      75 was his example WB temperature, the diagonal purple line, interpolated between 70 and 80. Plotting that line as it crosses the dry bulb temperature (vertical line at 95 degrees, allows you to then draw a horizontal line at that point, which is interpolating between 60 & 70, on the left, which is the dew point temp. @@otisgregory5939 in Indiana your heating load is considerably higher than your cooling load I assume. In this case you need a cold climate heat pump or dual fuel if using a traditional heat pump. Sounds like you have a traditional hp with electric heat. You can reduce how much strip heat by speeding up your fan in heating season, then lowering it using the dip switches for cooling season.

    • @HVAC_Tips_Tricks_Calcs
      @HVAC_Tips_Tricks_Calcs 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I asked him that (I think) last week. I did find a calculation but it has a few problems. Trying to find the actual inner film and outer film R-Values, and it doesn't account for radiant gain, which is really hard to calculate. So if you found the correct inner/outer R-values, in an attic, the surface temp calc would only calculate the bottom of the duct surface (not getting hit by radiant gain). What I think might be easiest, is simply one psychrometer in the duct, one in the space, and a k-type thermocouple slipped through a slot in the insulation and stuck to the duct itself gives you the information that you need to decide on a solution that Tim recommends.

I thought about diy but said nah it can’t be that expensive right? Two local hvac guys came out and priced the furnace at $6k and $8. For a few hours work I said thanks but no thanks. I called one of our service guys and they came out on a Sunday morning and I paid them $1500 for labor and miscellaneous metal .I bought the unit myself for $1000+/- . It’s clear that people are overcharging and blame inflation to justify their greed . Look everyone has to be successful especially in contracting . Our average markup on bids was 15% . Thanks for the video, great info. My wife and I just finished building our house this year and went with the Bosch 18 seer units. We have a 5 ton outdoor unit paired with a 4 ton indoor air handler and a 3 ton outdoor unit paired with a 3 ton air handler. I see you talk alot about setting the units up to properly dehumidify in the video, but you don’t mention anything about cost savings on the monthly electric bill. I assume the way you set up your unit would also be the best way for energy usage cost savings on the monthly electric bill? My units will typically run for about 20 minutes and then will shut off, and the airflow that comes out of the registers to cool my house is pretty strong. And mine only are set up for 1 stage of cooling. With these inverter units, I can’t help but think that if the units ran longer at a lower compressor speed and/or a lower fan speed, then I would see greater savings on my monthly electric bill, and would also achieve better dehumidification like you mention. So I’ve just been trying to figure out if my units are setup properly and if I’m getting the maximum energy savings I should be getting out of these units, but I’m not really sure how to determine that.

    I was thinking of doing something similar, but I was concerned about corrosion. The chart below says that stainless-steel & copper risk galvanic corrosion especially given how much moisture there is around HVAC units. engineersvault.blogspot.com/2007/02/galvanic-bi-metal-corrosion.html

    I do commercial HVAC controls and my company does mechanical installations. I'm DIYing my next unit myself. I can get an inverter heatpump system for the price I'd pay someone to install the cheapest lowest SEER system. I've been through the Mitsubishi classes and got certified on them. For people with the know how I think DIY is a great option, but I agree for most homeowners it might be over their head. The units are getting more complicated as well and that's where having a contractor can be a good thing.
