I have no problem with start this engine first pool even after winter storage I have checked engine compression. It showed me 120 psi dry and with squirting little bit of oil to the cylinder 150 psi so my ges is I have still strong engine and this lawnmower
Sometimes you can find stuff on eBay , used parts and new old stock. Good luck
Hi, do you have any idea if I can get this part TORO 94-1601 BRAKE ASSEMBLY for this lawnmower? I would like to fix mine because I love it. It is almost 30 years old and I haven’t had any issues with it at all😊
@@mitchdzik9420 my guess is eBay, Amazon, parts tree, eReplacement parts and other o line sellers , Perhaps Toro might carry it.
Check the oil level
I need to do this to my car I just got through putting four shocks all around on it got them from rock auto was $210 ($26 shipping) came out of Norcross, Georgia
yah Norcross GA has alot of warehouses and NAPA's big warehouse for all of Atlanta stores is there. that prices isn't bad. where they quick struts ( strut and spring combo) or just the strut. before I sold MadMax did a video on changing its rear struts for about $72 using quick struts off amazon which turned out to be Duralast
Don’t put it off too long or you can damage the internals specially the shift solenoids. But if you been good and it’s not having shifting problems a normal drain and fill should help. I know at times on my Honda odyssey I can detect when it’s going to need a service by how it drives. Then about 2-3 weeks later the Honda maintance minder told me to change the ATF. And could immediately tell the difference. On the ridgeline here this was just normal maintenance.
@dfields9511 every now and then I might have a little bit longer of a shift but not to bad
Actually works 2024 approved
good to know
Exactly the same problem, fixing now. Thankfully the resister, which wasn't the problem, was only $14.
I have 1 it works well❤
yes it does, I ended up selling this one. but I have a older one from the 1970s that still runs and cuts . a video of it is on my channel
