Happy New Year rip, in the dark taking advantage of mild weather.
Just out taking advantage of mild weather. An hour or so before midnight on new years eve. Almost dumped the Talaria MX5 a couple times, it still was fun. I'm using a Oxbow helmet light in combination with my stock headlight. I have it mounted on my chin. That's the cord dangling in front of the camera; the helmet lights power cord.

Unsurprisingly, we got a whole dump of snow. Around my house, about 12km from this hunting area: there's less than a foot of snow. Up at the hunting grounds: 2ft in some places. I didn't feel the depth of the snow till I got next to the highway, and I saw it was coming over my rad. Then, as I navigated the deep wet ruts, I could feel my lack of traction and the resistance of plowing snow and mu...

There was a guy who commented something to the like of "point your camera higher, it's a nice bike, but the video is unwatchable". I forgot I uploaded that one just to watch it on the big screen. Anyway, the point is to bring family and friends along for a ride. Also, to enjoy these moments sometime in the future. We don't get much time, might as well make the best of the days you got.

Riding today was much easier than yesterday. Yesterday I was Bambi walking on ice. Today I had much more confidence. I can't wait to order some intermediate tires and studs. The YZ doesn't like starting in the cold, so I have to keep that in mind. Riding in the snow is soooo difficult. I love it. It's a battle of balance, weight transfer, throttle and clutch control. It was an awesome challenge...

This is my first time riding in the snow, at least as an adult. I've done it with my 1985 Yamaha IT200 back when I was a teenager. As a teen, sometimes I could keep the bike upright long enough to actually have fun. Now, 28 years later, I can actually ride in what I thought wasn't possible. I definitely want to get studded tires. I thought I would have more traction haha! I am amazed how well t...

Today, we repeat the ride from yesterday. Instead of the YZ450FX, we use the Can Am1000XMR. I make a Wayne's World reference, and we set corn and grain onto pumpkin halves. The weather is the opposite of yesterday, heavy wind, rain. Riding the mud quad up to this area is like cheating compared to using dirtbikes. Hopefully the snow stays away a bit longer so I can officially use a dirtbike to h...

Is it worth buying? Im 13 years old
@Tarnished.warrior127 the studs are definitely worth it. The tricky part was deciding what size of studs go with which tire. After the ride today I decided that I want more studs. They're 120 a box of 150, I already used 2 boxes. So that will be almost 400 bucks in studs. That may not be worth it, but then again I just had to try.
Good fishing!
@cesaravian it was soooo cold haha but worth it.
is there still battery rattle in mx5 ?
@@donkublon9626 I have zero battery rattle. I've ridden it hard and dumped it twice. Still runs perfectly, no rattles.
@@mattfeshman yeah seems like they fix rattle in mx5
battery let me down so much personally.. wish i went with the ultra bee 😢
@HIGHJEFFREY it let you down as in malfunctioning or it's too weak? It seems to do well enough for my 240lb self ripping as hard as I can. Only issue was error 33 when I had it wide open with 50% battery
How much range do you get out of it?
@john.xia2009 I did 25km with 50% battery this morning. I had regen turned off and rode rocky hills and alot of slow sections. I've never done a range test. I can say that riding in sand is the worst for it, my battery drains fast.
Going on Sunday I'm pumped!!! Was working on main street doing a driveway went and checked out the river saw a nice Chinook! The fisherman there are saying the steelheads are there with the salmon too! Hoping for TIGHT LINES!!!
That's awesome! I haven't been out there in a while. I hear lots of mud sharks around but to hear the steelhead are around makes me want to go now. Good luck!
Great video, I’ve been thinking of how I can make my 2025 WR450F more beginner friendly. The throttle is so sensitive and snappy, RPM ramps up stupidly fast. How big of a difference did this make for you?
@storytime7982 The throttle tamer worked excellent! In tight areas, it made a night and day difference. Also it I had way less fatigue in my forearms while riding. My only issue is that it's a bit too tame. After a conversation with Adam at G2ergo, I decided on a build your own option throttle cam set. I am looking for something less snappy than stock and more aggressive than tame. I'll make a video when I receive it.
@@mattfeshmangreat feedback thank you, do a bit of a install video too with a before and after? Cheers looking forward to the next one

