Hi, guys!
Having bought what was described as a 1951 Motobécane U46C on Ebay to restore, I learned very quickly that the actual model is a Z54C.
The good news is that the engine runs really well, albeit a bit smokey... the bad news is that the electrical harness to the horn, lights & cutoff are absent. The rear suspension has been serviced but appears to have been reassembled incorrectly, among other 'issues'...
Most of what we see is surface rust and poor paint jobs of over 65 years or so...
This blog is a record of my trials & tribulations... wish me luck! (and constructive advice is ALWAYS welcome!)

Dacia Duster TCe 100 4x2 Bi-Fuel LPG 10 month owner's review
มุมมอง 1.8Kปีที่แล้ว
After 10 months and putting 14,600 miles into my first ever new car, my Duster LPG... I'm still loving it. 50mpg on petrol; 40 on LPG and at 72.9p per litre of LPG and filling up on £35 in a near 50 litre tank... that's bloody good. Anyway, I'd wholeheartedly recommend the Bi-Fuel option. The Dacia reviews suggest over 700 miles on the two tanks... I'd calculate my current economy at 400 miles ...

Night Spin in Elmo, my 1969 Triumph Spitfire Mk3... Sorry about the poor quality 😔👎

One of my wee pleasures is, after doing some jobs on Elmo, to go for a late evening spin. The double stainless steel exhaust does drown out much of my recount of the list of jobs I have logged that need doing. Sorry! 😔👎 I've had the car two months but as I say int he video, Elmo is my 4th Mk3 Spitfire and probably the tidiest, externally, having had a respray at some point int he past five or s...

Been meaning to do a short video about my new LPG Duster... Not the best of quality, sadly, but I will improve! Please feel free to comment or pose questions as I know that most videos about my car are by 'reviewers' rather than actual owners. I'm biased because I love the car and it's pretty much everything I'd hoped it would be!

My 1951 French Motobécane Z54C Partial Restoration
มุมมอง 2.2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Ok, I received the Z54C in the summer of 2017 (I think!?) with he intention of restoring him. After two years and many hours of graft, he's mostly done. He needs more work to finish him off but I've no more time and haven't touched him on two years... he needs a new, caring home. Enjoy! Music: Perpetuum Mobile by The Penguin Café Orchestra

Very clean laptop with very minor marks on the lid but the screen is very clean. It has a 10 point touchscreen which is very responsive. The battery life is very good. I get upwards of 6-8hrs depending on usage mode. It has Windows 10 ready to go which is registered to this laptop as a second user/refurb. I've decided to go back to my MacBook Air, otherwise this is a great little laptop.

Thank you for sharing, what size is this bayonet 10m or 12m to fit duster.
How much petrol does it spend on a full tank of LPG?
Annoyingly, dacia removed the exhaust tip and the duster word thats on the passenger side dash. Would mind but its just a blank space now where it was.
Interesting vid. Im on my 3rd duster, and waiting delivery of a new Duster extreme auto (edc) and like you absolutely love them😁
snap...just got my extreme....just off to get some lpg.
Good video ,sound shocking
How much extra is the lpg version to buy in the first place
Nothing.
Oh my goodness, I saw a red Mk3 Spitfire yesterday. You're not driving around North Liverpool are you?
You may want to do some editing to this video, your actual address isn't hard to work out -
Is the CARPlay wired or wireless?
Charging extortionate money for others work imo. Well done
What’s the view on buying one of these now? LPG seems to be being phased out by some garage chains. I’ve seen a second hand 2021 lpg duster but wondering if I will fe able to get lpg in the future…
I'm thinking of getting a 2021 bi fuel, is yours a 2022 model?
Very good Eóin. I loved my Psion's back in the day and just picked up a mint condition 3a. I'm just waiting for an RS232 lead so I can talk to the thing - it's hard to go back to an offline PDA, I need to know anything I put on it can be backed up! As for games, there's only so much Patience one can play, so what Speccy games would you recommend? I know that's a tough question because each to their own, but are there any standout titles you've found work well on this hardware?
Thanks for the video it's great. Looking to buy a second hand inr on the weekend
Leave these machines where they shone. In the ancient past.
I had (still have) an Oregon Scientific Osaris back in the very early 2000's that I had running a ZX Spectrum emulator on. It was OK for slow games, such as text adventures or some isometric games, but anything fast paced was a blur on the screen, because the refresh rate was a bit rubbish. And I really needed to have it run from a power supply, so I could use the back light when running the games. Was great at the time, now just a bit of a curiosity.

