GM MDI 2 function test, working unit vs non-working unit.
GM MDI II device test. The first unit purchased is non-functional, does not communicate with the vehicle properly. the second unit purchased is functional, communicating with the vehicle properly. Both devices were tested on the same vehicle, with the same computer and program.
Notice the different labeling on the back of the devices. Also the different logo on the front. Also, the non-working unit is heating up.

Would be great if they did some pre-quality checks prior to selling the components to consumers. What a waste of time and money. Thanks for the video.

Two questions......did the one MDI2 *EVER* work on an older, Class 2 bus vehicle? Sounds to me like it is a China clone, which is basically an MDI in a fake MDI2 case. I had the same problem with the first one I purchased. Would not work in either of my older Class 2 based vehicles (a Camaro and a LS swapped Jeep), but WOULD work in my gf's Saturn....which is newer and uses GMLAN. I ended up returning it and getting a clone MDI 1, which worked fine on the older cars, but has low speed GMLAN issues in the NEWER car running Tech2Win. Don't know if there are any issues with GDS2. Where did you get both units from?