Cool
Don’t you think you’re kinda using real big rigs to catch these trout like the reels caught a huge man look like ocean reels to me I like the 4000 spinning myself
Yeah I am using pretty heavy gear to catch these guys, but it seems to work well and I use the same set ups for all species when trolling. We get really big Chinook salmon here and you gotta make sure you are ready because those guys fight hard.
Oh, those are spotted trout. I was talking about rainbows rainbow trout but anyhow, those are nice looking fish. You must be in the house right oh sure where you’re fishing at but like hell dude wish I was there, but I’m always in Carmel by the Sea in California, so I’m a little bit far away.
Oh, that still reminds me back in the mid 80s when I moved to Florence Oregon population 5000 and I fished off the silos saw river and all the creeks out there and the ponds that you don’t know about we didn’t have cell phones so we didn’t have you know, Google maps and man They had trout so fast they plan them in there but you don’t after about six months of eating the normal bugs and stuff they meet turns red like Sam and just about the boy they came out some big ones like the biggest one I caught was like I forgot 8 to 10 pounds. I can’t remember exactly but it was huge. Yeah I know that’s like them, that’s cool dude size I like those ones but I don’t waste my time for small trout has to be at least a five pounder
Thanks for sharing the story, I love hearing about the 80s, that was when I was a kid. I miss the old days.
You've been killing it bro. Every video is better and better. I love the island, it's so peaceful.
Thanks for the compliment! I appreciate it. And yes there's no where else I'd rather be than at home on the island.
Awesome, congrats! You slayed it!
Thank you my friend, I got another video to upload. Clearer video and explaining my set up.
Cool happy fishing😀✌🏽😎
When I was out for the weekend found the trout and salmon didn't bite as much with North and West winds in this location. Caught a lot of big smallie's when the wind came from the northwest, Caught a bow on the good old pink worm jigging it fast.
Yeah I gave up on trying to get them there. Last cold water fish I caught there was from the big dock. I'm hoping to nab a big pike before it gets too warm at that location.
@@mattfeshman Someone caught like a 36 inch pike out of there on the first sunday of may.

Great video from Sudbury, I'll be coming over to the island with my dad for his birthday on the last weekend of April and as I still need to catch my first wild rainbow I've been doing my research. We tried last year in kagawong as we have a camp out there but came to late in the year and caught a lot of big smallie's. Hoping for tight lines and hope to see more videos in the future!!! Going to try and hit all the spots on the road we can coming in!! P.S I love feeding my family too as a fisherman that lived on lake Nipissing! +1 Sub
Thanks for the compliment. At the moment it seems only the south side of the island has active fish. However swift current and goat Island channels produce fish all year. Kagawong isn't quite active yet, I was there 3 times already but it won't be long. I wish you success. I haven't been that active with videos lately because of the weird winter weather and being busy at work. I will be getting at it again very soon.
@@mattfeshman Have you tried going out at all yet was wondering if the run started or passed yet. And I was wondering if this spot is public, as I'm not local and don't want to step on anyone's toe's. Nvm there biting good at kagawong.
@nossling8898 yeah there's lots of fish in kagawong but also a ton of people. I counted 20 730am yesterday morning. The video location is public but once person sets up people who claim to own the place always take issue. Far as I know it's public road, and shoreline isn't private. The water has warmed up too quickly and low water levels have made trout fishing difficult for me. The bass and pike are already up intermixed with the trout.
@@mattfeshman Me and my father where there that morning we where the first in the water at 6am we lost a nice Atlantic salmon 7+ pounds, To be honest it was the worst fishing day due to the WNW wind. We came down on the 25th and left on the 28th caught 5 rainbows, 3 Atlantic salmon and 3 4+ pounds Smallie's. Was a great time meeting the fisherman-women and the locals I even met a local that will be taking me out for kings this fall!
@nossling8898 really awesome to hear! Sounds like a good time.
Good day sir I just found your channel by searching for good spots for rainbow trout and voila lol..love your videos so far. Hi from garson 😎🤘
I haven't been that active with videos lately. Weird winter weather kept me from being on the ice as much as I wanted. I can offer you a few location tips if you need them. Thanks for the compliment.

@mattfeshman you're advised would definitely be appreciated..we are thinking of going to the island next week..
@@realmetis8002 looking for rainbow?

