Gentle warm-up routine for opera singers (for when you’ve had a “little” too much time off)
มุมมอง 2.6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Hey there! This is just a quick video discussing something I have had on my mind for a while. One of the things I noticed when I began performing again, having been off for so long was that it took me a little while to get back into the swing of things. I don’t know about you, but when I’ve been off for a bit, be it from vacation, or perhaps sickness, or anything else you might thing of, I alwa...

Here are just a few quick recommendations of some really good technique materials. They don’t take very long to read, but they are full of wonderful information, and great exercises to use at any stage in your vocal development. How to deal with disappointment (not just for opera singers!!)
มุมมอง 8173 ปีที่แล้ว
Living Opera hosts an online master class we like to call the "Vocal Lab". It's a great time where we talk vocal technique for 45 minutes, and then we get into serious subjects for 15 minutes. Last time we talked about how to deal with disappointment and it got REAL. We actually ended up going way over time, but it was important! We hope that this short video helps YOU today as well. Make sure ...

God with all my respect; you talked and talked, even to your husband? what about your " audience"...your trick? I don't even know; thanks😢
Truly great video! 🤩🙏🏻😊
Probably futile to comment on such an old video but I have to ask: How low is the larynx on this? I mean, I feel like I'm starting to get a half-way decent Bb (which is totally new and exciting for someone who always sang Bass 2 in choir) but my larynx is super low, like I can fit 2 wide fingers between my jaw and Adam's apple and only one between my Adam's apple and clavicle. Is that me forcing it way too far down? I know I have a lot of weight to shed from singing bass for years.
My biggest problem is straining, sometimes after high notes (f5, g5,a5..) I have a sore throat. That is badd😢 How to work with the throat? Very nice video💞
Actually wearing heels does matter. The only time I wore flat shoes the agent asked me why I chose to wear them...(an agent in Berlin)
She probably scream alot on that man
very helpful thanks so much!
Thank you Norm, these have been a new piece in my music warm up practice sesh. 🙏
Saw this years ago. The leading lady wasn't quite as slender as some and more or less waddled down some hidden steps rather than leaping. It was still a great performance, though.
Just finding this today in a random search! I LOVE it! I'll be doing some "archive diving" for more great bits. THANK YOU!
Not the first to say this, but guys, pleeeeeease turn the background music off! I can only just hear you talking!
Why is she interrupting him so much? Thanks for the lesson though
Please don’t interrupt the other! Norman most tenors like me need help with the passagio. Help us work through it to the upper register. Please don’t apologize for being just singers but not pedagogues. The only people I’ve ever learned from has been singers, never trainers. (I’ve had several). Also, you bring up the resonance, point to your cheeks and think we understand. Walk us through that and illustrate it. Then Norman, if you can “ cover “ show us how to develop that ability.
You had to fight cancer and reconsider your priorities in life. But daring to share such a dire period is even more courageous and insightful. I shared your suffering. This could be material to write your own opera booklet! Glad you’re now all smiles!
Soula! Gorgeous! Riveting! I’m Vikram Srinivas, a fellow Canadian and aspiring opera singer, at UofT for voice. I’m so happy to hear you in such a beautiful rendition of this aria. I hope you keep posting your singing journey from now on. And I’m so happy to hear more recordings of you singing (and hopefully see you in person one day).
su emisión ea abierta, lo ideal es los agudos cubiertos
Found this after seeing you’ll be artist in residence at my Alma mater! This hits home as too much pressure has always been an issue for me. I love the idea of singing before the inhale feels like it’s anything substantial, almost catching it before the body is aware enough to start its habit. Looking forward to checking more if these out. Check out my whistling!!
What is background music doing there? 😳
Thank you for your valuable time to share your experience, It seems to me that when proper appoggio is established singing becomes natural production and a simple process.
This should be titled - "How not to present a TH-cam video"
😊
I appreciate your videos and think your teamwork is great! But I may have missed it somehow I listen to the video twice… did you guys come out and say whether or not you should use a low larynx or the mask or both? It wasn’t clear to me?
Thank you for sharing this video. I'm an older tenor who hopes to sing something beautiful this Christmas. My biggest challenge is breath. Without a solid foundation in breath, it's hard to build a healthy technique. Thank you for sharing this!
"Glottals are a skill in and of themselves." (glottal) "Yes!" We are rolling in the aisles out here. Keep it up.
I finished listening to your session with Stay At Home Choir. I love your positive approach and your optimism. Your conversation with Tori Longdon, (who is equally positive and optimistic) sent me here to your youtube channel. I will love having you in my youtube feed from now! on I was not a lover or a hater of opera. Since our project singing "Brindisi" from La Traviata, and listening to your wonderful conversation with Tori, I am ready to fully open my heart to opera! Your singing is magical. Thank you, Soula.
Thanks for the suggestions and advice
Love your channel! <3 Thank you!

Wooow ,great❤Brava!!!
Thank you for sharing. 👍
I hope Francesca was paid for this.
Sorry, couple, ah...no matter you would be the best in the world..ah...you are not...ah....ah... I ah...ah.. it is " impossible" being concentrated.. ah...with " maestros" do not allow me " concentrate .ah...ah...in the lessons..ah...ah Unbearable..ah...aah..the " interruptions" all the time.. ah...ah sorry, as a humble " opera student"..ah...ahh..I consider..it is a lack of respect ... ah...ah...ah...thanks. I saw an extraordinary video of the really " big ones"; Pavarotti, Tibaldi...etc.etc. talking about " Bell canto technique.." the awesome respect among them to go talking...surprised me. It is not only being " Opera singer" it is also " culture" ah...ah...
If you use your passagio and no one can tell it's there, does it really exist? Yes, but I do all I can to keep it a secret. I practice with that in mind.
Beautifully performed.👌. Pavarotti qualities in tone, not forced but produced with amazing timbre.👏
Thank you 👌
Uhhhhh! So original....lip trills...😅😅
Sorry; the video is " friendly" you are talking to the piano, ah, to your fellow,,,ah, but not to us. You do this but you do not do it. A big of " dignity" for learners, ah... constant " interruptions", ah... Better you both have a cofee talking a lot and then - with respect..ah... let us know a bit about your experience.. ah...thanks...ah
😂😂😂
Grazie mille
Thank you👍
