Diggin' the art style you're doing for your game.

If the objects are seperate, but you give them the same action in the action editor all objects follow the action keyframes. So when you make the keyframes for the stick in the action editor and the rig is also set as that action thre rig will do the same transforms and rotations as the stick.

Weight painting is actually super easy once you get the basic idea of how it works, glad you figured it out! You don't even have to use automatic weights either, you can parent the bones to the mesh with automatic EMPTY weights so you can just skip the messy auto-weight-paints and paint them yourself :) that's what I do!

With something as simple as that start with empty weight paints and use edit mode and select+assign parts that wont need weight painted bending parts after you can hide the body and head to then pain the arms without interference