Love the Canadians
What can you expect to catch doing this? How long do you leave it under the ice?
There are rainbow trout, lake trout, Northern Pike, whitefish and walleye in this area. I prefer to check my net daily and reset it. That way the fish are still very fresh and I can bleed them out. Most people let their nets soak for 3 days and check.
@@mattfeshman Interesting What area are you allowed to do this in? Are you part of first nations/tribal waters?
@@mattfeshman very interesting
@theobirkholz I am doing this in my home territory. This is part of the north channel of Lake Huron. Legally speaking my community has a communal commercial fishing license. Ethically we have been doing this for hundreds of years and likely would continue despite jurisdiction. This is part of our history and way of life. Our harvest is a ritual performed with the utmost respect for the resource.
@@mattfeshmanCool that is awesome
Hey Matt, we're you in Michael's Bay?
Good eye! Yes I was.
@@mattfeshmannice! I'm down to go there someday and try some luck
@cesaravian definitely one of my favorite spots to fish. Early spring is great for rainbow/steelhead and the odd chrome brown trout. Then the sanctuary status kicks in for a bit and fishing is regulated to the rock at the mouth and down. Late June there are giant carp that hang around there. Then in late September the Kings start coming up stream along with a few steelhead and coho. Then it's full steelhead season late November till freeze up. Truly a wonderful place. It's no wonder my people and ancestors have had fishing camps there.
Liked and subscribed, keep ‘em coming. I post videos of my XT but looking at XMRs
Haven't been able to do any riding lately but I definitely will be posting soon. Definitely need some throttle therapy. I chose XMR over the other models just for the simple fact it can get deeper into the bush for hunting season. What I didn't realize is how much I would love mud riding and water wheelies. I've even taken it deep off a shoreline and caught smallmouth bass from it haha!
@@mattfeshman now that sounds like a good video to make ! I wish I would’ve gotten an XMR
@zacfree5 you can still build one. If you change out your clutching, add a radiator relocate and snorkel kit. You can even add different portals to change gear ratio for mud. It seems pretty straightforward to do those mods yourself, but I bet they wouldn't be an unreasonable price to be done at a shop.
@@mattfeshman mine is a 2013 and I think around 2000 miles, I’ve thought about doing a makeshift snorkel with some PVC pipe🤷🏼♂️ what’s it gonna hurt

Brilliant mate 😊😵
Thank you.
Sent these rivers still sanctuary in mid April?? 🤔
The entire Island is Anishinabe territory. I, just like my uncle and grandfathers fish when it's time to fish. Our harvest is ethical and a spiritual event. What's difficult is how many people have issue with our traditional ways and yet so many strangers, visitors and tourists absolutely disrespect the resources and no one bats an eye. There are clear examples here on TH-cam.
I mean, you’re not wrong about the tourists abusing resources. Half of them act like animals.
What kind of socks are those dude?
Those are Champion socks that came in a bag of 8 pair that my mom gave me for Christmas. If I was to rate them, I'd give them high marks for durability.
@@mattfeshmanthey look pretty sweet and comfortable. I’m a get me some. 😊

"Go fast, don't die" is a motto I like for rippin'. Balls or foolishness, both traits are identical.
Already have a major lack of snow. I'm sure the sliders are just super impressed with you.
I can't tell what you are trying to say. Snow fall here varies on the year. What is your idea of a Slider and of what relevance is it that a slider be impressed or not impressed with me?
@@mattfeshman It was supposed to say sledder. I'm in Canada, a ride, quads, and sleds, and when winter shows up sledders that ride the trails really hate it when quads put a pile of ruts in the trails at that time of year that's all.
@MrCoda47 haha thanks for the context. For the most part I avoid snowmachine trails and even roads. In the old days we had respect around where I live. We rode ditches and avoided anything that would garner attention. Nowadays the kids ride up and down the roads at wide open throttle with aftermarket pipes and absolutely disrespect groomed trails and private property. There is private property along where I ride in the video but I make sure I am far enough from the shore to have a leg to stand on when the cops get called.

Thanks! This is a creek with many names, it's just a small tributary off of Lake Huron's north channel. I think some call it perch creek most of the time. I've been coming to this spot since I was a kid. It's truly a beautiful resource.
@@mattfeshman thanks for the response, I guess that would be on the north side of the island. Do you ever get salmon in the fall there too?
@moisttowel2838 I never have checked for salmon, I bet there would be a few coho kicking around. That creek is probably dry by now but there might be enough of a trickle to attract a few salmon. And yes this is the north side of M'Chigeeng. The water temps are still kind of high, so I won't check for salmon for a week or two. I'll make a video if I do find them.
