for the history blog - star date 2025 hero quest & second 40k ed - are the seconded most common box-set to find on the second hand market back in the day - so i think Spain was the second most market saturation - i think OZ collectors of GM product , had a harder time to pick up stuff in the 80/90 than the Spanish collectors
i have multiple, space crusade, dungeon q and 2 ed 40k, rule books in Spanish ??? why , i live in England - why so much Spanish, on second hand market ? were we shipping it all back over ? flee markets would have three to one spanish Vs english
I NEED 💯Jaffa cake's with Warhammer minis inside 🤗🤞
Great interview - although I was initially confused and alarmed about what a 'slaughter base' could be!
I just got my hands on the metal 40k daemon prince. It's still the best DP sculpt released by GW.
I recently picked this up from Oxfam. I’m pretty sure I had it when it was first released, I remember going to an event day at Games Workshop and winning a poster of Karandras for knowing how many pages the Codex had.
War wagons are not actually that fantastical. They were a huge part of the Hussite wars
Thanks, guys. Great video. I have kept all of my codexes/army books, mainly for all the lore. I collected all of the books, even for armies i didn't collect, as I wanted to know how to defeat them.
Great conversation
Re: Banshees, don’t recall if it was present in the fluff in 2nd, or if it’s something that was added in a later edition, but one thing I find interesting is that male Eldar can actually become Banshees, but to do so they adopt a female identity, which implies that all Eldar might actually be gender fluid or some other similar non-binary gender identity to some degree (don’t recall the exact wording, but fairly sure the wording suggests they genuinely do identify as female while walking the Path of the Banshee and it’s just not them crossdressing).
That’s very interesting, I might try and find more on that
@@JordanSorceryPodsI think that was in the lore at the time or maybe added in the 3rd Ed codex. The same thought crossed my mind while watching and early third is where my Eldar lore knowledge ends. I don’t remember them specifying if it worked the other way or if any of the other aspects had a gender associated with them to begin with.
I think the Fall of the Eldar due to decadence probably owes more to Moorcock than Tolkien, especially with the Chaos connection; unless I’m mistaken, decadence leading to downfall is something that happens in the Elric books, whereas the sin that dooms Tolkien’s elves over and over is hubris (which admittedly is something the post-Fall Eldar have in spades).
Very good point
Possibly an unpopular opinion, but personally I’m not that big a fan of Blanche’s work (or more specifically his signature Blanchitsu style); think Gibson and Goodwin blow him out of the water when it comes to doing art for codices and army books. Where I think Blanche shines is more in background books; eg in Liber Chaotica his art fits the role of that of someone being driven insane by Chaos and I can easily believe his work as being in-universe. But other than that, it just doesn’t click for me for some reason most of the time. 🤷🏻♂️
I can totally see what you mean. My own journey with Blanche’s work has been a long one as I didn’t love it nearly as much when I first started in the hobby. It became something quite special to me over time though!
I knew it couldn't just be me! Agreed, I can appreciate Blanche artwork in the context of visions of Chaos, but Mark Gibbons' work will always be the better medium, especially for the clean lines of the Eldar/Aeldari
It's the difference between illustrators and artists (in the art on display sense). Blanche paints emotive atmospheric works and treats 40k like other artists treat the real world Everyone else that produced work for GW were illustrating specific models so were very precise.
Do Eldar bakers have specialist schools for different types of pastries?
There are no Eldar bakers, their dough tends to... Fall 😞
Perhaps the guardians don't have boobplate because only eldar with larger cup sizes find themselves being called to the banshee path
Excellent video. The artwork on the cover has a very special place in my heart, as it was also the cover of my first White Dwarf, 171.
Dude, you're spoiling us, the recent videos are amazing !
I remember Confrontation from White Dwarf, the articles were being published around the time the Hero Quest and Space Crusade articles were in it which I was buying the magazine for those at the time and thinking that while the background for Confrontation was cool, those rules were just unplayable for a 9-10 year old like I was at the time!
What a great guest, with some fascinating and informative experiences!
Yeah that was a particularly good one! What a lovely fella….
Thanks for another great interview. Squeak-squeak! 🤩🐀🌠
I've never heard snotling chariot and elegance in a sentence
Finally catching up on these. I never get tired of you and Rick talking, Jordan, awesome stuff!
awww man, how i wish we got more of these capsuel games! It feels like thats what kill team / warcry and underworlds really could be nowadays!
Peachy is a hobby hero. Great to see his TH-cam channel growing
Oh I can't believe I missed this I still have the number four book in the sorcery series, the crown of Kings
Brilliant book. Brilliant review. I must have read every page multiple times over back in the day. I was lucky enough that my dad bought me a 2 blisters of Reiksguard Foot Knights and this Army Book when I was 11 after I went to a store with a mate and played an intro game of WFB. The rest is history. Still hobbying over 30 years later (other than the typical hobby hiatus when when girls and work etc become way more important).
