Biology of cockroach 2
Cockroaches are a diverse group, but their behavior is known primarily from laboratory studies of household pests. They serve as important models in a variety of fields, including locomotion, neurobiology, and chemical ecology. The widest range of comparative data exists for cockroach mating and social behavior. Mate selection involves a complex interaction between male competition and female choice. Social behavior in cockroaches is arguably the most diverse among insects, ranging from simple egg protection to long-term biparental care of altricial offspring in a nest. Social interactions profoundly influence individual physiology, giving insight into the evolution of caste control in their termite relatives.

Cockroaches are nocturnal animals. During the day they hide under wood, stones, loose bark, in sand, crevices and holes, and in the debris on the ground, etc. They come out of their abodes at night to hunt for food. They are omnivorous, feeding for the most part on small organisms and other small plants.

Ichthyophis is limbless organisms with scales on their body. It is also known as “blind-worm” because their eyes are covered by skin. The tentacles on their head are the chemosensory organs that help them to detect the underground prey. They possess venom glands. They secrete mucus to reduce water loss.