Sooo... turn your volume up, then!?
i got my Duster last week asnd gassed it up ist time 3 days ago. i enjoy driving it . holding the button in to fuel it is a chore but heigh-ho. It rides well and is great on some pretty crap Fenland rds around here. Why do people buy electric when you can go autogas?? i do not understand this !
I agree entirely, Jules! I sometimes have to drive a bit to fill up but it's worth it. I've saved hundreds over the past year. Also, I ran a full tank of petrol the other week and got 550 miles out of the 50 litres. That makes unto 1,000 miles from the two tanks. It's a no-brainer! 👌😉
@@eoinstechhobbychannel-eoin6609 With the price of petrol coming down here v, (i pay 1,45 petrol and 80 for gas )it makes it not so bad running it on petrol either . i get , it says! , 42 mpg on petrol and with diesel at £1.69 , it a bit of difference . I run it on gas for that gives 63 mpg and its got to be better than using electric!. like yourself , i see it as a no brainer!. Why the big push to electric is neyond me? its expensive and its not working too well either considering a lot of people could never have one.
Yeah, given the dropping of the cost of petrol, it's not as expensive to run, compared to last year. However, at 80p per litre gas and petrol still at £1.44 per litre petrol, and given the difference in MPG for both, it's still much cheaper on gas. Thing is, you and I have the choice as I intend visiting Europe more often, it'll prove even more economical.@@julesdowner5585
@@eoinstechhobbychannel-eoin6609 its cheaper on gas and it gives no emissions, so a feel good factor there. Auto gas had gone up to 85p a litre and it does 33mpg on gas as opposed to 44mpg on petrol but still its not so bad . I also got it for last year there was a few fuel shortages and with bi-fuel you get twice the chance of getting fuel should it happen again . i fancy visiting Europe too , but i'm not sure if i'm brave enough! ha, plus, as a gas vehicle it can't be taken through the channel tunnel
Woah, that’s possible? Want! Perfect choices of games for the demo. Bravo.
Thanks Lee... let me know if you're interested in anything Psion/Spectrum 👌😉
Just ordered a slate grey bi fuel today. Due into dealer 22.11.22.
Excellent choice, buddy! Which one? I’ve the Prestige. I filled up yesterday (39litres for £27!). I’ll get 400 miles out of that 👌😉
Thanks for this, very informative. I pick up my bifuel Duster in this colour in the next couple of weeks. I can't wait 🙂
Evening, Bev and. Thanks 🙏 for the accolade! I’ve had my Duster since Mid/Late April. I’ve already put just over 11k on the clock as it’s so cheap to run. I bought this as my first ever brand new car and intend hanging on to it till he effectively gives up the ghost, Bev. I absolutely love the car! On a full LPG tank, I’ll get up to 440 miles (48-ish litres). Petrol appears to be more economical on MPG but of course, is over twice the price (nearly £1 more per litre!). You won’t regret it. Have you ordered the Prestige model? 🤔
@@eoinstechhobbychannel-eoin6609 I think we've got the Comfort version. It's a Motability car so we get a new one every three years. It's our first Duster, we've always had Citroens in the past but the advance payment for those has gone through the roof since covid so we switched to the Dacia range as they offered bifuel with a reasonable advance payment option. We ordered it back in May but there has been a bit of a delay which seems to be the norm now and we really can't wait to start saving on the fuel.
@@BevviiD ordered mine in November and arrived, I think, 20-ish March. So, seems about right. It arrived a few weeks ahead of schedule, too. 😉👌 On longer journeys you’ll need to check out where the LPG stations are, Bev. Not as many as I’d like but still between 60p and £1 cheaper than petrol per litre. I drove my girls around to do the National Three Peaks challenge in the summer. About 900 miles of driving in 48hrs on about £75 of LPG. 😉👌
How has it been after a year. I'm thinking of buying one this summer. If you don't mind me asking.
Does it have LED headlights ?
Yup 👍
Great video, I've covered 4.5k mls primarily on lpg. Car is same spec and colour. I'm also going to do a video at some point as I've had the filler point changed too 👍
It was the best decision I’ve ever made, as regards modern cars. Filling up on £35 is just a dream compared to nearly £90 on petrol. What do you mean, you’ve had the filler point changed too? 🤔
@@eoinstechhobbychannel-eoin6609 its amazing isn't it, can't remember the last time I see litres go up quicker than the price! I went to an LPG conversion place and they changed the filler to a permanent bayonet fitting. It's so much easier to just put the pump on and fill, my partner had no confidence in using the adapter and on a couple of occasions have got stuck to it due to it unscrewing. Cost me £120 and was done in about 45 mins to an hour.
@@rob12841 That seems a good idea... my only concern would be the compatibility with European adapters!? Does this limit you? 🤔
@@eoinstechhobbychannel-eoin6609 I'm in the UK 99.9% of the time. But travelling abroad you'd just use an adapter just like motorhome people do. I'd take my own set but apparently in Europe most garages let you use one if needed.
By the way... it's the TEMP gauge that's stopped working, not the fuel gauge! I fixed the fuel gauge (needed a new float as the original was taking in petrol!). 👍 Sorry about the poor sound quality... I've not got a very loud, projecting voice over the two steel exhausts! 😔
