#psychrometricsaturday My basic rules for sizing an AC: 1. Find a range of equipment matchups and airflows that get you very close to Total MBH. 2. Have barely enough Sensible. 3. Have more than enough Latent. 4. Apply 50% of excess latent capacity towards sensible. 5. One year later what's the status on this project? Have you managed to lower the CO2 levels?
Yes, I use an IFTTT automation to open my outside damper and my levels control between 600 and 900 ppm. I just moved the Air things into the master bedroom and I want to compare Co2 there with my living room. Stay tuned!
I've worked in data centers where monitoring systems on cooling are beyond anything... Maybe except for nuclear plants and a few other application. Anyhow, THIS channel is what I wish I had found before buying my AC unit earlier this year. NOW I am left with my own self patching a few wires here and there to tap into so home automation... You'd be an insanely good contributor to the "home assistant" community.
I'll eventually get there thanks!
Great video, thanks for showing us how it works.

Really awesome video! Could you please do something like this for dual fuel (gas/heat pump) settings?
I really appreciate this video as I just bought a house with the Bosch 7739832068 heat pump and brought with me an ecobee premium from my previous home which had a typical gas furnace system. But I believe the install for the system might be incorrect because when I go through the wiring screen on the ecobee telling it which wires are hooked up, it tells me it’s an unusual setup. I’ve had 2 different HVAC people out including the company who installed the system a year ago before I bought the house. Neither place knew much about the ecobee and therefor weren’t much help in telling me if it was all setup right in the settings. What worries me most is that I feel like the wiring might be wrong. I only have Y, G, C, O/B, W2, and R. And the company who installed the system but not the ecobee that I brought with me wasn’t sure if the W Wire went to W1 or W2 so he put it on W2. But I also wonder if I shouldn’t have a Y2 wire. All I get is HEAT and AUX STAGE 1 HEAT. Shouldn’t there be more stages? I’d really love your insight on my system since the 2 local places I paid to come and look at it didn’t seem to know what they were doing very well. Can I contact you somehow? I could pay if need be to get your help.
Outdoor unit is supposed to be higher than 6” above floor
@@cmarquez1523 oh really? Show me where it says that in the manual.
Great video. I guess it doesn’t matter the evap coil is bigger with a variable speed compressor because it can control the saturation temp. With a single stage compressor a larger evap coil isn’t good for latent capacity because the larger coil gives it a larger temp/pressure? Is this correct?
@@sirfishalot6992 no the larger coil improves latent and adds seer
Thanks! A cliff hanger!
You made this video Jan of 2022, but do you remember if the compressor was a single stage, two stage, or an inverter? I am currently starting up a 24,000 btu comfort aire inverter heat pump. Vacuum below 500 microns broke the vacuum with about 4 oz of R410A, and have not added any additional refregerant. Just been running it and watching the numbers.. My approuch is 11 degrees..The seven segment display on the HP circuit board in charge mode shows high subcooling 56 degrees it calls for 36 degrees in heat mode. All the other numbers look ok. Furnace blower on high. There seems to be alot of control going on with a inverter heat pump. The delta T accross the indoor coil 16 to 20 degrees.

Hi Tim. I assume you are using Ecobee. I am asking because Ecobee can't handle inverter systems. Yes, Ecobee works with IDS 2.1 but I don't think you get the full benefit of the system.
@@molk17 who says? Its 24V controls
Where is the video for heat? My bosch system is screaming like a banshee with a ecobee 3 lite and having the HVAC installers back to check again. Just not doing what I think it should be doing as a invertor heat pump. getting bewtween 10-20 min run times. Just changed heat differential to 1.5 degrees instead of 1. How are sensors utilized or do u not use them?
@@mrc5980 they are louder in heat. The compressor has to run in a high speed periodically for oil return.
Just one question though I am sure you are talking about super heat at the evaporator coil right, not at the condenser coil
Superheat is evap. Subcooling is condenser.

@timdestasiohvac Thanks for the great videos! 7.57 Latent (equipment cap.) - 5.1 Latent (load calc)=2.47 Latent excess cap. in the equipment. 2.47 x 50%= 1.24 extra latent capacity to add to the sensible equipment cap. 25.3 equipment cap. + 1.24 Latent excess= 26.5 latent cap. for the equipment. 26.5 sensible (equipment cap/NEW) / 27.4 sensible (load calc)= The new equipment will satisfy 97% of the sensible requirement. I thought I learned somewhere that Manual J(load calculation) has a built-in overestimate? Maybe 10%? Is this correct? If there is an overage(safety factor) in the load calc., the 3% shortage probably won't even be noticed and in reality may not be present. The building heat load will be satisfied by the equipment and occupants will be very comfortable. Really enjoy all your content and building science videos! Thanks again.

Great video! I've been trying to figure out how to remotely monitor whether my oil boiler is tripped out on safety, but this doesn't seem to be a thing anyone has ever implemented?? Do you have any ideas? It trips once a week or so, but techs and service don't seem to be able to fix it. I can't find any issues myself either, but it's winter and I need to be able to monitor if it trips before the house goes cold.
