Meta’s reorientation and its decision in early January 2025 to stop fact-checking on its platforms, starting in the United States, has shocked many, especially as Elon Musk pushes X farther to the right.
While some have already left X for alternative platforms, the changes to Facebook and Instagram raise deeper questions about how we use social media and the public space these platforms provide.