Voilà une belle Motobecane Z54C , beau travail et que du bonheur pour les ballades , vive la MOTOBECANE
Merci, Yves! 😉👌
Congratulation....you did the best choice... the car is great...in 300.000 km you will economy the money of the whole car, because you will run LPG.
### STOP PRESS! ### HAs anyone else noticed that the biofuel models have disappeared from he Dacia UK Website? Curious! Is it because there's little tax to be made by our life-sucking government? 🤔
Apparently Dacia have only temporarily stopped selling bi-fuel cars in the UK and its due to LPG supply issues which are currently affecting many areas of the country.
Back on sale now at a premium, no longer a free option
@@rob12841 yes, my friend I see that. My car is now nearly £2,000 more expensive. And it’s about £500 extra for the BiFuel.
I also really like my bi-fuel Duster. My only concern is the ongoing availability of lpg at a limited number of forecourts. With autogas often half the price of petrol maybe it really is too good to be true!!!
Hi, Ben! Like you, I became a wee tad paranoid when my local ASDA (Queensferry near Chester) ran out just a week before my Sister arrived and an unknowledgeable member of staff at the till stated that they weren't getting it back in. two weeks later, they're back up and running. Find out if there are any gas suppliers nearby. I have a large one and although it's only open office hours, it has a filling pump that I can use. It has a set rate of .90p a litre which is now £1 less per litre than petrol. Also, the ASDA is .727p litre. I fill up on about £35 and the car returns about 420 miles on that tank. I drive no faster then 60mph on the motorway (as more and more drivers are working out that they will get up to 60-100 miles more out of a tank if you're more frugal with your speed.) I just returned from driving my stepdaughter and her buddy while they completed the National 3 Peaks Challenge. I drove 950 miles over the weekend. Filled up three times with gas to spare.
I've had my bifuel Prestige Duster four weeks tomorrow and absolutely love it! I got the Slate Grey colour. It came with a tank of fuel and I filled it with LPG just to get used to using the LPG filler. Like you I'll be using LPG as my primary fuel. It's a great car!
Im waiting on my 1.3 prestige Arizona Orange arriving, ordered at end of January, hubby ordered 1l bi fuel in white...can I ask how you find both the keyless entry and the all new media infotainment systems?
@@lesleymcilroy7883 Brilliant...im sure youll be very happy! So far I have found the infotainment system very good. I have Android auto set up and have found it connects seamlessly every time and it being wireless is fantastic....no loose wires! If I have to nit pick it would be that the artist and song isn't displayed on the screen when playing the radio but that's minor. Keyless entry has been really good with no issues.
@@James-h3r8l..... Thanks James....thats great to know!... Currently drive a Stepway Laureate, and I adore it... Its been a great little car... Deals on the new Duster were too hard to resist though.... Regarding non display of artist on radio, I would have no issue there either, as I mostly listen to Audiobooks, Radio 4 or my own playlists.... I do like a "physical" key, and will miss that, but, hey ho!....
@@lesleymcilroy7883 Sorry, Lesley... I only just saw these comments! I like the keyless entry. I have mine set to honk twice like Ivor the Engine as I walk away and it unlocks as I approach the car. I like it. As for the infotainment? GREAT! I've the prestige so I get Apple Car Play wireless but I actually like the dedicated SatNav. I'm constantly playing my Apple Music playlists.
I'd add one thing about the LPG adapter, though. I had TERRRRRIBLE trouble uncoupling the gas nozzle from he adapter after filling and found the simple solution was to remove the tiny plastic QR Code sticker that was on the adapter. This was causing the nose bayonet to stick so as you tried to twist the nozzle off, the adapter twisted too. Problem solved. 👍😉
Just ordered mine today got 6 months to think about the 1.0 biofuel or the 1.3 130. How much petrol to you think you need in the tank to keep the lpg running mainly? It’s a awersome colour by the way
I’d you want more power, the 1.3 would be best, I guess. But I’d always recommend my 1.0tce bifuel as it costs me virtually £1 less per litre here in the UK. I’ve been using mine all the time, now, and doing all the family driving. Right now, we’re on a short family camping break. I’ve got a large Thule roof box filled and the boot is filled with camping kit and three adults and the car is doing 36mpg on LPG gas. I’ve still got the original petrol from when I bought it 9 weeks ago. The petrol only starts the car, so if you’ve left it overbought it might take a few miles to revert to LPG. If you’re in warm summer weather or just driven the car, it might swap to gas in seconds. So, maybe fill or half fill and then only occasionally top up some petrol. But filling my car on over £85 on petrol OR £35 on LPG for virtually the same MPG? It’s a no-brainer, my friend! I’d buy the Bi-Fuel model again and again!
@@eoincampbell-flyfishermana4737 that’s a great insight thanks for that
very good!
What a journey well done you
Thank you, my friend! I’ve actually advertised it on EBay as we type. I’ve no more time to finish, sadly and other commitments beckon 😔
