Remembering Dallas-Chapter 7: The Gospel that Jesus Preached
มุมมอง 897หลายเดือนก่อน
What is the Gospel that Jesus preached? In this chapter, John Ortberg, J.P. Moreland, Trevor Hudson, and Gary Moon delve into Dallas Willard's perspectives on this crucial question. They explore a shift from the conventional presentations of the gospel by Christians on both the right and left, toward a framing around the Kingdom of God.

Jane Willard, John Ortberg, Trevor Hudson, Gary Moon, and J.P. Moreland discuss the emphasis Dallas placed on our ideas of God and its associated thoughts and images. They also explore the concept of God holding both joy and sorrow simultaneously, and how we can join him in this understanding.

Remembering Dallas-Chapter 5: How Change Happens
Trevor always helping us to growth in Christ. I would like if somebody can tell me again the name of the person that he referred at the beginning on Celtic prayer. I heard David Evans, but I have managed to find anything. Thank you.
Such a needed topic of research and discussion. I find the issue itself on its face to be confounding. Should not the whole purpose and end for which the religion was established be the advancement of its followers in spiritual maturity, and the institutions and authority structures of the church be to allow those who are more mature to lead those who are less? If we need empirical research and "brute force" methods to even identify what is meant by spiritual maturity, does that mean the content of our religious education is empty? Those ideals of what makes one spiritually mature should be found in the religion itself. Indeed, they should be the first thing we think of when we ask why we do this.
I watched for a few moments and had a flashback of my doctoral and post doctoral days of hearing a lot about the theories of counseling from various experts but little on application of those theories when i was trying to assist an individual or couple in pain. The issues of ‘Theological Formation’ are similar to those needed by counselors like differentiation, of self. I rarely heard any mention of ‘outcomes from specific actions of a counselor so I had little specific knowledge about what to DO in a session. I see many clergy and counselors that are over educated and underprepared to do what Jesus described as the outcomes in the Great Commission. Many can debate the intricacies of their theoretical preferences but do not know how to pray for a sick child. (The Excluded Middle) A man licensed as an MFT came to my class on family dynamics and said for the first time he understood differentiation and enmeshment. He learned a term in grad school but could not help people break their patterns he learned to call, ‘An undifferentiated Ego Mass!’ Which names a theory but offers no practical help. A map is not the. Same as the geography. I suggest you develop a Sociological rest that asks a people who interact with a Christian to name their relational and ethical traits because our Christianity is worn on our sleeves.
Are there any notes from this presentation?
Jesus said he had been given all authority in the heavens and on the Earth. Then he told his followers to make apprentices of him and teach them how to do what he prescribed. Were all the first disciples the same? Did some have psychological profiles for which Jesus didn’t account? Did subsequent people who decided to follow Jesus have to drop out because what Jesus said was impossible for only some? It should be obvious that Jesus meant for us all to be a witness of what we have experienced of him and to enter through him into the Kingdom of God. What discipleship sometimes consists of is learning how to study the Bible, work in ministry, volunteer, and tithe. Simply following Dr Willard’s teachings about what Jesus message is, “a transformation into goodness “, it would produce a revolution.
I was a sem dropout in 1993. I self diagnosed that I was not mature enough to deal with the pressure cooker. My cohort went into ministry with courage, I often felt they had great hubris as well, like lambs being led to slaughter. Seems like our elders should be older, that our leaders are too young (immature). I know I was. Very interesting field of research. Virtue formation and desert spirituality is fascinating. Bless these people!
Brilliant integration of the depth and breadth of the Christian Tradition from a transforming teacher!
Kingdom of God at hand is AGAPE now in practice Kingdom of HEAVEN at hand Scientific Temper now Mutation in the attitude of believer
Could you introduce the speaker, please?
Trevor Hudson from South Africa
I need other apprentices like Brother Trevor to remind me that I am not alone. It’s a reminder that the father provided Elijah when he thought he was alone.
Thank you
My first thought was Dallas Willard, the most Christlike man I never met personally and have learned so much from all his lectures online. Then, my mind went to who Dallas was emulating, Jesus the Christ. It’s hard to think of Jesus as a person as I see Him as higher than a person. I have met Him on the personal level and whether thru the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, which it most likely once was or communion with the actual Christ, which I am certain once was, in the end, does it matter?
Based on my own studies, my neighbor may not be someone I am necessarily close to. It can be anyone I happen to encounter as the Samaritan man encountered the man having been beaten by thieves. Is an apprentice of Jesus, I have also tried to extend to anyone what Jesus said in Matthew regarding treating others as I would want to be treated. Certainly, our family or close acquaintances are our closet neighbors, but I am having to think through self-limiting love as a way of living in the Kingdom. In the Divine Conspiracy Dr. Willard used an analogy of a surgeon not going the second mile because she/he was on their way to perform a procedure. Is this an example of self-limiting love? I am not sure.
Thank you for posting another message from a true hero of the faith.
Thank you for sharing! It is such a gift to have the technology to hear and see Dallas teach even as he is now with our Lord.
