Oh, if my shells are still soaking in water, should they be completely dry before dipping in the acid? Will the water still on them and inside cause the acid to stop working as I dip?
The entire shell is made of calcium so it will fizz regardless of if there is build up or not.

We brought little plastic containers and bubbles wrap and used a carry on suitcase for our shells. Only lost one (a sand dollar). :)
All my shells I have found are huge bigger then yours and are perfectly white from the beach/ocean I have never had one with that black stuff on it hmm

Thank you so much for showing everyone what a live sand dollar looks like.! I didn’t know. People need to know to never take live creatures from the beach and to move them back in the water if the tide is out. And if in doubt, leave it.
