Every year, a human powered aircraft competition is held over a lake in Japan. This is the 1998 edition, the first time the lake was crossed with a flight of over 20 km.
Bionic Bat human powered aircraft (MacCready)

Two videos from the Caltech archives. The Bionic Bat, also called the Gossamer Swift, was built by a team around Paul MacCready. It participated in the third Kremer Prize competition, setting the second and fourth world records in that competition.

A very bad quality version of this 1978 documentary. The Gossamer Condor won the first Kremer Prize in 1977, and is often regarded as the first really succesfull human powered aircraft. There are better quality videos on youtube, but the sound and color of these are messed up, so I figured I should upload this. I do not own any rights to this documentary.

First indoor session, 20/07/2020. I didn't get it flying as well as I hoped, but if I can, it will be a really good flyer. I used a slightly shorter loop than the first session.

This is a free flight kit, built from scratch using a plan found online. I had problems with launching it, mainly because of the low wings and the landing gear, which forced me to grab it behind the wings - making it go up while launching. I hope I get it flying higher soon!

Thank you! There is some new stuff on the way, but university is keeping me busy. This summer I should be able to post one or two more videos.

Do you still have the original kit? I can imagine that's quite rare. Don't forget to use your own wood and a better propeller! Good luck
@@toonverbruggen7351 yes. Original box and wood but the rubber is long gone and I threw away the propellor as soon as I saw it.
@@MouseSquadron well done haha, pure garbage as far as I know. The wood is quite heavy as well, I have seen 40 gram (or even more) models, mine is 25 g or so. Great beginner kits though.

I will. Test flights and trimming will probably take place in the summer holidays, and if it flies better than a brick I will enter it in glider scale at the International Indoor Fly In in november.
Beautifully built plane; inspires me to build a Cosmic Wind too (I like their looks). Keep going in the careful persistent way you are- it'll be a great flyer!

Effe technisch: het knetteren gebeurt wanneer je na hoge RPM de gaspedaal loslaat. Ik zie dat nog niet al te snel gebeuren bij een vliegtuig. Niet dus.