This man. This gift. I thank You Father for Your faithful ones. Please join me brothers and sisters in asking for more brave, submitted men ready to speak and act according to Your goodness and their calling. Women too, of course.
Dallas’ tender heart of love is evident and attractive here. But then that is so with all his messages. A precious man and example for us still. 💘
Thank you for posting these! I've been wanting to hear these messages for a long time. What a blessing.
I've listened to this video at least a dozen times. Based on my studies of Dr. Willard's writings and the Bible, I came to see the good news as described here. That a teacher from Dallas Seminary is interviewed is very personal since I had teachers from that school who influenced me as a young man. Americans are walking away from religion. As Dr. Willard wrote that he hoped to give Jesus a fresh hearing, I do as well ask the Father for the same. Thank you. This is truly the good news or good tidings for all.
Will not listen to this falseness!
What is your basis of this claim?
Good work all, and 👉beautiful artistry👈 in the closing summary with kind words of affirmation and appreciation and acknowledgement... proclaiming, manifesting, and teaching about deliverance and eternal living now. (So, go and sin no more). There will be days like this, but always rejoicing. I've got a lot of work to do. Grace and blessings, and much love. • Thank you • all, and keep up your excellent work and powerful teaching 🎉
Surprised he didn't start pout with the idea of being reborn and supernaturally renewed as in Ezekiel, 36:26-27, Jn 3:3, 1 Peter 1:3 etc., apart from that all the "training" in the world WILL NOT CHANGE YOU. you must be born-again and then "spiritual training" will result in Spiritual fruit instead of merely human religion.
Does anyone know the title of the booklet from Clavin Dallas is presenting in the beginning of this video?
I believe it’s called “The Golden Booklet of the True Christian Life.”
This was a very nice presentation. I wasn't sure about the terms "spiritual formation" and such. So I did some research. Quite interesting as there is controversy (what's new) and misunderstanding about "spiritual disciplines." I discovered Dallas Williard and was pleasantly surprise. I had pushed back in previous content about suffering and being poor. Here's a great video by Brother Williard that unpacks asceticism and what have historically been called "the disciplines." Turns out I was right.....lol....lol. Anyway...might be helpful, Here you go: th-cam.com/video/fmuJridpclA/w-d-xo.html
Love hearing Dallas’s story from those who knew him. Thank you for these beautiful videos.
What would the world look like if Christian’s decided to be disciples??????
Loving these videos! Such great reminders.
The historical significance and psychological implications of the spiritual disciplines as rooted in the Christian church have been part of the history of the church for 2000 years. Dallas Willard and Richard Foster have only made the treasures of the Catholic Church (Read St. Augustine, St. Francis, St. Ignatius, St. Teresa LaSiux, Brother Lawrence, etc.) available to the Protestant Church.
Thank you for the upload, is so helpful and edifying. To soak into God's Word, mour minds and life will definitely be renewed
This is so touching. I did not know his mother died when he was a child.
Wonderful work team. Thank you!
Thank you for the series
Thank you! I hate to say this but the background music wasn't in the background at all. Especially the words of the quiet speakers were lost in the music. It is more distracting than enhancing the spoken message. Such a pity...
Thanks for the note! We'll get that fixed in the next chapter.
Thank you for this series ❤
I'm thankful for discovering his videos. Is there an recommended order to follow for someone not accustomed to deep teachings. Where do I start, mind or soul or whatever?
The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him Proverbs 18:17 Careful not to take the secular media of 60 minutes (Australia) as unbiased and factual Deeper investigation are needed and finding how Hillsong has itself responded. Truth is often somewhere else
How favored we are to have these solid messages from such a blessed teacher. Thank You Lord! And thanks to all who are posting the videos.
Wonderful msg. Is a slowly building up of habits to obedience to Holy Spirit and discipline.
Although we receive a new heart, the sanctification process is a lifelong work. The way I understand it is that discipleship is about learning how to live afresh now that we have new desires and wants which requires changing our former habits and motivations which, to my mind, Willard describes beautifully as a renovation of the heart.
Thank you so much as it is so informative and edifying on Biblical counselling
When was this produced?
2005
One thing I have learned about Dallas Willard; well, two things: (1) His thoughts form a coherent, beautiful whole in service to God and so (2) He is a great spiritual teacher!
How about this?
Magnificent. Extremely helpful. Educators take note! There's more wisdom here for the education profession than many complete graduate school experiences. No hyperbole.
Abide in the vine. Your heavenly father is the vine dresser! Jesus Jesus Jesus, the life giver!
There is no one I've heard who so clearly explains the sermon on the mount and the kingdom of God, and what those mean for us as disciples of Jesus. THANK YOU, Lord, for Dallas and whoever is uploading these beautiful videos that enable us to learn Jesus' ways and become more like him.
Gostaria de ouvir em portugues
Thanks for posting this
At last! This makes salvation through Christ understandable and wonderful l
You can hear a pin drop in this room. No one wanted to miss even the sound of inhaled breath. The wisdom and power to change a life is abundant under Professor Willard’s words and countenance. I come back to his rich teachings like a weary traveler in need of nourishment and I leave stronger every time.
Such excellent teaching. So much wisdom .