Such a great army book! I have really fond memories of looking through my dad's Empire, Undead and Orcs & Goblins books from 4th ed. My time wouldn't come until 6th ed.
The 4th edition Empire armies book was the 1st armies book I got :) great art in it, and some fun fantasy fiction as well! However, it wasn't really an easy army to win games with even for all of its diversity. Like, unit champions for Ogres, Dwarves and Halflings could only use the human Champion Stat-line in rules-as-written, or had to come from your allies alotment if they had to be actual Ogres, Dwarves or Halflings. Then there's the glaring oversight that infantry regiments couldn't have magic banners like practically ALL other armies at the time. Their core troops had nothing special, aside from a slight possibility of spreading out an Infantry Hero's leadership influence (detachment rule). Basically fielding a lore-accurate human-centric Empire army in tournament-rules (RAW) was "throwing" a game (you'd lose before turn 3). 6th edition, despite trimming down the roster, greatly improved on the capability of the Empire army with the expansion of the Detachment Rule (counter charge/flanking fire), offering at least 1 option for a magical upgrade to core human infantry (magic banner if general=elector count) an extra magic defence character (warrior priest) and finally a scout/vanguard unit option (huntsmen).
This video is being criminally slept on by the algorithm! This should have 600k views by now not 600. I have the Tolkien Bestiary and the Blanche Rise of Grimdark book, both of which are fantastic. I have done the max pledge for the Morderin kickstarter for the blanche inspired miniatures and have pre ordered the new army painter Blanche inspired paint sets, it's going to be fantastic getting to paint those miniatures with his favourite chosen colours! Love you Jordan, you have created history with every interview!
The interview was originally uploaded to my main channel and it did have more views there, but I’d be very happy indeed to see it get more here too!
Must be kismet that I just discovered Gaslands over Christmas and here you are with this awesome interview!
I really liked that book, even as I read it at a very young age. To me, world building is fundamental to "justify" something to do with it - especially playing battles. I remember a very old 40k related book about space orks that had a paragraph about their music. Amazing!
Fantastic interview.
Another cracking interview Jordan!
What a fantastic interview! Mike is a huge inspiration and it was an absolute delight to get more perspective on his process. Long live the long form interviews!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
I haven't even listened to the interview and I'm already 200% in on Space Gits.
Right?!
Really enjoyed that, Mike was extremely interesting, another great interview for the catalog.
Cheers Stu!
Great interview - something which should be very niche but was absolutely fascinating.
Superb interview!
This is my favourite interview so far Jordan, I loved hearing John's story and the logistical information on all the models he created that I've built so many of. I noticed some milling tool marks on the underside of a '90s round slottabase the other day and watching this made me wonder if he put them there.
I've known Juan for many years, and it's good to see him getting his due. My time working with him was great fun, and it was always a pleasure to get photos of his work in progress each week. I'm not sure he ever knew but whenever his parcels of Greens arrived from Spain I used to have a massive crowd of people waiting to see what he had sent us !
Who are these sexy people?
Christ on a bike turn the gain on your mic down Jord. Every 'mmh' between Rick talking is a battering ram in both ears.
Sorry to hear that! I try to normalise the sound levels and it sounds fine on all of the set-ups I am able to check it on. So I can try to improve this in the future, would you be able to share details on how you're watching/listening? (e.g. desktop, phone, with headphones, etc.)
Great new direction on this format, keep up the good work….
On Bryan Ansell's involvement we know that Ansell was inspired by the ork books to do more army books...and had a lear idea that you should open the books and it should expose you to a whole world....I wonder if his contribution was that there is Ansell guidance as to how the army books as a concept should work., what they were for.
At the end of this Interview he describes the vision for what would become army books/ codexes realmofchaos80s.blogspot.com/2015/01/return-of-mighty-avenger-second.html?m=1
Indeed, though based on some recent conversations it seems that on this occasion it may have been more of a contractual obligation!
4th ed. Empire is peak Empire in my book.
It's a real high point, that's for certain!
That plastic talisman dragon with clear wings is a real stunner!
It’s so great isn’t it!
why so few views...?
Towards the end of last year I made the decision to move all of my interviews and podcast views from my main channel, @JordanSorcery, over to this channel. The reason being that the long-form conversational content could all sit together without affecting the performance of my shorter documentary content. That just meant that some interviews now appear to have basically no views, but hopefully in time this will correct itself!
@@JordanSorceryPods thanks, makes sense!
Amazing as always Jordan, this is really a piece of history - back when the company was run by passionate enthusiasts
It will be no consolation to John, but receiving EPIC Space Marine made for one of my best ever Christmas holidays. Thanks Jordan, very interesting interview
A really odd thing happened to my copy of this army book....it disappeared! Long story!
The Space game sounds like Full Thrust I wonder if he got involved in that after he left GW
